(Delete if someone has already started one)

First away game of the season for me, the wife and my youngest daughter.

I haven't travelled to see a loss.

Mighty R's to win 3-1

Dont know why we bother. .... but we do!

Looked a very tired performance. Derby had an extra day since their last game and played that and today at home so had no travel either. It showed. Think pretty much the same happened in the previous International break too. Where was Dunne today? There was a 10 minute spell 1st half where Madsen played RB, got some help from Cook but Dunne was off screen at least. When he appeared again he looked well off it.

A three-game week, with a 1-1 draw against Millwall, a 1-1 draw at Swansea and a 1-1 draw today. That is effectively what has happened. I'm frustrated tonight, but I would have taken that last Sat morning.

Concerned about Kone, looks like a centre forward who’s getting a little disillusioned that he’s not playing centre forward. Got a mild slating v Swansea but when he pushed up he took two great positions, one Smyth passed into touch, the other even simpler opportunity, Smyth didn’t even get the pass away.

He needs to feel like the main man, we’re draining that from him fast.

Good post.
I think you are absolutely right.

Looking frustrated.

These players of ours are In fact professional athletes, I find It hard to accept that they find It hard to put In a half decent performance twice In the space of what 3-4 days?

Chauffeured here there and everywhere when they are at work, If they are knackered and unable to perform to fitness levels then maybe they should take up scaffolding or trench digging for a way of earning a living.

It isn't though, is it? We got one dismissal-assisted win (which could even then have been a draw at the end, because, as we know, we're not 'efficient'), and two similar, disspiriting defeats. That's why I'm justifiably glum tonight.

I'm with you on this, Ted.

I'm not sure tiredness was an acceptable excuse today, or even a factor.

It's not as if we started out with energy and faded through fatigue.

We were poor from the off - that strikes me as a mental issue.

We weren't nearly good enough in either box, and could/should have lost 0-2.

Only Burrell and Saito for me did OK - and then no more than OK.

The manager doesn't seem to be learning, does he? Worryingly.

Agree with your first two lines but the third seems harsh, the results over the past couple of months have been great and driven by some of the changes he made. Got it wrong today, but has been positive overall

This is true. I have said this before that you know after 5 minutes what kind of performance we will put in. If it is lack lustre and lethargic like today against poor team (Derby, Oxford /SW) we will draw or lose narrowly. If we are that way v a decent team we will get to led (Coventry/Burnley) It seems to be a malaise that effects the entire squad even those like Chair who hasn't played for ages. It has to be attitudinal, there is no other reason. And manager after manager cannot seem to stamp out 'can't be arsed' that seems to descend every few games. Then they will fly out of the traps in other games, Charlton/Stoke for example, for no obvious reason other than they 'fancy it'. We will never be serious play-off contender until we sort it out.

Ted

Not mental,

Not physical,

Not emotional........ but ..

Poor selection and management,

After that, it's down to the players selected and what they do.

But the players selected come first -

Dembele, Frey, and Varanne should not be playing in front of Morgan, Kholli, Hayden.

Dembele is so waste of space - he's lucky to get on the bench, picking up splinters.

Agreed. Againt Swansea they killed time for an hour and had one man advantage. One day's less rest not an excuse for me. And if one or two players are seriously unable to recover in 48 hours then put different players in.

Geez give it a rest. You do my head in. Started on the manger already when we have been going really well. All you do is come on here when we lose, never when winning. Bad tired performance today ,but honestly you can't wait for any manager to fail and only happy when QPR lose.

Well, according to Clive, part of the reason Stephan got the job was how he'd cope with three-game weeks...

Poor and tired performance from most today, Madsen and Mbengue excepted
Didnt play to our strengths and refused to shoot

Only plus for me was hearing Sints' voice on comms again

Onwards to another 3 game week

Greater mental (and physical) tiredness after a 2 day break between games, in comparison to Derby who had a 3 day break and no travel. Its a disadvantage, Shirley.

Just back.

Poor game, we never got started, looked leggy all over the pitch and Derby were well worth the points.

Couldn't get out of our half 1st half and couldn't penetrative them 2nd half with our slow passive passing.

Thought Mbengue was our best player today, he gets Cook out of some much trouble with his pace, but it was a low bar.
Not sure why Madsen and Saito went off, they looked our best and most likely players to make something happen.
Illy looked lively when he came on, Dembele awful, and Kone shouldn't be playing 10.

I need a nap after that.

Agree you could tell after a few minutes we were just not at this game at all. It just didn't look like they fancied it, whereas Derby showed more in the early exchanges and got the goal. Do worry about Dembele looks lost and lightweight at this level. Overall all very lacklustre and let down to a big QPR away support. Carbon copy of last season's game at Derby, we just looked totally out of sorts.

Interestingly, on the Offish, Cook (who tellingly preferred not to engage properly with a direct question about how he felt about the goal) said tiredness/travel definitely wasn't a factor, whereas JS, depressingly, tried to insist it was part of the explanation. I suspect this type of expectation-lowering ('they had 24 more hours to recover than us', 'our players had to sit on a luxury coach for a couple of hours', boo hoo) only started happening within the last 5 years or so. Funny (like a lot of things in modern football) how it was never a mitigating issue before.

It seems to me that for the team to put in a good performance we need them all to be playing at the very top of their ability.
Anything less and we flop.
Better players perhaps can be a bit below their best and still be effective.

Naturally. I completely agree, Oslo.
Advantage to Derby.

But we played on Wednesday and then again on Saturday.
Teams have coped with that for decades.
And the only thing I was wondering about was this: we didn't tire in a way that tired teams do - as the game wore on.
We were chasing shadows from the off.

That's why I'm wondering if the problem was mental - lack of belief, lack of focus, lack of effort, lack of cohesion, lack of care, who knows.

But we were off it from the off.

edit - tidied up the grammar.

A lot of people are banging on about us having played 3 games this week, and how we look tired and jaded.
Didn't Derby play 3 games this week as well, then?
How come they didn't look tired or jaded?

They had 2 home games (us and Norwich) and Oxford away (which they lost) so probably an easier week for them but there is no excusing our performance today.

Surely this is about mentality and whether the team convince themselves they are tired or not. Just look at Coventry. They played 3 games in 8 days before the international break and won all three. They have just played 3 games in 8 days straight after the international break and blow me they have won all three again. No issues of tiredness so presumably Lampard has instilled a winning mentality into them like you only feel tired when you are not winning..

The whole purpose of football is to put the ball in the net so barely mustering a shot to overturn a one goal deficit defeats the object of playing football. If you won't shoot when a goal down then why are you playing this sport? Were we really so tired we cannot kick a ball at the goal or cross a ball into the danger area? If the poor hapless darlings are already knackered before November perhaps they need to find another job which doesn't involve running, kicking a ball or travelling.
