Wing back and he is supposedly quick (according to a post on X). Definitely an area which needed strengthening.

Decent signing.
Stocking the squad much more preferable to relying on loan players.

Was in Wrexham's squad that won promotion to the EFL (made 9 appearances)
Has made 21 appearances for Fylde since Feb last year
56 games played since 2021. Don't know if he has had injuries or just not been picked. Sorry I'm not excited about this signing. Watch him become player of the season.

Injuries, Fylde fans saying he's a good player but struggles to stay fit. Carlisle have announced the signing of striker Regan Linney from Altrincham, 23 goals in the National League last season. Carlisle clearly mean business

Carlisle are rumoured to be chasing Nick Haughton as well.
Mind you, they’ll have a much bigger budget than Dale.
The Altrincham DOF has just moved there as well. I wonder if he’ll now go back for Newby?

Oh fantastic first player we sign is injury prone. Jim really doesn't do himself any favours does he.

I am unsure about the signing, but I will reserve my judgement, but hopeful he will be good enough. But one question is why did Flyde let him go?

I hopefully McNulty does not repeat the same mistakes of signing lightweight players, I feel we some big strong players especially upfront, players like Rodney and Bird, who can dominate the oppositions defence.

They probably let him go because his contract is up and they have been relegated, meaning they've had to trim their squad.

Or, perhaps his wages were outside their wage structure for playing at a lower level.

Or, maybe they want a different type of player for playing at a lower level.

Who knows? There could be many reasons.

Exactly. And they released Kyron Gordon too, who is now one of our best players.

Listening to his interview he sounds as though he's quite versatile, has pace and can play several positions. He also has experience of playing in this league and the one year contract is sensible. We need a solid squad next season and i have a feeling this fella could be a useful signing. Competition for places can't be underestimated. It's great to see new players arriving at the club but if we're serious about progressing we need to hold onto our best players and thats my major concern over the next couple of months.

I seem to remember initial muttering about Jay Bird’s appearance/scoring record when he signed.
And look how that turned out.

We struggled to keep him on the pitch. There's a reason why players like Jay Bird are loaned out to non league clubs. Unless you can consistently put players on the pitch it doesn't matter how good they are. We can't afford to carry injured players, its wasting the budget and diminishes our clout. A consistently fit Jay Bird is a EFL1 player.

Jay Bird got his foot stood on at Oldham. It wasn't a hamstring or muscles injury - unfortunately those injuries can happen to anyone. He wasn't injury prone at Exeter. Just wasn't getting regular games.

They had a much bigger budget than Dale when they signed a load of players in January and look how that turned out!

I have no opinion either way on this signing. Obviously hoping that he remains injury free in the coming season, but at the same time quite concerned at his injury history over the past few seasons.

Regarding Carlisle signing the likes of Linney and possibly Houghton as well. They already have a very expensively assembled squad (mostly signed by previous Managers ) and were the team with the biggest budget (most Clout for JIM) in L2 last season. So having more cash doesn't always equate to success.

Hopefully, we will address the need to bring in 4 or 5 players who are fit enough and of a decent enough calibre to compete for a first team place here. However, at this level, we will need to supplement the squad with a selection of loan players. It's all about the balance, but our own contracted players need to be fit enough to play a minimum of 30 games a season imho .

I’m probably fixated by the lack of height and strength in the squad, so was hoping I’d read that he was 6ft and loves to get stuck and break up play. Initial vibes are he is not that player. Hoping he has a bit of the David Speedie when it comes to aerial prowess. As TS says he might turn out alright and overall the recruitment has been up to scratch since we got relegated.

I work with a lad who knows Linney and Carlisle along with Bromley were both in for him in January but he didn't want to relocate at the time. I'll find out off my colleague next week if we were in for him this time.

Hosannah has good pedigree at this level and has the experience of promotion with Wrexham, so on paper he's the exact sort of signing that we need.

Seems like Carlisle have quickly figured out that you can escape the National League if you can score enough goals.... I wonder if McN has had the memo? Building a team around a couple of prolific strikers seems like a better plan than building a team without a prolific striker and then trying to find one that fits in...

Our three permanent forwards last season scored 40 league goals between them. Barnet won the league with a forward who got 18 and Kabamba who got 10 before he left. Their second top scorer was ex Oldham midfielder Mark Shelton with 12.

They scored 97 goals in total. Proof that getting goals from all over the pitch puts a team in with a good chance of winning the league.

One of Southend or Oldham will be promoted, both scored less goals than Dale last season.

Chesterfield and Bromley went up the year before with one prolific striker, not a couple.

After Grigg (25 goals), the next highest scorers for Chesterfield had 11 (Naylor & Quigley).

Bromley went up with Cheek (21 goals) followed by Olomola (10 goals).

It's all very easy to say a team need prolific strikers, but finding them is another matter. And given we've released Mitchell, you would expect McNulty to already be on the case (and he probably has been for a few months) for a replacement or two, memo or no memo.

Les Lawrence scored 22 goals for Aldershot in 1984, came to Dale that summer and was sold in November after scoring only 5 times in our colours.

Chris O'Grady joined Dale in August 2009 and scored 22 league goals in our promotion season, more than he had netted in the previous seven campaigns combined.

We need a threat from set pieces and corners. In 2 seasons under McNulty now we've not had one. The opposition goals scored in the play off games show how important aerial threat is. Just look at Dawson in our promotion season - sometimes tight games are won with just 1 cross into a dangerous area.
