| Madsen on 10:05 - Oct 23 with 2078 views | gazza1 | Madsen started to play very decent football at the back end of last season when MC was Manager but supporters still failed to see his good performances....he was excellent at Oxford but still got grief and negatives thrown at him. It even continued this season when he was performing very well. He always had plenty of technical ability but posters wanted him to run around like a 'headless chicken' and that was never going to happen - he is far better than that. Some of his passes are sublime and so 'well weighted' it makes it so much easy for the receiving player. His positioning is very good too and looks/finds space frequently. Last night he was our best player by a 'country mile'. | | | |

'By a country mile' is a funny expression. A country mile isn't longer than a city mile or suburban mile. Perhaps it means walking across the countryside is more arduous than along a road and so feels longer?

| Madsen on 09:52 - Oct 23 by daveB | So should we stick Celar and Santos back in the team as well then, give them more time. After the way he played last season if we could have got our money back I'd have sold him last summer even taken a small loss. All very well moving to a new country etc but he didn't look remotley interested most of the time, games just passing him by, all I wanted from him was a bit of effort and now he's showing it. His transformation has been basically putting in tackles and running about a bit all things he could have done last season but it's great to see him realising what is needed and doing so well. |
Ultimately, you’ve got to take account of the cost of the player, what he could add to the team (potentially) and whether there’s any positive signs to work with that suggest the player can be improved. As poor as he was, I thought there were signs with Madsen last season he could be improved - scored 3 and got a few assists as well. I didn’t see as much with Celar and Santos to suggest they’d reach much higher but also importantly, a midfielder that can pass was something we’ve been crying out for. An immobile striker relying on service, playing in a position we got reinforcements for in the summer and a right back that didn’t show much and was peanuts to purchase isn’t so demanding of patience and developing. We can afford to move them on. Personality is also important, you only had to hear the blokes interview to understand he’s a thinking footballer with a lot of self doubt so you need to work on that too. Madsen is someone that we needed to trust the management with to get right and think they’ve handled him very well.

No, neither are suited to Championship football, not good enough & basically do not have the talent that is required, just like Kelman who many wanted the Club to 'give him a chance'!!! Shocking!!! Thought they would of learnt from Dykes being given chance after chance. Sell them both as soon as possible.

| Madsen on 23:03 - Oct 22 by daveB | I'm sure I did, he was dreadful last season, wouldn't run or put a tackle in and not great on the ball either, just strolled through games. Completly different player since the Watford game, the work rate and work off the ball has transformed his game You can only call what you see with players, last season was nowhere near good enough and this season he has been a lot better, long may it continue |
To be fair, he was much improved at the back end of last season. To say only since Watford is a bit harsh. Nobody played well against Watford.

From Google so no idea if true? "Roughly speaking a country mile is 10 furlongs (2200 yards) whereas a mile is 8 furlongs (1760 yards). The country mile is also called the Old English Mile, and the present mile has been called the Statute Mile or London Mile. Formerly the definition of a mile varied around the counties." I do know that in the back end of Kent, there is no straight line between two points a mile apart and you'd walk two miles around twisting roads to do it. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

The whisper when he was signed was that it was a 5 year contract, so to 2029.

It's his weight of pass that always impresses me, so often just exactly right which shows a real natural talent. I also noticed last night several times he pointed to who his team mate should play it and then positioned himself to receive the next pass. Really controlling the game, but also showing that increased confidence which I think we all agree has been a huge reason for his improvement.

| Madsen on 15:55 - Oct 23 with 1133 views | cheeseydane | My best mate (now deceased) was a fanatic Heerenveen fan and said we had ourselves a great player which I posted on here. Last season he kept telling me that we should be patient and we would soon see his true worth. I trusted my mad dutch friend so said no more on here although I really wanted to defend him sometimes such was the abuse he was getting. I get enough stick from certain posters as it is. R.I.P buddy. You were, as always, totally right. | |

| Madsen on 17:15 - Oct 23 with 1002 views | Beckenhamhoop | We have 2 or 3 players per position across the pitch but I’d say the only position where we’re short (not a team of midgets comment) is in having a player that could replicate Madsen’s role. Varane, Field and Hayden I don’t think have the technical ability or vision to do what Madsen does and it would be a stretch for Morgan to fill his shoes. It’s too much of a deep lying role for Chair, although I think he could make a decent go of it, likewise Vale who would be my pick as his nearest replacement. If Madsen does continue to play as he is and begins to attract interest from other clubs or, God forbid, he gets injured who could replace him? | | | |

He's probably not ready as yet, but just from seeing a little of him and reading about him I wonder if Jaylan Pearman maybe one who could cover for Madsen given time?
| Madsen on 18:00 - Oct 23 with 878 views | NorrisGreen | If JS can rehabilitate the stuttering Varane and then find a way to cure Madsen's tendency to shrivel up when Varane is on the field, we would have a frighteningly good midfield. For now, I'm happy to sit back purring at Madsen's majestic displays. | | | |

Pearman plays as an attacking CM/No 10. In a couple of years Alfie Tuck and Isak Alemayehu may have developed into players who could follow in Madsen's footsteps.

When Morgan came as substitute for Varane, he immediately began to do all the things Varane should have been doing. I could see him doing a good job either, filling for him or playing alongside

Yes, I really like Morgan. It’s a shame to see him on the bench. Maybe a loan out in January might be best…if we can spare him.
