Yeah very impressed with Akindeleni. Needs an Eze/Chair loan where he goes and plays 30 odd games at L2, especially given CB is one of the few areas we have options. But very impressed on first viewing, has all the attributes to play at a high level

He looks class and only 17. They are going to have to look after him as he will play at the highest level.

The amount of teenagers we have pushing through is pretty amazing.

Yes agreed, very pleased with Chair and Morgan, very calm, very quick.

Poku (not sure about spelling),Looks very good, and very quick , settled quickly, Sutton as we know is bloody quick and got involved straight away.
This can't be right? New players look good? Team settles quickly, very worried.

You've just watched the end of the Field/Varane partnership in midfield.
Morgan will play 8, competing with Tuck, next to either Field or Varane. Exactly the way it should be. Both Morgan and Tuck get the ball forward and anyone who watched the DS against Brentford knew these two would be playing a part in the 1st team.
Only concern is the RB slot if Dunne gets injured. I know we are interested in Alfie Gilchrist, wonder if we might make a move?

Gotta laugh at some of the comments on here after the last game. 🤣

If JS has indeed watched all last seasons games then he should know that Field and Varane in the same team was arguably at the root cause of many of our problems. Morgan made a big impact in turning around the play last year and, being a year older and that bit more experienced, he should start the season as one of the first names on the teamsheet.

With Varane’s lack of pre season minutes I’d play Morgan at the base of a three man central midfield with Chair and Vale.

I don't think we should play without one of Varane and Field starting. One or the other, possibly, but not both. The hairy hulks of the Championship would beat up a midfield three of Morgan, Chair and Vale.

Agree. I've been pulling my hair out watching Field and Varane together, but you definitely need one in there; they do the horrible stuff to allow Morgan or Tuck to get that ball forward. Vale or Chair at 10.

I'm so happy 😊 we have youngsters playing forward and others with pace.

You want Varane AND Field? Well I suppose it depends what kind of football you want to watch when we’re in possession. Personally I’ve had enough of backwards and sideways passing or the occasional aimless hoof upfield.

No, that's not what I said. I think we'll need one of them starting.

Where they might play together could be with, say, Chair doing what he did today in coming deep, collecting the ball and then passing or moving forward. That midfield three might be an option for a difficult away game.

I fear we still don't have the players for two in the middle. Hope that doesn't become very clearly the case after 5 or 6 games with few points.

We've got one of them. In fact we've got two of one of them, but we haven't got the other one. Not even one of the other one.

Morgan should be the understudy to the one we don't have, but it seems a risk to put it all on him at this point.

I agree. When Varane got up and running in the Championships properly after coming back from suspension in late October we had a really good run until Field got injured in January and Varane missed some matches in March too when things went downhill.

It's exciting having some attack minded midfielders but many of the Champ teams have wily/physical midfielders so you need a balance.

Not having seen the game, this sounds quite promising.

Scoring a pen and hitting the post will be good for Celar's confidence, and whatever people think of him unless we sign a decent striker he is going to have to be in the mix. He's an international with a good record in a decent league who we reportedly paid a decent wedge for, we can't afford to just bin him off - at very least we want to get our money back when we sell him.

If Kelman looks more impressive then that's even better - Kelman to start and Celar as cover.

Those missing from the game include Nardi, Morrison and Richards. I wonder if we'll be told why.

Nardi & Richards were unused subs alongside Salamon & Hassan.

The period when we had success last season was with a 4-3-3.

Morgan, Varane and Field all played together.

We then went back to 2 and we fell apart. Why we can’t accommodate three of our better players each game remains a mystery to me. We even have some capable subs to replace and rotate them and a couple of defenders that could easily step into midfield.

Seems like a very simple solution.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

You can not play progressive front foot football with Field AND Varane in the same team. Last season showed it didn't work. Today, you saw how we could play.

Field and Varane are not our better players, they are destroyers, and good at it. To win games you need to score so we need the ball going forward not sideways and backwards. It will be one or the other. If they both play it will mean it's gone horribly wrong again.

Destroyers are still better players at the position they play. Short memories but Varane last game of last season was immense and no comparison to the beginning of the season. We need him and his long destroyer legs, great to have options. Enjoyed the match, Toulouse do play a higher level than the Spanish team so really encouraging. Treatment room still busy imagine if ever they all were fit.

I didn’t see all the game but I saw most of it.

Chair looks bang up for it.
I’ve liked Tuck since the first time I saw him - hopefully he’ll do bits this season but that aside; I think he has a grrrrreat future ahead of him.
This Poku fella looks like he could be fun, here’s hoping, on the other side I’m a big fan of Smyth and that remains the case.

Now then….
The keeper Walsh. Mmmmmmmmmm, concerns me and, more importantly, I think he concerns those playing in front of him.
Dembele is reinforcing my ā€œnot for meā€ vibes every single time I see him play. My hunch is he’ll spend most of his time with us either injured or flattering to deceive
Strikers - doff my cap to Celar as what I saw he actually looked interested. I didn’t think Kelman did much but would stress I missed a chunk of the second half.
My overriding concerns remain the lack of pace, physique and goals.
So…… same as it ever was

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Never knowingly right.

Good man bosh fair play for the upload.
Horrible pitch and pretty much agree on the kit not looking great to be honest I would be really frightened to see it on me or other non athletes .
Dirty enough game from those highlights and nice to see Smyth get up fighting and Sam not letting it go either .
Poor penalty from Celar a more solid hand and it was saved but it meant a lot to him .
Still a big improvement in 6 days it looks like
