Second look at them this season. We need to.get used to these performances because if we are going to keep winning at home the no pressing tactic will be used against us in almost every game. It never got the pulse racing at any stage. Have to say McBride has more about him than I thought last season. He certainly fully occupies opponents. Whatmuff is looking fine, good handling and imposes himself.
To be honest Sutton deserved a point on the balance of play. We will play much better and lose.
It’s a result oriented business and we got it.
Odd but I am subdued and we are lying second, what’s up with me?

Decent first half. Second half was a shambles really, lost our shape and second best to everything. Very fortunate that Sutton were so poor. The performance today was miles away from what we saw last Wednesday. A excellent three points though to finish what has been a crazy Bank Holiday weekend if you are a Dale fan.

What's wrong, Jim McNulty.

We may still have lost against Brackley but one ridiculous decision, has sucked the enthusiasm out of a large part of the fanbase.

Why?

I’ve given my opinion on the game.

What was yours about what you saw today?

Please almost bullying someone who basically agrees with you. It doesn't do you any favours at all, . Sutton were scared to death but almost scraped a point. YD and no doubt are as entitled as you as you feel you are.

We were lucky to win based at the second half . and it all comes down to Saturdays stupid decision from Jim. A draw would not have been unfair to them based on our our second half showing.

The atmosphere around the ground was awful today,. despite our good start.

Fear there will remain an issue unless McNulty chooses to address it. But I don’t think he will.

The feeling of how unnecessarily disruptive it was is tangible.

Was the enthusiasm genuine if one loss zapped it from the fanbase

It wasn’t so much the loss, more the decision around changing the entire team.

There was a big hangover from Jim's ridiculous selection on Saturday and it had a negative effect on today. We were somewhat fortunate to win despite a descent first half.

I don't like you (whether you realise it or nor) thinking that you have some sort of superior viewpoint to the rest of us. Guess what? You don't.

May be one for TVOS, but has any team ever fielded 22 changes to the first team over 2 consecutive league games, it def can't be beaten just wondering if its ever been matched.

Think there was someone on Twitter who posted something about a team never changing the full XI from one league game to the next - that was in the football league. Will try and find it, but it popped up after Saturday.

If true, we were the first and now the second too. In the space of three days.

Looking at the fixtures,by early October we will know whether the managers slightly passive aggressive actions where a master stroke or served no purpose and merely hindered our progress.

It's early doors, and we are doing great and on target barring the fookup Saturday. For me the signs are there ; we seem to have squad cohesion and team spirit. But if we if we are going challenge this season, Jim needs to be ruthless and attacking In his team selection, forget about respect. Die on our sword. I need to see great performances against Carlisle , Southend and Hartlepool to have confidence its going to be our season.

How could it be a masterstroke...we lost the game against a part time team. The worst possible outcome. Surely we could have expected more than 3 points from the last two games given the opposition (and our form going into the weekend).

Dropping 3 points by willingly chucking them away can only EVER be considered 'hindering our progress', it was absolutely insane at the time it will be exactly the same at the end of the season and it will be equally as ridiculous a stunt anytime his names mentioned in the future.

After ‘can we play you every week’ v Gateshead, it’s ‘thanks we’re not playing you til Easter’ for Sutton.

I can see how they drew v York and can see if they adopt that style they may take points from other more fancied teams too.

Firstly they set out to stop us playing. Afore-mentioned man-marking (literally) of Barlow, tight marshalling of Mani by their big lad.

Secondly, they used their strengths to the fore. Obviously they had the long throw in, but it was what happened after it was cleared (invariably by Mani) - they flooded the back post of whichever side the ball wasn’t on and it was pumped back into their time and again.

They adopted the PSG kick-off strategy at start of the second half and got an early corner from it. Second effort after the goal was more Jonny Vegas than Jonny Wilkinson in execution.

They never stopped attacking at 1-0 and it’s to great credit that our defence stood firm. Horrible team to play against and full credit to them for getting that label from me.

The goal was similar to the first of the season opener at Borehamwood. Mcbride into on-rushing Gilmour, cut-back from by-line, Mani with sharp finish.

As always hope knocks are just that and quickly recovered.

Great 3 points all said and done.

One last thought.

8 second rule - when defending a 1-0 win.

Couple of times towards the end when Whatmuff claimed the ball. Dale were in last season mode, slowly making their way out from defence which resulted in kicks straight back to the oppo.

This new rule is really effective in that stage of the game. Like it myself.

Scrapped for a win and got one.
Conversations before and after the game were filled with bemusement regarding last Saturday's bewildering team selection.
Reverting to the title of this thread, I hope no other team has to endure a second half of bare faced, almost deliberate incompetence from this referee again. He was inconsistent beyond words.

Agree, the ref, as is standard in this division, was terrible. A more blatant yellow when their big CM was late and struggling through the back of East, you will never see.

As for the game, the atmosphere in the ground, rather than being optimistic and joyful, was nervous and angry. How a manager can achieve that when you’ve won 4/5 of your first games is remarkable and it should send strong signals to the board.

The thing is, that atrocious decision at the weekend isn’t going away, because however we look at the table now, which we know will be incredibly tight at the end of the season, we know we threw points away due to Mcnulty’s ineptitude. Yes I’m still annoyed about it. For me, bigger than the c*ck up itself of the team selection, clearly insane given its unprecedented nature across the football league, is his attitude about it afterwords. If he’d just confirmed it was a mistake and that it won’t happen again, that would really help the fanbase. But he’s aloof, and doesn't come across as someone capable of learning from their mistakes.

Bromley
Spennmoor
Southend
Brackley

We were lucky to scrape a win today. I’m glad we did. I thought we played well in most of the first half. Gordon in particularly I think is a great player. TAR needs to produce more consistently, and I’d say TA is also too hit and miss currently.

Not sure how Mani D got MOTM, others (Pritchard, Whatmuff, Beckwith, HG) didn’t put a foot wrong.

As others have said, we haven’t really played the tough teams yet this season - the real test of how good we are with be v Southend, Hartlepool, Forest Green, Carlisle and York. We need to play better against them than we have played the last 2 games to demonstrate improvement from last season despite the huge squad he has been given.

That he’s won such a large % of his games as manager and the jury is still out on Mcnulty says everything. That said, I don’t want him gone as we have a terrible record of replacing managers and the squad has been built with his tactics in mind.

Excellent summary, we did defend well and Sutton utilised the tools they had at their disposal. It's early days yet with Watmuff and i've made my views known about young loan keepers but i thought yesterday his handling and positioning was very good. My worries about having a 17yr old in the net are easing, obviously he will make the odd mistake but he's the most composed young keeper i've seen and i already rate him better than any we had on loan last season, no histrionics does the basics right. You can see the defenders trust him also. A final word for Moss when he came on as substitute, he got stuck in and made a good contribution.

3 points was everything yesterday so well done Jim and the players for that.

Saturday hangs around like a bad smell but we all need to crack on and get behind the management team and players.

Two simple first half chances fell to Pritchard and then Rodney. Neither hit the target..

Same on Saturday (now found the heart to watch) with Allarakhia.. 3 times does well, finds space cuts inside and sends a curling shot into the top... erm over the stand. We really need to hit the target more from these opportunities.

Great finish from Mani early in the second half.. Then we settle back and Sutton will think themselves very unfortunate not to have at least a point.

Dale now have a point more than last year having played one game less. The Sutton performance was miles off the Gateshead one but 3 points non the less.

Looking forward to Saturday again now lets see if we can banish the Brackley memory and take all the points at Wealdstone.

Looking at the ominous strength of some of the teams in this league (eg Southend, Carlisle, FGR, York) then I think that we have to try and win EVERY game. No pussyfooting around being happy with drawn away games because we dominated possession.
The NL this season could well be a repeat of 2/3 years ago when Wrexham, Notts County and Chesterfield were all slugging it out and 100 points didn’t guarantee automatic promotion.
