Morgan Fox: Stick or twist? 08:18 - Apr 22 with 4160 viewsnix

Personally I'd get rid.

Seems a nice fella but according to Sofascore he's only resulted in one clean sheet. He's given away one out of our three penalties conceded and two out of our three OGs. He's been injured quite a bit too and has only played in minutes the equivalent of fourteen whole matches. He's also as slow as treacle.

He's only scored one goal too. I know we want some continuity and wise old heads in the squad but still.

Thoughts?

Has looked pretty competent at times but follows good spells with blizzards of errors. His slowness is the clincher. Twist.

If our amazing scouting team can't find an adequate replacement for Fox then I despair.

They’re probably scouting a hot prospect with amazing stats from the Moldovan League at this very moment.

If his fate wasn’t decided before yesterday then I think it was firmly sealed by full time.
Had some decent games but when he’s bad he’s a catastrophe. One of the ‘experienced ‘ ones I’d let go in the summer.

As ever, money will dictate won’t it?

In an ideal world if there is someone cheaper and younger lined up then he’s gone, rightly so, in a dignified manner with plenty of notice so he can find another club.

If we just release and leave a gap then panic buy in September we’ve learned nothing from the last 15 years.

I said it in another thread, but Marti confirming a conversation hasn’t been had is terrifying.

How are you supposed to motivate a player that doesn’t know if he’ll be employed in three months?

I always shudder when he starts a game especially when one of a two at centre back.

Time to shake hands and move on for me. I would hope we have scouted a younger quicker replacement as we did with Morrison.

Well they did find Morrison and Edwards so I have hopes.

Well your comment slow as treacle made me smile, he was at left back I think it was against Portsmouth and he was at fault for both the goals where a reasonable amount of pace would have given him a chance but his legs have gone.

If I'm not mistaken he was released by Stoke, make of that what you will, he's been a model professional but that's not enough, we have to make some strong decisions going forward. Where possible keep the best experienced players if it's deemed by Marti and the coaching team that they are worthy of another year and Nourry can do the sums and do the tricky negotiations with the agent to not pay silly money for a years contract extension.

Fox for me falls into the twist category because next season he would at best be a squad/bench player and we should look to get somebody younger and quicker to do that job.

I'd keep him around just to hear Simmo's rants about him.

Very much twist, but I fear if Marti is staying he'll get another year as a way to fund other more expensive adjustments.

But what a goal, Nix! Incredible back heel that completely wrong-footed the keeper. Think it is time to move him on. I felt he was important this season as a seasoned campaigner with so many new faces lacking Championship experience. But he can be quite poor defensively. I think on three consecutive occasions yesterday he had routine headed clearances that he headed up in the air and put us under unnecessary pressure. Anyone can slightly mis-judge the flight of a ball once, but THREE times? He has done a decent enough job for us, but time to find a younger (and hopefully better) version.

Of what I've seen of him, it's twist. I think he's one of these blokes whose performance will drop exponentially. Filled a gap, time to put the money to better use.

With Cook staying id be fairly comfortable to see him leave, although I do think he's shown he can be on occasion a solid and versatile second string player.

Anyone know if there are any CBs in the development squad that are ready for some minutes yet?

Twist. 100%. No point expecting a better season than battling relegation/ending up 16th if we are giving out new contracts to players who have performed like Fox. Let's at least try to improve.

Thanks for your efforts, no hard feelings, firm handshake, good luck and all that.

He's better than I expected over the 2 years, did a decent job for us but have to let him go, when he's bad, as he was yesterday, he's abysmal

He single handedly lost us the home game against Portsmouth a result which I feel had a massive negative impact on the team at that point. Never warmed to him. Not oven close to being bang average. Get rid.

Probably the easiest call in the squad (Andersen a close second). Can get a much better, fitter, and more valuable squad player on a free. We have 3 good, if regularly unfit, centre backs on our books who just need competent back up who can start 10-15 games a season and not cost us results. Fox does not satisfy that criteria, and based on his body language yesterday I think he knows it.

Begovic levels of wage theft for me, sorry.
This kind of journeyman is ten a penny in the Championship, lets use the wages for better next year

He's at best OK, but has some real ricks in him. The fact he can cover both CB and LB, and he's probably cheap, works in his favour, but I would like to think we can get someone else, better and younger, for a similar wage.

I didn't see the game so can't talk about his performance yesterday, but seemed a bit unfortunate with the o.g.? Although if I was the manager, with Varane dropping out late on I wouldn't have split up the Morrison/Edwards partnership at CB, I'm sure someone else could have played at CM like Morgan?

Yeah if he’s not that expensive a useful squad player/sub. Fine to come on for half an hour and at least he is professional even if of limited ability

Could do better…. But have done a lot lot worse!

This.
Marti won't stand for such performances.

It's all very well being good against the drek of the Championship (Derby, Oxford, Cardiff, PNE etc), but when faced with a proper team in Swansea we can see he's not good enough.

He has a great left foot, he can cross the ball, pick a pass, but he's just not fast enough at LB. I mean when your slower than Paal, who is not fast enough, then we know we have problems.

Time to let go and the telling point is Marti has not said the same things about "Foxy" as he has about Cook.

Also we are seeing on the internet agent clickbait saying clubs are after him. No they are not.
He will be playing L1 next season, and that club will be saying, "Why did they let him go? he's solid" ... because at that level he will be .... until he gets injured again.

The defence is in for major changes over the summer.

zzzzzzzzzz
