Out of the darkness – Report on 22:03 - Aug 31 with 4556 views | Philothesuperhoop | Brilliant Clive, thanks. Your paragraph about Kone is exactly how I feel about him. So spot on. I’ve been boring people with precisely the same thing…simply having a striker that can run through on goal and actually score. First time in a generation we’ve had one of those. Madsen was ok, and I agree with you that he made some decent passes and tried to go forward, but I still think he’s miles away from being a Championship centre mid. It is a very physical league and he is weak and goes missing. Against the better sides the games goes around him and he hides. However his set piece delivery is good…so he’s a bit of a conundrum. Saito on the other hand is tremendous. If he can produce more performances like yesterday maybe this season won’t be as bad as a feared after all.

Out of the darkness – Report on 22:20 - Aug 31 with 4347 views | nadera78 | Something I've been thinking about since the three signings last week - and is similar to your comments in the report about the game model being put to one side - is the change in player profile these signings represent. The club spent the entire summer and opening month of the season playing up the prospect of the DS players coming into the team and playing a big role, and yet we've just gone out and signed 3 experienced Championship players. I don't believe this was the plan all along, although they'd probably try and spin it that way, because they could have signed Hayden ages ago if they'd wanted, perhaps even Saito too. It looks to me like they've had a bit of a shock - that front office naivety coming face to face with Championship reality - and been forced to add some experience, some know-how, some reliability to the team. That's not a bad thing, in fact it's been staring us in the face, but it does feel like an interesting move.
Out of the darkness – Report on 22:21 - Aug 31 with 4311 views | Lblock | Katie Prices gaff at Christmas is a busy place TBF I share your hopes that some learning is done by the brains trust over the international break. It should be absolutely-bloody obvious by now that “the project” needs to go in the bin. Establish your base camp and move from there. Handsome Ron and one more progressive CM tomorrow would do it, but, if not; we go with what we’ve got and use them the right way. 50 odd points left to get

Well, they were definitely doing RND and Saito anyway. But, like I say, if it took Coventry for a bit of realism and pragmatism to set in then it was worth it. This time last year we won at Luton, and if you listen to the comments from the subsequent fans forum I think it lulled them into thinking it was all going to be fine. Took until October for some acceptance it wouldn't be.
Out of the darkness – Report on 22:29 - Aug 31 with 4248 views | StrawberryHillR | Kevin Betsy said something after the Sunderland game at the end of last season, something about the how players enjoyed being able to be a bit more attacking... we are far less sideways and backwards these days. The first goal came from a quick throw by Walsh, but what was great was that when the ball came across not only was Kone there to step over it, but Smyth had charged into the box to finish it off (just about). In recent seasons it's been notable the lack of bodies we've been able to get in the box, decent balls in that end up floating across the opposition box, just begging to be finished off. Similarly, the forward runs of Burrell and Kone both helped Saito's run at goal for the second. It's bleeding obvious really, but great to see.

You could say the same now that a win over Charlton might stir complacency in the fanbase that all will be well. Let's see how we fare at Wrexham against a side who has had three years of success and who specialise in getting late goals followed up by an improving Stoke side. After the previous horror show on the road will we lose our nerve in the first away game facing a team that will attack us like Coventry did? We have done reasonably well away from home in recent seasons so could this campaign be a season of struggle on our travels? Only time will tell but three away defeats out of three, including Plymouth, in August is not a good start. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

All true, but unbeaten at home is a positive. Our home form is going to be critical for survival this season.
Out of the darkness – Report on 22:54 - Aug 31 with 4025 views | sevenhoop | well done for sticking with it, Clive. And another first class report. however.....though there was much to be positive about, we were that penalty which would have been given all day long if he goes down, that sending off, or one of those two awfully taken late incredibly dangerous-positioned free kicks on either side of our box, from losing again and to a very ordinary side. i think i know football but i look at the players on the pitch and i cannot for the life of me see how we are constantly and consistently surrendering possession and being dominated by all other teams who create opening after opening against us. (Apart from the obvious, which is that we need at least one very good all round midfielder who can take charge of a game). And this is no Ali rope-a-dope stuff, which had purpose and a strategy - you cannot strategise a "hope they don't score from ripping us to shreds" gameplan; that relies on luck. yes we now have players to hit teams on the break, but we could easily again have been out of the game by then. Hope the players gel and i can stop being such a miserable bastard.
Out of the darkness – Report on 22:55 - Aug 31 with 4014 views | KensalT | Great report Clive. Very fair all round. One very small quibble. Madsen's pass completion of 26/40 is 65%. Bit harsh to say "nearly half his attempts went to Charlton players", especially when he's knocking balls forward and not rehearsing Russell's Martin's "Strictly" routine.

I get it mate, but my Twitter is getting absolute pelters and I've got people emailing me pretending to be my dead dad telling me what a waste of space I am so I couldn't really write that report could I? Had to at least try and be positive. And, hey, they won. It's meant to be fun this. As I said after the last home win (February) when you've won 22/82 home games it is important to try and be positive and happy when the rare good days come around.

I don't think balancing the budget and bringing in players is as simple as you make it sound. We're also rightly not privy to all the financial ins and outs. These players coming in may have been contingent on the Eze deal for instance. I'm sure we were going to sign another DM all along but Hayden won't be cheap so we may have had a downgraded version without the windfall. They've definitely made mistakes in the squad but EVERYONE knew we needed an experienced midfielder and LB so it doesn't make sense that this was a surprise.
Out of the darkness – Report on 00:42 - Sep 1 with 3475 views | CLAREMAN1995 | Excellent report and 2 goals in front of the loft is a perfect way to end a miserable week . Loved the Kone breakaway section but what would Frey have done we know Armstrong would have dribbled the ball over the end line for a goal kick . Mbengue frightens the crap out of me to be honest I think he is slightly mental and hits so hard he will get a few red cards and give up a couple of penalties I fear .The ref was probably more concerned about the penalty area chalk line trying to get the call right (outside fair play to him ) than getting the second yellow so yes a massive let off .. Charlton looked the more likely to win it but that man Saito what a player we have thank Christ
Out of the darkness – Report on 01:11 - Sep 1 with 3429 views | BrisbaneR | Very good to see you back & writing the game report Clive (even though Jamie was pretty bloody good). A bit easier writing about a win and there are hints of hope in here too? (careful) I love that we have at least a couple of blokes in the team, centre half & centre forward, that other teams are physically intimidated by. When was the last time anyone played Rangers and thought they might get knocked around?

Fr*king heck Clive. Hard to understand the mentality of people that would say such a thing, just because your views on a football club differ from theirs. You are entitled to your own opinions about our club as much as any of ourselves. These kind of messages are bordering on criminal. These people that are sending such vindictive nasty messages, really have evil within. No one in their right mind would be doing such a thing. Makes me think they really have nothing going for them in their own lives, and in real life and not hiding behind a keyboard, they would say nothing at all. I would suggest if you receive any such vile personally abusive comments again, its actually a crime. Would suggest that to prevent these people carrying on like this, it is actually an offence. Am sure they would stop then.Am sure the club too, would deal with such people appropriately also. When my dad was nearing his end, we chatted about football, i didn't know what to chat about and he was like, yeah life goes on, and football is totally irrelevant at those times. It's really not important at all in the scheme of things. These nasty little individuals being so small minded just because they dont agree with your viewpoint is pathetic. You are the better man and all on here appreciate your hard work, in keeping all of ourselves amused and interested on this forum. The phrase "Some People" comes to mind.... People not even worthy of any decent persons time or thoughts.....

Kone was great, menacing at times and he never looked like missing at the end. Not sure about the thigh reveals and spitting, a bit niche that. Yeah, I don't think Hayden coming in relatively late is due to him hanging on for us so much as indicative of the other offers he got. The Coventry game may have got him a few grand a week more, though. Clive - love your work. Some people are just plain shit when they can do/say what they want behind a mask of anonymity. That bitterness will eat them up, in the end.
