When I lived in Suffolk, the local bus stopped at Darsham station. Passengers would alight and sometimes take a chance and cross the track to the far platform. There was a sign saying Bus Passengers Must Not Cross The Line. One Easter someone changed it to Bun Passengers Must Hot Cross The Line.
To be honest I can eat hot cross buns any which way. Straight out of the packet. Lightly toasted with butter. Lightly toasted with butter and jam. Works well with hummus too.
Fruit flavoured I like toasted and buttered, sometimes with a bit of apricot jam.
I bought some heavily reduced Red Leicester and cheddar flavour from Morrisons just for kicks the other week. Been having them toasted, buttered with Marmite. So wrong, yet so right!
Medium toasted, smothered with ANCHOR butter, the slightest touch of some strawberry or raspberry jam. Double espresso, followed by another double espresso. Breakfast of Champions.
Toasted, however this has caused arguments with the Missus due to the occasional current escaping during toasting causing endless moaning about the 'burning smell'.
As Basil Fawlty once said to Sybil Fawlty, ''what's the point, what's the bloody point''?
My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.
If they are nice and fresh then just buttered with the mid-afternoon cuppa. Not so fresh then toasted with butter and a coffee for elevenses.
Anyone buying the 'gourmet' ones, White Chocolate and Lemon, Apple and Cinnamon, Salted Caramel or whatever can pee off and expect them to be inserted in their anal passage.

100% agree.
My wife will never pick up the six for a £1 pack, she always comes home with the dark/white chocolate, added orange and whatever. I complain and she replies, I thought you liked them.
I do like hot cross buns, normal hot cross buns. Simple.

Adding a slice of cheese should not be a thing.
Don't knock it till you've tried it. It's a trick borrowed from Caribbean spiced bun, again give that a go. Has to be the cheapest, heavily processed cheese mind. I did have a chocolate hot cross bun the other day and gave myself thrid degree burns retrieving the b@stsrd from the toaster.
Broke out in a cold sweat when I saw the words 'lemon curd'. My mum 'force fed' me lemon curd sandwiches for ALL of my 14 school years. That's over 40 years ago - but I'll never forget.

I'm the same with turkish delight. It's all I ate for a week when I had mumps. Can't even look at the stuff now.

Bruh, those memories die hard. My mum made some Ukrainian bullshit for me when I was a kid. Platski or Vereneki or something. Basically dumplings that tasted of flour. I was having THE WORST TIME.
So I told her and she was like 'I've got something for it' and put cottage cheese on there. F*cking cottage cheese. Yeah thanks mum, I'm literally five. That's exactly what I want.
Took one bite and started crying. And that was the last time I ate that bullshit.
BTW - Lidl currently doing 'triple chocolate hot cross buns' for what its worth. They look shit though.

Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore.

I had one of the M&S very cheesy hot cross buns the other day and it wasn’t toasted. It tasted horrible. I sometimes put the ordinary ones in the microwave just to warm them up quicker than toasting but they don’t taste anywhere near as good.
