I don't really understand the animosity towards him. If he had suffered a couple of ACLs in succession then nobody would be saying he's taking the piss.
Until someone comes to me with facts saying he has not seen a mental health doctor in the last 2 years, he's just been sitting around on his arse and lying about what's going on in his head I am going to be willing to give him another chance.

My take on Barry's pics is different.
In responding to suggestions that TR is ok because he's pictured out shopping and clubbing may still mask a plethora of issues going on in the dark recesses of his mind. As in, here's RW doing the same and look what happened to him kind of way.
I'm sure Barry can clarify as to whose interpretation is nearer to his thinking.
On a more mercenary note: were any of these alleged/perceived mental frailties remotely evident before we signed him? And if so, why did we proceed? I guess the next question would be: has QPR learned how to better identify such issues so as to avoid signing or know what steps need to be taken to manage the player's issue(s)?

I think his best friend died whilst he was on loan to us, so I don't believe his mental state would have been in question, when he joined us.
It is probably best to support the club in doing the right thing on this one, as there are far to many strong views being made with limited knowledge.

Don't get me wrong..... I am fully aware of mental health issues and not denying these effect people and in different ways.
I'll go with my gut feel on this. The fella is a wrong un. Isn't he the bloke Sir Les was concerned about moving back into his original parish and back with his "ma dem"??? I might be confused and that could be one of our old strikers but I don't think so.
I do wonder how we'd be approaching players like Leonne Jean or, dare I say, the scumdog Joey Barton; if, in todays parlance they shouted "mental health"???? Does slack immediately be cut?
I dunno....
Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Les had publicly said he knew the lad and had reservations about the signing here, simply because it was his roots here and he had fallen in with the wrong crowds round here ie gang culture. Les thought and said he felt it was unwise to sign him but Beale had sanctioned the signing and suggested he could ensure the boy would focus being that Rangers was actually the club he had supported as a boy.
Moral of the story - when you are looking for sound and reliable help, dont ask Michael Beale.
The latest press release suggested he had a poor injury record in last couple of seasons. Whether thats real or not, either way they trying to smooth over difficulties and tbh if there have been lots of troubles and if anyone of us off work for troubling circumstances ideally we would not want all and sundry to know.
Most people are guessing but it could explain things and as others have said you can still go out and do things but working and focus can be out of sync if mental health is a serious issue.
I just remember Ainsworth saying the boy just could not get himself going. Which does suggest what most here speculating
I think regards playing in the friendly. Fair enough. He did ok. I am of the thinking he won't be able to perform in an actual game anytime soon, unless he has improved health wise, which could have happened.
Or we are putting him in the shop window for a loan and then we shake hands end of this season.
Its unfortunate all round, but what I would say to those that are saying its not a serious mental health issue, or very serious injury problems, then if its certain he is just phoning it in, then am certain as a club we could have got rid of him as he would have been within serious breach of his contract.
Employment law would enable us to get rid, if that was the reality.
I supported a guy who had bipolar and worked for Microsoft and was off sick for two years and on 75% salary and was on a very high salary around £100k. Most firms then got rid of people. Was 20 years ago but even then Microsoft protected him and paid him. He wasn't able to return.
Am guessing with these agents the salaries and protections around such events would be similar for footballers in the same way Microsoft was able to implement their policies around it. Not the players fault in all reality. Just the mad world of football.
Appreciate the sums paid wind up fans but if he wasn't unwell, absolutely we could have breached the contract.
I would not classify him as suffering mental health troubles.
He is just clearly a really nasty individual that had a boiling point that could be reached at any hint of disagreement.
Violence can not be excused by mental health for me.
And Barton was simply incredibly divisive, massively opinionated and had a severe case of ego mania. He could still be available for selection. He could still play every week. Etc
For me, Barton was just a horrible individual. To give him the out as suffering with his mental health. I personally would say he wasn't as he could work and play but just was a nasty individual. Not mental health sufferer for me.
A totally different set of circumstances and completely separate.
In that sense the term mental health can be very misused. I old language Barton would be said to be "MENTAL" but absolutely not suffering with poor mental health in anyways.
Have worked in mental health fields a lot and suffered my own troubles at times.
Barton is totally different..... That's where messages get cloudy...

I wouldn't say Barton is 'suffering' from his mental health issues he seems ok with it impacting those he comes into contact with the way it does, no remorse.
I suppose I take the view that people are not born bad! They are made through various forms of neglect, abuse and trauma.
Anyway.... If we get 10 games out of Richards this season and it contributes to points then I'd take that as some form of payback, however small.
Then get rid when his contract is up

Clearly elements to that with Barton ie from his upbringing but with his actual achievements in life, he would have had the opportunities to be around a lot of much better individuals and situations, yet still carried on as he has done.
With real mental health troubles, often you cannot do very much at all and sadly it can be out of the person's control to recover.
I agree with you regards Taylor. Still a young boy too. Good luck to him, I say.

Yeah you’ve nailed it.
For the record, having thought about it, and whatever the reason for his terrible record, I’m not sure I want him getting league minutes ahead of anyone (especially Bennie) as he’s just too unreliable.
Loan him out if we can. If it is a MH issue look after him as long as he’s ours for both legal and moral reasons.
What’s the point in getting angry?
