Cricket 2025 County/International Thread 13:39 - Apr 9 with 93719 views | Superhoops2808 | With the football season coming to a close in a months time, some here will turn their attention to the smell of freshly mown grass and long days sat in the hot sunny weather watching the great game of cricket. As a member of Kent Cricket Club, I got to enjoy my first match of the season against Somerset at Canterbury over the last few days. Unfortunately, as is always the way starting the season this early, the first day was lost to rain. In fact nearly all the games were affected by rain, some without a ball even being bowled. But I did manage to get to see 2 centurions at Canterbury yesterday and a very enjoyable day of cricket (even if I did get sun burned head - Yes I know should have taken a cap). Did anyone else get to see cricket over the last few days? I know we have several Middlesex supporters who no doubt enjoyed the 'runfest' at Lords (over 1300 runs I believe) [Post edited 4 Apr 13:14]

The future without Stokes is terrifying, losing our best bowler, second best bat, best fielder and quite possibly the best captain we have ever had! Pope totally unconvincing as a captain, although trying to step in to the great man's shoes is a desperate task. At least we've worked out that Dawson is just a trundler and we can leave Bashir alone to develop, along with Rehan Ahmed I hope.

Cricket 2025 County/International Thread on 12:20 - Jul 30 by RBlock | Would have been good fun to stack the XI with county championship batters like Rew and Sibley, foregoing any bowling attack, and challenge a Bumrah-less India to take 20 at the Oval, playing for a very dull draw and a series win |
We've just asked the groundsman to step in and wind India up....

Cricket 2025 County/International Thread on 14:22 - Jul 28 by qprd | it was totally pathetic ben stokes dedicated his century to his late father washington sundar by all accounts is a nice kid- kohli, siraj etc could be prickly but that is a nice kid who doesnt bother anyone hes been stranded in the 90s and 80s before. he came into a dire situation. if he got out even at 50, india probably wouldve lost. he saved a match for his country. its the first century he's ever scored. he couldve easily wanted to score that century for a family member, someone else, etc for the england players to bully him as he walked off the pitch says a lot about them. folks like duckett and crawley have about one brain cell between them and are followers, but stokes is clearly better than that if johnny bairstow was on 93 not out, is england taking the draw? when england were battering the life out of teams like ireland, did they declare before milestones were hit? |

Think this is getting blown up a bit out of proportion. Did the England players bully him as he walked off the pitch? I've seen clips of Stokes going up and shaking their hands, hardly bullying. Of course it was whiny and puerile for them to complain about the Indian batters wanting to reach their centuries, they absolutely would have batted on in the same situation. They were also exhausted having been out on their feet for so long and probably very frustrated that the win had slipped from such a dominant position. As has been said, mountain out of a molehill. EDIT: Realised Superhoops was quoting qprd - apologies. [Post edited 30 Jul 15:21]

I get the rationale - they've lost their best bowler this series and only proper all-rounder in Stokes so need another seamer who can shoulder a proper workload. A couple of part-time spinners in Bethell and Root will have to do the job. Speaking of needing a proper all-rounder, Rehan Ahmed is absolutely cleaning up with bat and ball for Leicestershire at the moment. Only a matter of time until we see more of him in the test side. And picking Overton as well, because...he's Surrey and the game is at the Oval? Don't really get that one. Bowling attack does not fill me with confidence so I think the best we can hope for is a draw. Not sure how much play we'll get today with the rain around.

Cricket 2025 County/International Thread on 10:43 - Jul 31 with 793 views | Tonto | Wasnt massivley impressed with Carse or Tiunge unfortunately. Overton can bat a bit which helps. But the Oval is usually a bouncy pitch so they need someone who hits the deck. The bpwler i liked but hasnt featured recently is Potts.

Yeah odd how Potts has fallen out of favour. I'd like to see more of him. Clearly needs to up his golf/barista game.

Cricket 2025 County/International Thread on 11:35 - Jul 31 with 735 views | LimehouseR | Good start so far... India just need to hold it together for the first 20 overs or so. I don't have much confidence in this bowling attack but Atkinson has been bang on it so far. Woakes has looked good but then these are the perfect conditions for some one like him. Jimmy Anderson would have been in his element here!

Atkinson aside, that was one of the strangest days of bowling I’ve seen since watching village cricket. Great run out of Shubbers, that attempted single was a brainfart of the highest order. Tongue’s wicket balls were unplayable. Unfortunately, most of the rest of his bowling was unplayable unless you were on the next pitch !!! Reminded me of Harmy, down under where Freddy caught the ball at second slip (no edge near it).

We were truly terrible and how we got 6 wickets was beyond me. Surely a bowler down too for the rest of the match so a draw and a series win would be an excellent result from here.

The picture in the link from the BBC replaces the 1,000 words required….shocking for a professional bowler. Broad on commentary was trying his best not to laugh at times. https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/976/cpsprodpb/98aa/live/5c803430-6e45-11f0 DK’s third man review of Nasser’s innings against India was very amusing. Feel sorry for Woakes, that looked nasty and may be the last we see of him for England. I guess it leaves us a half decent batter down too so it would be good to wrap the innings up asap today. And please, no more Harry Brook with the ball.

It looked to me today as if 150 or possibly 200 was par for that wicket so we need to wrap the Indian innings up very smartly today by bowling a lot tighter than yesterday and then try to establish a first innings lead. Because with Woakes out and only three front line bowlers, if the pitch gets easier and India bat long in the second innings it’s going to put an intolerable strain on those three. It’s possible that Root and Bethell could tie down an end for a while but on a non turning wicket they might also get picked off very easily. Today is absolutely crucial because unlike India the England batsmen seemingly can’t be bothered to try to salvage a draw for the series win and besides Root I’m not sure they’ve got the temperament and ability to do it.

I agree, and losing this Test would be really annoying because a series win against India is nothing to be sniffed at, even if all that ever seems to truly matter is the Ashes.

If the wicket continues to play as it did yesterday, hard to see how they can win the game. If improved weather sees it flatten out slightly they might get away with yesterday’s village bowling performance via the middle order. But from here you’d definitely rather be in the Indian camp.

Yeah really odd bowling yesterday. Atkinson was great, but as for the rest...again, I don't understand the point of Overton. Woakes has just been ruled out of the rest of the match. I think the best we can hope for is a draw - and Sunday is supposed to be wet.

Bumrah and Archer must be really annoyed being left out for this one. Lucky for us because I reckon Bumrah would run through our batting in no time. Still, 2 quick wickets for us this morning and it’s game on. Feels like there’s a lot more twists still to come in the game. Overall, it’s been a great series and it would be a shame not to get it over the line as a win.

Top scorer was extra's right?? Tongue was shocking in my opinion and as Chef said, I really don't get Overton's inclusion unless they want to look at him prior to Australia Gutted for Woakes and unlikely he will play International cricket again in my opinion.

If they go out and “Bazball” it on this wicket it could be a recipe for disaster but apart from Root I’m not sure how many of them are capable of playing any other way.
