World Club Cup Final on 21:37 - Jul 13 by johnhoop | So after virtually annihilating everyone else they’ve played this season PSG decide not to turn up against bl——dy Chelsea. |
No but they tried a few dirty tackles once the result was never in doubt and hopefully Donnaruma will get a nice suspension for his B.S after the final whistle pretty pathetic from PSG overall. Pulling hair ,nasty tackles and even their coaches getting involved showed their other side after a nice few months. The PL is going to interesting with Arsenal adding top players ,City and Liverpool staying right there maybe even Chelsea pushing up there .

World Club Cup Final on 22:08 - Jul 13 by ngbqpr | Still not sure how they qualified tbh. Since they won the CL 4 years ago, they've finished 3rd, 12th, 6th, 4th. Not even the best team in London for the last 3 years. |
No one qualified, it was by invitation and any suggestion of qualification was made up.
World Club Cup Final on 07:45 - Jul 14 with 1872 views | stevec | Mate of mine an ST holder at Chelsea. Was forever telling me how bored he and everyone else was with how they played last season, this a team that practically never dropped out of the top four. He actually enjoyed coming down our place when the opportunity arose, though quite rightly he’d never support us. Fact is, Chelsea and its supporters have lost their soul, knowing their club is a corporate entity and being a football club is nothing more than a route to greater wealth. We may be a bit rubbish but I’m glad we are us and not them.
World Club Cup Final on 08:16 - Jul 14 with 1791 views | kernowhoop | Can we not learn something from that match? Not the awful ballyhoo (please, no more of that), but the way that Maresca's tactics enabled his team to beat a superior (on paper) outfit. For those that don't like passing out from the back, or, at very least, don't like tippy tappy stuff, here was a team that won a match by blending possession and aggression with long balls out of defence that took apart the winners of the Champions League. Could we do that in the Championship? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Not saying it's not a farce, I didn't watch a single game because it's nothing more than a pre season friendly tournament (with a lot of money) but there is qualification. This is meant to be every 4 years, the winner of each continents champions league in that period qualify (21 Chelsea, 22, 24 Madrid, 23 City for Europe) then they give the rest based on coefficient (max 2 per country). They can absolutely invite teams though, see Inter Miami, late "qualification" for winning the 2024 MLS Supporters' Shield. FIFA is rank

Agree with your sentiments about Chelsea fan being bored and not enjoying the moneybags club's fare on show. Have over the years, had been mates with both a Chelsea fan and another, who was a Man City follower. Both have stopped supporting them, because they simply bought success. I doubt i personally would do that myself. But I could see their point of view. [Post edited 14 Jul 9:16]

The criteria for participation is very loose. Champions League success (hence Chelsea squeezing in) seems more important than domestic League success... tells you straight away the FIFA thought process.... Euro League here we come Juventus got in ahead of Napoli even though Juve last won Serie A 5 years ago but Juve have had a stronger presence in Europe in the same time frame, that's the barometer for FIFA.

Sorry to piggyback off your comment again, but yeah you're right. The qualification is done by a league points table from last 4 seasons of Champions League performances. Anything domestic has no implication on this. I just have a feeling that this was a test run for the actual World Cup next summer, more likely just an ego trip for Gianni but still. Fans all over the world flying in for a tournament across Mexico, USA and Canada. Can't see anything going wrong at all.
World Club Cup Final on 11:29 - Jul 14 with 1261 views | NorrisGreen | Be fair that was a scintillating performance by Chelscum. Who'd have thought playing with pace, energy and directness would be the way to win a game eh!? But, I fear the general spectacle was an indication of how WC26 will be... Kicked off late, nearly 10 mins I feel. I suspect this was deliberate as DAZN shoehorned plenty of extra ads into the broadcast. Half time went on for ages too. Loads more commercials... Presentation of medals took place at least 30mins after final whistle. Ridiculous delay with players and retinues getting bored and bickering. Loads more commercials.. So an 8pm ko that should've been over at 10ish dragged onto to nearly 11pm - imagine if there were was ET and pens! Would've been over 4hrs of broadcast with probably 60mins of ads inserted. That smiling smug gonk Infantino must be world's most punchable face - hopefully he'll have a nasty accident before the big one next year and be sidelined.

Didn't watch any of it. If the Septics turn next year's event into a circus like their country, then I won't watch it either. If everyone who moans about it from western/developed nations did the same, with resulting effects on audience numbers and brand awareness, then what do you think would happen? Well maybe, some change. However, it's a whole new market nowadays. SE Asians who associate with winners (so no Preston away for former Leicester fans); buying merch; paying big to see meaningless matches featuring Prem teams etc.; subscribing to PPV channels will override our negative reactions. The game will soon not require us to attend,as immersive ad-fuelled experiences will allow you to be 'at' the match from your living room anywhere in the world. So, as I say: don't like it, don't buy in! Sounds like Chelsea won...fck 'em, not bothered either way!

It all just feels very manufactured and deliberate to ensure the elite (i.e. those with CL pedigree) are involved. Can't be having any pesky 'lower' clubs being involved. Qualification should always be on merit but even we suffered nigh on 60 years ago because UEFA hadn't envisaged a third tier team winning a domestic cup. So what? It was won on merit, let that team participate. It's deserved even if eliminated first round. We weren't given that chance. [Post edited 14 Jul 15:16]

I agree 100%, that's all it is. The PIF being the direct funder of this tournament who have been involved in numerous weird deals with Chelsea's Clearlake in the past. It just stinks

Same. Forgot this thing was even on. Seems like a dress rehearsal of the inevitable European Super League circle jerk between clubs that are now owned by the Yanks and Gulf Petrostates.

The sooner PIF take over 'elite' football and form a world league and all the Chelscums, Manures, Citehs, Arses and Cesspool of this world fack off the better. Then we can get back to proper football

The Saudis have bankrolled the whole tournament through investing $1bn in DAZN, which then spent that $1bn for the rights to the tournament, and made all games free to air. Infantino makes a complete transparent mockery of the World cup rotation and bidding process to award Saudi the World cup in 2034, and in return, they finance Infantino's project and get their clubs access to major European clubs in competitive football. To me, this looks to be partly about normalizing intercontinental club football, probably as an opportunity to get Saudi clubs playing big European clubs rather than pi ssing about in a league that no-one in the wider world cares about. If a European Super league were to happen, then I would be very surprised in the Saudis didn't try and get involved. That would solve the issue they have with players in their prime opting to stay in Europe for 1/10th of what they could be earning in Saudi. Unfortunately, money talks, and the Saudis have more than most, and are happy to pay whatever, to whoever, to get their way. Also interesting that of all the properties in NYC, FIFA make the politically-divisive decision to open an office in Trump Tower.
