We just spent a season of Moore's wages on Burrell's transfer- never mind HIS wages. Burrell may turn out to be the signing of the season, but right now I know which one I'd rather. 5 days before the new season starts and we don't even know if we will have a striker on the pitch - bloody joke.

He scored FIVE goals last season. And that's playing for a play off team.

I'd rather be developing our own players with potential upside and hunger. If we can get an experienced striker for half those wages then yes. Otherwise we'd be going backwards to that stupid Johanssen/Austin season.

Akpom was absolutely woeful while at Ajax. Clearly a level (or two) above his capabilities. Will probably do well at BCFC.

He was one of the Mislintat buys that almost ruined Ajax and will take a couple of years to recover from. They spent I think 110m euros on absolute crap players and now they (a) are short of quality to compete at the levels they are used too, (b) don't have money left to find better replacements and (c) are stuck with these palookas on long expensive contracts. Trying to offload whoever they can for whatever they can get.

They tried a QPR there.

I took my daughter to her very first Ajax game at that time, the big home clash vs Feyenoord. Game was abandoned after crowd through stuff on te pitch in protest and Mislintat was fired soon after.

Seems like Akpom's agent has played a blinder.
He's played Birmingham off against Middlesboro and Ipswich ..
Three teams fighting for his signature and Ipswich now in pole position...

For Chuba Akpom to be getting the moves he's getting and making the money he's making he must have just about the best agent in the game.

If it pleases the court, one would introduce the evidence of a Mr O. Kakay….

Those players above at least can be classified as footballers. niko hamalainen’s agent has managed to earn his client a living playing football football and has travelled the world doing it.

But you are missing the point I made Nix
Firstly 5 goals would make him our 2nd top scorer! But more to the point it's what he brings to the table in terms of nuance and experience. This should bring the other strikers along, particularly Celar and Kolli. You call that Austin/Johansen season 'stupid', but nobody would argue about the benefit and positive impact they had the previous season..
it's all academic now regarding Moore, but my main point is that brining in a whole bunch of young players with little or no Championship experience does not necessarily guarantee the success of ' buy cheap develop and sell for a profit 'model. Inevitably, like last season these players will struggle and consequently the team will struggle If you sprinkle this with some experienced heads then the younger players will develop faster, become more valuable economically and the team finishes higher up the table.

Isn't that what Michi Frey should be doing then? 31 years old, 18 months at this level has shown he has the know-how to play very effectively in this division. Years of playing in challenging environments in Turkey, Belgium, Germany etc should have helped with that. plus he has the added bonus of having moved to this division from abroad so knows what it takes to settle for these new lads? Job done, don't need to spend 30k a week or whatever on a bloke who only ever does it for Wales these days

Yeah, a weird person to pick on. I don't know what his wages were but I can't imagine they were the ones tipping us over.

He'll be playing in Europe this season with a Slovakian side by the way.

This is potentially a great buy for the money for Norwich. I wonder what game time he'll get.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c70xe5n27p8o

Im gonna compare this to the Burrell signing. Same sort of money yet Makama is 3 years younger. I watched him quite a bit last year and hes fast and clinical 2 good feet. Can look disinterested sometimes but starting to believe more in his own ability.

I would say a great buy at this level.

Maybe Norwich will be one of the dark horses this year.
Sainz and Rowe have gone for big money and Sargent should be off as well.
If they use the moniesxdeceived to buy some decent defenders, they could easily make the playoffs.

Appreciate he is young and can develop but currently he's a striker who scored 7 in 38 last season, when Lincoln finished 11th, whereas Burrell 11 in 30, when Burton finished 20th.
Although he is younger, our need is for someone ready to slot straight in.

Yea i appreciate that, Burrell is probably more physical, although why he didnt get a runout at the weekend against Brentford is a mystery when we had no strikers.

I just think this lad has potential and it really was a break out season for him, he was not expecting to be a regular, but some of the play he made and goals he scored meant you really had to play him as he could produce a goal/goal threat from nothing.

Yes, theoretically you are right, which is why I didn't include him as someone who could learn off the likes of Moore. I suppose though if you were comparing the Championship experience of Frey (especially allowing for all his injuries) to the likes of Moore or Austin for example the latter 2 would be streets ahead.
My main point is that we shouldn't be afraid to add in some short term ability in order to improve the team and consequently bring along younger players in their development. Fair enough if Moore is actually on 30k then that is quite a stretch, but in theory the addition of him, Birdwell and Hayden would go along way to addressing the three most problematic areas of our team and this would allow - not block - our younger players to develop.

Bidwell was bloody awful with the best I can say about him being “always available”

Kenneth I liked and saw a lot of plus’s
Did get a bit “phoning it in” after the club tried to move him on

"Bidwell was bloody awful".

You've blown your cover, L Block, you are actually Joel Lynch in disguise, aren't you?

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

See where you are coming from and clearly we need a mix but that would be 3 out of 11 places in the team right there with zero sell on value. Plus with that experience it would mean a much higher wage bill which in turn means we could sign far fewer young players (and with young players its something of a numbers game as only a proportion will go on to be sellable assets). In any organisation there will be people making often rational cases to spend a shed load of money: but the CEO has a finite budget and realises that spending on A means you have less to spend on B.

I am also concerned that if Cook is out we have very few leaders in this team and we could struggle this season. But I honestly think Nourry would take an 18th place finish with a bumper transfer sale than a 12th place finish and no additional revenue from sales.

And frustrating as that approach is to us fans who have to sit through painful defeats, for the medium to longer term development of the club - he ain't necessarily wrong.

I don't think the two are mutually exclusive. We should be targeting the play-offs and decent cup runs every season. Fair enough if we don't get there but what is the point of having low expectations? It's deja vu for me - Les and co saying we were going to become a development club for the previous decade so it was okay for the development squad to lose 10-0 every week. It's bullshit and has created a losing mentality at the club with little appetite for challenging ourselves. It's easier to develop players in a winning team - Brentford got that right by challenging every season, selling players and then going again. Just like comparing Kelman's stats with Burrell's - yes, he was in a play-off team but then he was contributing to them being a play-off team too. Success breeds success.

He’s played less than 100 professional games and he’s 28 years old. And most of those appearances were with us quite a few years ago. You picked on Kakay, a player whose attitude can never be questioned. Maybe Niko is a fantastic player but his attitude and effort to put in a challenge was shocking….based on games I saw him in. His appearances or lack of them for a 28 year old would support that.

Really don't understand why Hämäläinen and especially Kakay are constantly snarked at and belittled here, two years after they left the club: two former QPR youth players who have forged careers as professional footballers to the best of their abilities and as far as I'm aware have never bad-mouthed the club. I mean, Lassel: Ossie Kakay scored an away winner at Stoke for QPR. How about you?

I'd be very impressed if two of last year's much celebrated DS players are still playing professional/international football at 28.

We can’t criticise anyone who played for us? Think of amount of abuse that Smyth gets or Madsen. What about Furlong at the beginning. That’s just football. We can’t be nice about all players!

Same.

Ainsworth too.

Players and managers who were bad but not malicious should get a bit of grace in my opinion. We have plenty who were both.
