If this has been done before, apologies.
What are your favourites, say why if you want. Not mandatory.
Me? Old enough to have seen Sir Reg and his beyond powerful strikes.
The schadenfreude as TK slotted that penalty away to the buckets hysteria (with best celebration ever) will never be forgotten, or laughed at.
But favourite goal ever? We've seen some magnificent ones, but the occasion, the skill, the GOAT, 2nd v Leeds Utd. Share yours please. If video is possible, even better.

One old, one newish

Dennis Butler v Halifax 1969: mild evening in late Spring, promotion-chasing with opponents, 10000+ crowd. Took the ball in the centre circle, waltzed around a couple of players and leathered it into the top corner from about 25 yards. Only goal of the game

Steve Davies v Spurs, 2018: game on national tv, almost over, control and pass in centre circle to Matty Done out left. Carries it forward, weights the cross perfectly to skim the head of a defender whilst Davies arrives at the far post. Perfect control and slot home in one movement. Congratulated by Harry Kane on its execution as they walk back amid the mayhem

Dave Cross headed goal v Coventry in our FACup giantkilling game in 1971…immortalised on the front cover of the programme in 1972.

But the Henderson goal v Leeds mentioned above in another giantkilling act is a close second.

Third place ….Reg Jenkins screamer from a free kick outside the area at Bolton in the league cup in 1969. A bit of a fraud to say I saw it…nobody did…particularly Boltons goalie ( England international Eddie Hopkinson I think)

For me, it will always be Joe Thompson against Charlton. THAT goal. The one that kept us up on the final day. My favourite ever memory as a Rochdale fan.

For him to come back and do that after what he had been through. A man who had fought cancer twice, come back from the brink, and then, with the entire club on the edge, delivered when it mattered most.

It still gives me goosebumps. RIP JT15

Shosh free kick v Northampton, purely for the atmosphere in the Sandy that followed.

Has there been a bigger crowd at Spotland since that game, does anyone know? Think it was 9044 that day.

For emotion and what it meant I'd probably say the David Perkins rocket v Darlington. We were heading out of the play-offs again at the first attempt and it lead to those penalties and ultimately Wembley for the first time - and its still our only ever play off game win!!!!!

Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

Hendo's lobbed volley against Leeds in the cup and Perkins worldy against Darlington in the Playoffs are strong contenders. Both great goals in big games. Hendo/Paddy/Simpson/Holt all have a few worthy mentions.

If I was picking one, it'd be Peake's overhead kick away at Halifax, it was my first ever away game.

I can't remember the actual goal or even who scored it, but the goal that secured our football league survival, think it was 1986, away at Crewe in a Friday night when we had well over a thousand going.
Second and third the goals that gained us our last two promotions.

Deffo Hendo v Leeds for me.
Sat in the main stand with my LUFC supporting mate, only wish I had a picture of my wild celebrations while he was slumped with his head in his hands… 🤣

Robbie Wakenshaw's free kick in the 4-2 victory over Preston, my 1st away game, remember doing the conga in the away end.
Lyndon Simmonds overhead/bicycle kick against Wrexham.
John Bramhall's last minute header v Torquay (?) Think he scored 2 dentical goals late on, can't remember if it was an equaliser or winner now but it felt like a victory

That was a dreadful game. We were 3-0 down with 11 minutes to play and the crowd had gathered behind the dugout bayinbg for blood.

Bramhall (2) and Dave Grant scored to make it 3-3, but the crowd continued to shout "Halom Out" and he was gone a week later.

Let's also not forget Wakenshaw's spectacular scissors kick at home to Halifax later in the season.

Butler v Coventry in FA cup first time round. Tony Bucks glancing header against I can't remember who ( 69/70). Holt's 'shinner' at CHARLTON IN FA cup in front of 3,00 travelling fans. last but not least, our first ever goal at Wemberleee.

Shosh v Scarborough, free kick from near the centre circle, insane goal. Wish I'd seen Wakenshaw's vs Halifax - my uncle who had a season ticket at the time and had been a regular since the 60s said it was the best goal he'd ever seen at Spotland. Sadly not recorded on video

So many special goal and most have been mentioned. Peake overhead at Halifax would probably be my most memorable.

Interesting how many of these goals were live tv games! I guess the occasion helped.

Jonah v Southampton a great shout, I loved the JT headed goal against them at home, we were in dream land.

One of my personal favourites that hasn’t yet been mentioned was Paul Connor’s goal v Coventry in the FA Cup. We hadn’t had a game of that size for a while as I recall and Cov were a much better side than us. He also scored one of the best goals I’ve seen for Dale against Carlisle in a 6-0 win.

The most I’ve ever celebrated a Dale goal besides those mentioned above, oddly was when we equalised at Wolves in the Fifth Round of the same FA Cup run, Gavin Melaugh(?) getting a toe end on a Simmo shot. Matched by the Rushden OG in the playoff semi final!

The best individual goal I have seen for the Dale, and my personal favourite, was Paddy away at Halifax. On a bobbly pitch. The man was the most talented player I’ve ever seen for the Dale, Lambert, Holt, Tom Heaton, Hahnemmann included. All anyone in the crowd wanted whenever he played was for the other players to give the ball to him. Don’t recall that ever happening much with other players. That he went on to score similar wonder goals for Celtic showed he was supremely talented, despite rumours about lack of professionalism.

Honourable mention for Kevin Townson at home to Fulham who were a Prem team and had some class players in that game.

Have seen many great Dale goals over the years, but the ones that mean the most to me personally are the ones that secured a promotion, play off spot, win in a derby match, save us from relegation, secure a match against big opponents in the cup etc, even if a penalty like Muirheads against Darlington.
That Paddy goal at the Shay was magical he was magical. The most entertaining player we have ever had .
