Injury hit, on the beach and checked out, QPR soundly beaten – Report on 11:15 - Mar 31 by TK1 | I'm reading your conversation with some absolute idiotic maniacs on Twitter/X. Have banned myself from Twitter QPR as it's too mad, and your conversation is exactly why. Incredible stuff. There's the (presumably) kids who love Nourry - and I get that, they want to believe the future is bright, burn down the past, why not, we've all been young but luckily for me Clive Allen was up front - and who seem to think we've a world class academy with "generational talent" playing there who'll be be international footballers soon (based on YouTube goal comps) and reply to anybody despairing of these long losing runs with "LMAO, who cares" type comments because they think the "fanbase" (mate, we're supporters, or fans, not a fanbase unless you're just on social media) are "so weird, man". That's the guy who made out Kevin Gallen was just bitter he wasn't Rayan Kolli, that was a good one. Then there's the guy who thinks we're on the cusp of a brilliant summer of recruitment, that the finances are actually really good if you look closely, and next season will be incredible because we can get rid of the dead wood and Nourry's team can buy some more good players. That you're an idiot if you're not really optimistic. This is the bit in Clive's report that really nails it. Whatever people thought of Les (and Ramsey), of some of their failed signings, there was always a sense that they knew what they needed to win games, of the mix required of Geoff Cameron-style dull experience with the kind of young players who might step up, that they knew enough people in football, had experience of dressing rooms, contracts at clubs, that between them and say Holloway or Warburton (even McClaren), they'd sign enough players like Barbet, Freedman, BOS, etc, players who could get the job done. (They only really messed up when Beale had a say too) Next summer, likely Nourry and Belk will be choosing a new coach and most of a new squad. Each will be received on socials the way Madsen, Dembele, Celar were received last summer, like we'd signed prototype Mpabbe and De Bruyne, that they had the league sown up, "they ain't ready for Nourry": an actual quote after we signed Madsen. It's going to end in tears. Ours. This is the kind of thing I can't reply to your thread on Twitter. But valiant effort, Dave. [Post edited 31 Mar 11:16]

I've tried so hard not to bite and get invovled on there last few months but fell down a rabbit hole yesterday when I should have just walked away

Whenever I'm getting grief on there for criticising one of our many "ballers" I like to do an advanced search for the account name and "Taylor Richards".

Injury hit, on the beach and checked out, QPR soundly beaten – Report on 11:35 - Mar 31 by FrankRightguard | One can only hope and pray that this summers recruitment has caused some lessons to be learned from Master Nourry. Stats based signings alone are way off the mark. Identify by stats by all means but then watch them, watch them, watch them! If anyone had been to see Madsen in the flesh surely to go they’d have given him a wide berth. Had high hopes for Anderson after the end of last season but that on Saturday was something akin to walking football. Marti ran out of places he could hide him in the end! |
I'm struggling to recall a drop off as dramatic as Andersen's. Must be injury related. I thought he was great this time last year. Now he can barely move about.

He has the ability of knowing where to be to stop the passing lanes and reacting to weaknesses in our set up and covering them. Spot on as well on Madsen. He has to be the biggest 'waste of money' signing we have ever made and there's some stiff competition for that. Among those that spring to mind are Mark Hateley, Ned Zelic and Chris Samba (at least we got our money back on him). Dreadful signing! [Post edited 31 Mar 11:53]

I think he's just older and his body can't do what it was doing 12 months ago. He sort of did the job that was required of him in that he helped keep us up last season. We were supposed to move on from him this season (Dembele, Saito and Madsen), and perhaps we can argue that we have as when people are fit he's not really anywhere near the first team. Think he's a bit of a comfort blanket for Marti in so much that he is a lovely player and understands the game very well. But the difference between what he can offer and what he does offer is vast. If he's starting a game then we are in trouble

Yeah, got to feel sorry for him on that first goal. He does a double take like Wile E. Coyote when Road Runner has sped past him.

I think it was back in October that I predicted we would be discussing the Madsen signing in the same breath as Ned Zelic for the worst (pound for pound) in our history… | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Quite. And, as we know from Gallen and Dave Mc, many other teams did go and watch him in the flesh because of his stats and subsequently gave him a wide berth. Whether we did actually watch him in person or not, I don’t know. I fear we used our new fancy data analytics tool where you can watch lots of live footage, and thought that was equivalent to being in a stadium, seeing the whole pitch at once, what all 22 players are doing, and then assessing. Why do the kids like Nourry? TK1’s line about burning down the past and optimism being fun struck me. Is it just that? Is there something else? Is it simply reinforcing every young generation’s naive view that they should be running things?

I don't remember a game when there's been such unanimous agreement on how shyte we were. Usually you'll get the odd alternative view from someone who dropped a tab just before kick-off but Saturday was just universally rank. We can't even achieve midtable obscurity when it's there on a plate in front of us.

I'd be fascinated to hear an interview with him as to how he's feeling. But he'd probably wince, drop the mike, and collapse in a little heap.

Andersen's an odd one, to be sure. I thought he looked fantastic in the home game v West Brom last year. They couldn't handle him. But by the end of the season it was already clear why he'd ended up with us.

Personally, there were probably 10 of them that were very poor indeed but, hey, lets give it to Madsen despite the fact that they all mostly played poorly. Poor play by posters too, 2/10. I think we both, like many, went too early on Andersen. Post-Eze we were desperate for an attacking midfielder who could play with his head up and get an early accurate ball into the box; he did it once and we were sold. A litttle like Luke Amos playing a give & go and memories flooding back of Gerry Francis, just a shame he was so fragile, could'nt tackle, shoot or do much else apart from run and show for the return ball. I wrote off Dozzell at the pre-season game @ Wimbledon and same with Andersen at a recent home game we were trying to see out and Marti decided to call him off the bench for bout of what can only be described as walking football! I think it was Morgan's debut when I saw Morgan leaving the building and wanted to compliment him on his courage having just watched Madesn & Celar hide all game. Next out the door was Madsen and I so wanted to give him a verbal tuning but he was with his friend so thought better of it, wish I had given it too him now.
