Taylor Richards finally going? on 18:42 - Jun 23 by Northernr
Agree mate. The particular frustration here is they were told, repeatedly, including by their own scouts, not to do this one under any circs. They pressed on regardless because Beale insisted - manager wants manager gets in action again.
I was very supportive of Les throughout his time here but he really ballsed up that 18 month period. He didn’t even want to do the deal himself.

I heard Les would have chosen Marti at the time Beale was appointed but we would have had to pay £1 million release clause to get Marti, so Michael was chosen instead !!!

Every club is entitled to errors, even catastrophic ones like Richards. The frustration is that seemingly at no point in the process of giving him a lucrative long term deal did anybody stop and ask why Brighton were willing to take a loss on him so quickly and bent over backwards to facilitate the deal.
I'm guessing the club set its own precedent with the signings of Taraabt and Eze. Where it was a perceived attitude problem, rather than any lack of skill, or poor injury record which saw them end up at QPR.
It sounds like it was Beale, who thought he could nurture Richards and help develop the correct work ethic.
The part that worries me is the mentality of a player who stops striving once they have got that large contract. I listened to that Mac Bonne interview, where he says that QPR paid him way too much, and after that he couldn't be bothered (or words to that effect).
I fully support the idea of taking in waifs and strays. They might be sh1t but try hard like Smyth They might be good, but made of glass like JCS But, the common theme has to be to keep them hungry.
If that means that the player wants to move on once they progress (like Varane) then it means the model is working in my book

Why would Stephan need an analyst (Rudy Cuni), if Nourry's analysis laptop dictates how the club and football is run?
I was quite surprised by that as well. Be interesting to know what role he’ll perform here. I expected it to be very much head coach and assistant sliding into the system they’ve already built here.

This is the main issue i have with buying players from purely numbers . how much scouting is actully done with them ? whats there home life like , getting a feel of a player and all the other aspects of is he a good fit .
I'll lay long odds that if you have 2 young players with similar technical abilities, you always take the one with the most competitive attitude.

I'm still at a loss as to knowing what that system is!

I'm not sure it is just an analysis role. I just watched a video on YouTube and the role looks a little more. More pulling all the different data across the club into one place, plus being on the bench and providing real-time data to the head coach.

Not sure you’re comparing apples with apples there, Philogene is a winger and Archer a striker.
No I'm saying who would you rather get on loan if you were in the know: an effective winger or striker or a sub optimal (at the time) midfielder. Guess what Beale went for? That's with inside knowledge!
All this stuff about watching a player over data is overplayed on here. You have to take everything into account and even then it's a gamble, and the decisions are only as good as the judgement of the person making them,

I mentioned it before, but Taylor Richards was mustard on paper before he signed for us.
England international etc.
I bumped into a Brighton fan in Bruge not long after he signed who also said he was mustard. A case for scouting the head as well as the feet it seems.

Okay, I'm going to bite... is Richards finally getting going??
Anyone else thinking that the penny may have dropped for Taylor...
I mean, the odds are stacked against him but physically he even looks like a footballer again, and he seems to be invovled in training.
We don't know anything about the off-field antics, so would be great to see that its all behind him (personally as well as professionally) but also as he is a local lad as well it would be great to see him fulfil the promise he must have shown for Citeh and Brighton to have taken him on.
I know, what must I be drinking to post the above but still. What does everyone else think...

I mean, why would Richards start to knuckle down and make an effort in training as he enters the last 12 months of his contract?
