thought he was great for england. great goal scorer whoever he played for.... and i will miss him on match of the day. just my opinion....now the seasons finished.
And he did shit himself in the 1990 World Cup match against Ireland, before yachting across the pitch like a dog with worms. Alright, not that last bit, but he did hold the record for biggest turd in an England shirt until Joey Barton got his one and only cap.

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'
I found Lineker to be about as interesting as a tofu salad, I couldn't tell you when I last watched MOTD all I remember about It was Lineker was talking to Shearer and between them they couldn't agree who was the most boring c hunt on the television.
Enough already.
I think Shearer won that most boring c hunt on the television competition.
Lineker earns (or used to) between £1,350,000 and £1,354,999 a year (LOL) I mean c'mon FFS.
To quote the brilliant Yosser Hughes; “Gizza job. Go on, gizza job. I can do that.”
My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.
Possibly the best finisher I've ever seen. Also calls out things others won't. Sure some don't like his opinions but I've seen the same types post memes saying "I might not like what you say but will defend your right to say it". Until it seems he says something "woke".
As for his salary, yes its ridiculous but comes with the football territory. Obviously his employer thought he brought that much value.

What you are missing is that he was employed by the BBC , the public services broadcaster , funded entirely by licence payers . His personal politics should have remained private in those circumstances IMO
Always liked him as a presetner, thought he did a great job on the BBC and he'll be missed, lovely send off for him on Sundays show
Great goalscorer as well, don't really care or have any real interest in his politics but for me he's entitled to have an opinion same as everyone else. Sounds like he crossed the line the other week which is why he had to leave now.
Like everyone in the public eye if you agree with his political opinions you like him if you don't you want him removed from your screens, thats sadly the way of things these days. A good time for him to go though, his podcast company is making a fortune and really taken off

I don't think he said anything political while he was at work at the BBC. He used his personal social media account.
Anyway he no longer works for them so I guess he can say what he likes now.
Rarely watch MOTD these days. When I did, Lineker always came across as a decent presenter. Not worth £1.3m pa though. Who is? He's entitled to his views and to say them in public forums. Just as entitled as a public school educated stockbroker, invited onto Question Time 35 times.
"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the Earth all one's lifetime." (Mark Twain)

Agree with all of this BUT, as a license fee payer, I do think he was massively overpaid and that the BBC should be using much less. costly but professional 'journalists'.
He reposted a depiction of Jews as rats , which if he had any knowledge of history he would know is wrong .
There's a rat in the post - of course it's wrong to use old racist tropes but the entire crux of the actual video was about explaining Zionism and he obviously feels strongly about thousands of innocent Gazans being slaughtered, so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he either wasn't aware of the rat as a trope or he hadn't noticed it, given he was sharing a reasonably lengthy video

It's not funded 'entirely' by the license fee, the BBC's commercial operations also raise revenue. Plus, for every £1 spent by the BBC it generates about £2.50 for the economy.
There's an awful lot wrong with the BBC, but Lineker's tweeting and the money they pay "talent", isn't a serious issue.
Lineker was the host of Motd, not a News or Political journalist and they consistently air their views outside the BBC, without censure.
I'm not sorry he's gone, I just think the manner in which he's been "cancelled" is a bit disingenuous.
I stopped watching MoTD years ago. Not because of any presenters but it was a few minutes of highlights followed by hours of unnecessarily highly paid people going on and on and on about something we’d just seen with everyone just agreeing or disagreeing with each other. No wonder pubs are closing at an alarming rate, everyone just sits at home getting angry on social media.
I usually just watch highlights on the Sky Sports app around 6pm then that’s me done for the day.
