Rest of the Championship thread 25/26 on 19:09 - Aug 8 by nix | This is where you start to sound crazy. Phil Beard - who was almost as unsuitable for the role as Nourry - left.. I can see the wariness towards Nourry and agree to some extent but this is just ranting nonsense. More unsuitable than Phil Beard who oversaw the finances where we brought in Rob Green and Cesar in the same transfer window.. Who also spent over £40 million on Granero, Samba, Diakite, Park Ji-Sung, Jenus, Remy and Mbia in said window and didn't mention potential fines and ruinous spending/breaking FFP to Uncle Tony. Hoos may not be perfect either but he reined in the stupid spending and oversaw the construction of the training ground. So slurs about the tennis court are uncalled for. I'm sure you'd call me a Nourrista or some other stupid name when I'm far from it. I'm nervous about this season and am on the fence. But some of the 'touch of the night-style posts', extreme exaggeration and totally unbalanced assessments scream out to be questioned'. |
Ruben personally oversaw the construction of the training ground. Which makes sense given he was putting in 20m + of his own money. But neither of these two things are the sign of an absent or disinterested owner. At the same time, Hoos is definitely still running the show day to day, alongside his protege and sidekick Nourry, who he has, and will continue to protect at all costs. Edit: was meant to be in response to Lassels post. [Post edited 8 Aug 20:57]

And despite CN acknowledging that and saying we need more physically strong, athletic players other than Varane I don’t really see any evidence of that particularly in midfield and up front.

Yeah, with physicality being all the rage, I thought we'd sign a couple of midfield monsters this window and I'm really surprised we haven't (yet)

Physically we are so far behind . That worries me tomorruw . No Jimmy and Preston ain’t up to much , but they will try to bully us especially up front .

It’s the balance I keep talking about. Not every signing needs to be a someone we are looking to sell for millions in a couple of years. Some signings need to be for the here and now. And some signings are needed to protect and support those younger lads you’re buying with potential to sell for £££. It’s why Cook, Field, Dunne, are so critical to this team, but I don’t think we have enough of that profile a) to get the best results today, but b) to create the right environment to develop the young lads we’ve signed with a view to making a big profit on. It is the Championship. It is always rudimentary. It is always physical. Note Birmingham’s call came from Ipswich faffing about and the keeper being forced to go long when Ipswich were out of shape to handle it. And Ipswich’s pen came from a set piece. Neither goal involved much technicality. It was BOS winning a big header. It was a half decent corner to the back post. Basics. All game Birmingham pressed brilliantly. More basics. You need to have those basics covered, and then you earn the right to play, and let your little creative players do their thing.

This. 90 minutes into the season and I already fkin hate Birmingham! Running around kicking everyone then incredulous when called on it. Fans chucking stuff at the ref. Entitled bollocks. Game was way too much for the ref, failure to hand out some obvious yellows was always going to lead to the late mayhem. Thanks to Dykes for a comedy ending. F*ck Tom Brady.
