Season perspectives 08:07 - May 4 with 31425 views | charlieB | Great result yesterday against Sunderland. Credit to the players, the staff, and especially the 1000 or so amazing fans who made the trip – that kind of support, in a game with nothing riding on it, speaks volumes. I’ve been reflecting over my morning coffee and just wanted to share a few thoughts. I know not everyone will agree, but hopefully it comes across in the spirit it’s meant – as a long-time fan trying to see the full picture. Marti deserves credit for keeping us up last season – he did the job he was brought in to do. But this season, we saw many of the same problems. We started with tactics that didn’t suit the squad – too passive, too deep, no real cutting edge. The players looked unsure of their roles and lacking confidence. When we eventually changed approach, results picked up – but it took too long, and the early damage was done. From what I’ve heard, he wasn’t well-liked behind the scenes either. Stubborn, slow to adapt, quick to deflect when things went wrong – and very happy to take the praise when they didn’t. He’s clearly a good coach, but I don’t think he was ever truly the right fit for this club. I won’t miss the terrace songs. On the other hand, I think Christian Nourry deserves more credit than he gets. He’s only 28, but age doesn’t define ability. He inherited a tough job – tight FFP limits, a small budget, and a club that’s been firefighting for years. And yet, recruitment has clearly improved. Not every signing will be an instant success, but all have contributed, and a few could add real long-term value – which is crucial for us as a selling club. They’ll take time to adapt, but there’s a shift in thinking, and that’s progress. The Ben Williams situation clearly had an impact – he was offered a big opportunity abroad and took it, which is understandable. But the void it left in the football department was felt. That said, I’ve heard that’s now been addressed for next season, which is good news. Of course, there’s a lot to do this summer. We need a head coach who suits the group, a more consistent playing style, and a couple of clever additions. But I genuinely feel more hopeful than I have in a while. There’s a bit of stability creeping in, and for once, it feels like we’re not just lurching from one short-term fix to the next. One thing we do need to change though – the way we treat some of our players. Madsen’s taken stick all season, often when he’s done little wrong. Now it’s Dembele. It’s like we always need someone to have a go at. These lads are human. They need support, not abuse. Confidence matters. Anyway, that’s just my view – take it or leave it. I’m not pretending everything’s perfect, but I do think there are a few more reasons for quiet optimism than people give credit for. Thanks again to Clive – this board remains a brilliant space, even when we don’t all agree. Have a great summer everyone – and here’s to next season, hopefully with a new head coach who can take us forward on this mad old rollercoaster we all insist on riding. COYR’S

Season perspectives on 11:09 - May 4 by charlieB | It was just an example FFS. This is like a salem witch trial! I’m genuinely not some insider or PR person - For a start my dyslexia would fail me at the first hurdle! I’ve been a long-time reader on here, and I don’t usually post on social and boards, however, to be honest I felt strongly enough to write something and offer my point of view after hearing some of the comments on here and the first half of Oxford away. I’ve been there for the tough times, like when we lost to Oxford United at Wembley (as favourites) , to Cardiff in Cardiff (Should have squared it) , and to Vauxhall Motors. But I’ve also been there for the good times, like the Sheff Weds beam back at LR and Bobby Z’s winner in ’89. I’m a genuine fan, just like most of you, and I want the best for the club. But I also think we need some perspective. |
‘Bobby Z’s winner in ‘89 ‘ No Rangers fan has ever referred to Bobby Zamora as Bobby Z. Certainly not back in 1989.
Season perspectives on 14:32 - May 4 with 2124 views | Ned_Kennedys | This thread is hilarious: all the faux outrage about a post on a football forum daring to dig out Cifuentes and demanding the source of the guy’s alleged inside knowledge even though he has stated he has none. And yet there are posters on here who frequently dig out Nourry and do claim inside knowledge of the inner (sometimes confidential) workings of QPR and get a bit upset if challenged on it and asked to name sources. Seem to be pushing a pro Cifuentes agenda to me. The odds are Cifuentes is done: we need to move on. Nobody (including Cifuentes and Nourry) are bigger than the club.

But the posters you speak of have been on here for a long while , we are familiar with their opinion and respect it whilst maybe disagreeing .. this OP signed up just as the present situation was about to surface and posts this puff piece ..

There have been new posters appearing this season to push an anti Nourry agenda as well though.

Come on Ned. You have consistently asked posters to prove that their information is correct. Would it not be consistent for you to have asked Charlie to do the same & name his sources?

Well as with virtually EVERY ‘in the know’ poster on here they have been asked earlier in this thread what their sources are and have avoided answering. Which probably means it’s just an opinion phrased as fact.
Season perspectives on 16:28 - May 4 with 1589 views | BklynRanger | Jesus H Christ what a thread. I can't tell if it's a bot (what is a bot again?), or AI, or a human using AI, or a human who really should be using AI, or the effect of the morning coffee (presumably with Jane Asher passing a slice of the most scrumptious lemon drizzle cake), or what. Either way I fully agree on the reading the room point made earlier - just let us process things at the end of another exhausting rollercoaster and piss off with whatever this is.

But isn't that what Charlie's is? But you apperar to have accepted his statement as fact rather than asking for his evidence. At least, that is the perception that I'm getting.

There's a difference between regular posters having contrasting opinions and whatever this cynical bullshit is. I think you probably know that though.

Season perspectives on 17:05 - May 4 with 1365 views | CLAREMAN1995 | I am waiting for Clive's match report then taking a break this week has been exhausting and thats just reading his superb reports/previews its hard to imagine how beat he is. However this thread is incredibly polorazing and actually very enjoyable in a strange way . First time in Marti's reign somebody actually suggested he was not not universally loved by the players and his tactics and game managment were actually contributing to our long losing streaks .Its one thing to completly lose the dressing room but another situation altogether if the players were not suited/unable to deliver on the pitch his exact instructions. Has any poster new or old heard the players did not fully trust Marti and once we fell behind early in games did not know how to respond because giving up the first goal was the most consistant think we achieved all season . Most posters freely admit we did not have the players to play the Marti favorite system and once we did a complete 180 our results imporoved thankfully or we were doomed to League 1. if a new Manager came in today with this exact squad available right now and it was mid season what would he achieve we will never know now of course . I personally believe running Marti out of town is a massive mistake but like a few posters our QPR experience comes strictly from LFW or the Offish and Hoops And Dreams not actually following the dream at Loftus Road and across England

Ok, let's try this: Can you answer the very first question you were asked? What your source is for the following. 'The Ben Williams situation clearly had an impact – he was offered a big opportunity abroad and took it, which is understandable. But the void it left in the football department was felt. That said, I’ve heard that’s now been addressed for next season, which is good news.' Thanks [Post edited 4 May 17:13]

This isn't meant in a inquisitory or persecutory way, but a product of my honest curiosity. You've said "recruitment has clearly improved" while also saying the squad is thin - which one is it, and why? In full disclosure, I agree the squad is thin but I think that's because the recruitment has been awful. This is the worst squad I've ever seen at Rangers and I went to every game home and away in the 2000/01 season and thought that team would never be topped for shìtness. As to whose fault this is, I have no idea because the club has deliberately obfuscated any clarity on who does what. [Post edited 4 May 17:14]

The pearl-clutching here is hilarious. You’ve appeared out of nowhere, during a very fractious PR campaign full of leaks and anonymous briefings, regurgitating a suspiciously one-sided view of events, alluding to insider knowledge without providing any evidence to back it up, at a club where senior executives have infamously used forums like this, in exactly this way, to try and manage perception in the past, and you’re surprised that people are sceptical? Come on. I’m not singlemindedly anti-Nourry or pro-Marti, and I have no particular reason to believe you’re not a genuine supporter, but I think it’s pretty obvious why you’ve been met with this reaction. It’s not Orwellian or a witch hunt to look at someone acting suspiciously and feel suspicious about them as a result.

Season perspectives on 17:31 - May 4 with 1193 views | charlieB | Look, what I meant is the recruitment over the last two windows has been good in my opinion. Players who we have brought in general have all improved the squad. Thin because we have small budgets and it will take may more windows to get to where we want it to be.
