With the football season coming to a close in a months time, some here will turn their attention to the smell of freshly mown grass and long days sat in the hot sunny weather watching the great game of cricket.

As a member of Kent Cricket Club, I got to enjoy my first match of the season against Somerset at Canterbury over the last few days. Unfortunately, as is always the way starting the season this early, the first day was lost to rain. In fact nearly all the games were affected by rain, some without a ball even being bowled.

But I did manage to get to see 2 centurions at Canterbury yesterday and a very enjoyable day of cricket (even if I did get sun burned head - Yes I know should have taken a cap).

Did anyone else get to see cricket over the last few days? I know we have several Middlesex supporters who no doubt enjoyed the 'runfest' at Lords (over 1300 runs I believe)

Best bet now is not to bowl them out, hope they bat on far too long, then hope the weather forecast, which is a little bit dodgy, gets even worse. Wheels are off!

Pope as captain? I mean, who makes these decisions.

He’s as much a captain as I am an astronaut. Your VC can’t be someone who is battling to keep their place every game they play

He's not a good captain. Doesn't even feel or look like a captain.

Ah well, I think looking back 2-2 will possibly flatter us a little bit. Disappointing to lose Crawley, but with only 10 very tough ask anyway.

When the camera pans to him on the field you can see he isn’t sure what to do.

Heading down there tomorrow, fancy India to win it by about 125 runs, just after tea.

England won’t be daunted by the runs, but we just don’t have the patience to eek out the win. I’d love to be proved wrong. for me, Brook is infuriating. I know he is rated as one of the top test players. So much skill and potential, he gets out in such silly ways.

A disappointing way to end the day.I stuck to my old Guinness shirt and had a few U R’s from about 6 or 7 R’s fans. The atmosphere in the last hour was crazy with the beer snakes breaking out all over the place, and the stewards doing their best to capture them.

Funny that I was sat next to a couple of Brentford fans who had been Arsenal fans for 30 years until Brentford got promoted. They said how a lot of their friends use their season tickets just to watch a premier league game while they’re in the country as they couldn’t get a ticket anywhere else.

I honestly don’t think we’ve got the patience to be able to score 320 odd more runs, and I expect we’ll lose by about 4pm tomorrow afternoon.I wish I could see a more favourable outcome, but we’ve all seen this story so many times before.

A pretty even morning just losing 2 wickets and Brooks getting a life

Brook this could be pivotal for him. A lovely player with all the shots... but to become a great player he needs to start producing innings that wins games...

First hour is going to be interesting

I bet the Indians are probably regretting pissing Root off in the first innings right now…

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

Winviz has England as favourites now. Might have gone early on that…2 more wickets and it’s a very different matter but looking like another good chase in the offing.

I know it's an obvious thing to say, however, I think this would've been a very different test had Bumrah been available. But this is a great show from England, and hopefully Root is suitably annoyed by Warner's comments as well

Long way to go yet. Keep ticking 'em off.

I would argue Stokes' loss is more significant than Bumrah. Captain, best bowler, one of the best bats and best fielder...all in one go

Do feel for Siraj, really like him as a bowler. Always want all quicks to be a little nasty.

Tactics from Gill are crazy today.

Add in Woakes’ injury and you would say India have had the better of the MIA situation. Plus it was their decision to rest the ‘best bowler in the world.’

I’m not sure what they are saving him for but I’m certain he would have wanted to bowl in the first innings and would have played if selected.

Inexperience combined with a bit of arrogance I would suggest.

Brook has just proven he is on the verge of becoming a great... wonderful knock
.... and with Root in attendance

Agree was a strange decision to rest Bumrah... but glad they did

I mean you can't criticise Brook because he hit so many of those for four or six, but the game was won, done. In the bag. I don't think that was clever in this situation.

Again though.. so so frustrating.. why would someone in such control do that...

Great knock though..

FFS. Another quick wicket here they're right back in it. They were virtually down and out.

Poll: Which is the worst QPR team?

During the normal course of the Test, I am all for it. But in this specific situation, having done all the work, it was the only chance India had. Now they have a window. Ah well, he is a great player and will learn, especially if this goes pears.

Combined with not playing a shot - couldn’t make it up and wouldn’t work in any other sport. Thank god !

Difference between Brook who is a great player... and Root who is just... sublime ..

A generational talent... and will be irreplaceable
