With the football season coming to a close in a months time, some here will turn their attention to the smell of freshly mown grass and long days sat in the hot sunny weather watching the great game of cricket.

As a member of Kent Cricket Club, I got to enjoy my first match of the season against Somerset at Canterbury over the last few days. Unfortunately, as is always the way starting the season this early, the first day was lost to rain. In fact nearly all the games were affected by rain, some without a ball even being bowled.

But I did manage to get to see 2 centurions at Canterbury yesterday and a very enjoyable day of cricket (even if I did get sun burned head - Yes I know should have taken a cap).

Did anyone else get to see cricket over the last few days? I know we have several Middlesex supporters who no doubt enjoyed the 'runfest' at Lords (over 1300 runs I believe)

Hope the Manchester weather holds up!

It would be good to go to the Oval with the series wrapped up.

Ashamed to say I was slagging Stokes off earlier In this thread (bad mood, miserable git) whatever.

My bad, humbled and a wee bit embarrassed to be honest.

Ted - it’s all relative.

You can seek some solace in the fact that India are being much more embarrassed and humbled currently.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

Nah, Ted, it's an excellent use of reverse psychology as every cricket fan knows. Top work!

Another 5 day test match, great stuff for the game and spectators.

All the players seem to be invested and most are enjoying it too, cricket wins all round for once.

I bet Pant comes out to bat today, even if he misses the next test.

I am sure Pant will come out to bat...the only thing stopping that will be if we don't take enough wickets!

You can really see why they are so invested in Bashir, watching Dawson. It's like going back to the 90s and Peter Such and that era when our "spinners" never actually spun the ball. County trundler rubbish, and a bad drop too. Not sure I appreciated Swann enough when we had him!

Ahmed just took 13 wickets and scored a century albeit in Div 2.

Surely they must consider him for the Oval and the Ashes. Australian pitches suit leggies.

Yeah I like Rehan and by all accounts his younger brother is even better. Hopefully our spin twins of the future.

As did the seemingly forgotten about Tom Hartley for Lancashire in Div 1.
11 wickets and 130 with the bat.

I like Hartley, but as with Dawson, I can't see us taking left-arm spinners to Australia as they never work out there. Some Aussie bloke from a 100 years ago still holds the TOTAL test wickets record for a left-arm spinner in Australia, with 74 wickets! Inexplicable.

Just wonder what others thought about the last hourgate, at Manchester yesterday?

As I posted think Stokes is a legend for us, but was a little disappointed with the shenanigans from us with India wanting to stay on

No issue with the asides, given to the Indian team that is part and parcel... but Stokes, for want of a better word, petulance, seemed a little uncalled for.

Apart from the obvious milestones for the batters, and Washington's first century for his country, keeping us on the field, with the next game in 3 days, made a lot of sense

India need to win that to draw, so any advantage, as in tired bowlers at the Oval, makes perfect sense, I would have stayed on as well, and for longer

Since the "time delaying" episode, seems this series as got a bit spicy

Just wonder what others felt

Was it really in the spirit of the game keeping us out there seeing as Gil is all about the spirit of the game .

Bigger picture is we don't have a chance in Aus with this bowling attack

Agree, I love Stokes but I think he got this wrong. Why should India not take the chance to knacker us out and get centuries with the series still on the line? If the series was done I would have understood, but not in this instance.

We are in danger of becoming a bit like Australia pre sandpaper - ie saying there is a line that is not crossed in the spirit of cricket, but then we decide what that line is.

If we are prepared to bend the rules like Crawley did, then we can hardly get the arse when India decide to (perfectly legally) play on.

it was totally pathetic

ben stokes dedicated his century to his late father

washington sundar by all accounts is a nice kid- kohli, siraj etc could be prickly but that is a nice kid who doesnt bother anyone

hes been stranded in the 90s and 80s before.

he came into a dire situation. if he got out even at 50, india probably wouldve lost. he saved a match for his country. its the first century he's ever scored. he couldve easily wanted to score that century for a family member, someone else, etc

for the england players to bully him as he walked off the pitch says a lot about them. folks like duckett and crawley have about one brain cell between them and are followers, but stokes is clearly better than that

if johnny bairstow was on 93 not out, is england taking the draw? when england were battering the life out of teams like ireland, did they declare before milestones were hit?

Feels like the usual media making a mountain out of a molehill, because there was nothing else interesting to report.

Get on with it, get to the Oval and make sure you win the series.

Poll: How old is everyone on here?

media is hardly saying anything about it

if shoe was on the other foot and india or australia behaved like this to england, lets be honest- this would be another spirit of cricket brouhaha

Would have been good fun to stack the XI with county championship batters like Rew and Sibley, foregoing any bowling attack, and challenge a Bumrah-less India to take 20 at the Oval, playing for a very dull draw and a series win
