When Roy Wegerle scored that outrageous goal at Leeds there was a lot of applause from the home fans, and rightly so.
From my own point of view I remember applauding an excellent goal by David Platt for Villa at LR. That's probably the only time I remember doing it though.

The opposite of this is the Sinclair overhead kick where one of the Barnsley fans is standing upto the right of the goal and berating the team, like it was stoppable.

The David Platt goal was the one I was going to mention.
I remember a lot of QPR fans (myself included) applauding Les Ferdinand's goal on his (I think) first return to QPR with Newcastle. If I remember rightly there was a ball played through the middle and he out muscled Maddix and scored at the loft end. He just turned around and put his head down but looked surprised by the response he got from QPR fans.

When i was younger, I always remember the lower loft applauding the away keeper when he would be infront of us.
Does that still happen.
On other away players, Portsmouth gave Henry a standing ovation once when he was subbed off woth Arsenal winning.
There was a ritual where the away keeper would walk towards the Loft and get applauded. When they surprisingly acknowledged it they were met with a healthy show of the W anker sign. Was quite regular and really funny.
There's quite a lot of applause from behind the goal for both of Gareth Ainsworth's goals at Rushden & Diamonds all those years back.
As well as the goalie Billy Turley screaming at his centre back Barry Hunter after the first, which as Ian Holloway rightly pointed out is hilarious, what did he expect him to do?!

Ah, now I thought the same (about the Wrexham crowd) when I saw it. Good post.
I remember us clapping the Platt goal, but also that little charmer David Speedie 😱😱😱, for lobbing Seaman (quiet at the back) for Cov. We were giving him stick all game but still applauded the goal. All round nice guy that he was, he gave the old-fashioned “wallop” sign back to us. Hostilities soon resumed!
I need a SAGA. What’s the SAGA? It’s ….. Queen’s Park Rangers.

I'd forgotten that. Big standing ovation afterwards, too.
The Platt one is the oppo one that stands out for me as well, though there were others, I'm sure.
Wegerle at Leeds as well. Was there for that.
The Barnsley lad in the School End giving out about the Sinclair goal is a great shout - cracks me up every time!
And as for the Everton fans applauding Ferdinand when other Everton fans were giving him horrendous racial abuse, just shows how even the worst clubs can have good fans as well as bad.

Strangely enough, my memory is that Rangers were ther only crowd that didn't applaud the away goalkepper! This was back in the 60's & 70's so that might have changed as we grew older.
The Loft greeted them with - F* F** F*** F*** OFF

I don't remember applauding a particular opposition goal, although I approve of doing that.
I do remember, however, at LR, staying behind at the end to applaud Colchester United after they had thoroughly beaten us in the League Cup (1-4), thanks to a brilliant performance from Lua Lua.
