Mbengue - a potential liability 13:42 - Sep 21 with 3425 viewsMyke

For the second game out of the five he has played, Mbengue was lucky to stay on the pitch. Even if all he had got for the Pearson 'tackle' was a yellow he would gave gone later, for manhandling a Stoke player to the ground, when it was still 0-0. If one of our players was on the receiving end of what happened to Pearson, we would have been incensed at the ref's call.
A couple of years ago we used to complain about Dickie being too 'handsy' and how is cost us in certain games. Compared to Dickie, Mbengue us closer to Samba Diakite's gbh 'style' of play.
I am reading about him being 'fun' to watch and about his strength and athleticism. All of these may be true, but if the "clumsiness' isn't coached out of him, only a matter of time before he costs us goals and points. We were warned about this by Reading fans, so the club should have done due diligence on this. Over to you Mr. Bould.

I quite like him, he's mad and is gonna get some red cards but he had a good game again and if he was perfect he wouldn't be here

That foul given as a drop ball is up there as one of the worst decsions I have ever seen, looked a clear red card to me

Mbengue, for me, is the sort of nutter that ends up being a cult hero. He seems to have that 'Are you not entertained..?!' vibe about him.

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

Agreed, have you also considered the impact of BOFA?

Potential liability, potential box office. Hopefully he takes someone’s head clean off at some point. Proper defender.

Myke, the club will have done due diligence and decided he was a good player and the good outweighed the band.
I was at the match, haven't seen a replay, and thought the ref called it correctly. As said on another thread, you could hear the noise of the ball being squashed between Mbaniac 😁and Pearson.
The yellow card he did get was close to where we were and we couldn't see any obvious foul. The ref was getting a bit card happy by then. Think he was pretty pissed off at Stoke and the match in general being a bit feisty.

Sky Sports and the ITV4 Highlights didn't include the 50/50 challenge.

Any links, ahead of the full replay via the official extended replay.

Every project needs an element of out of the box thinking.

He has above the median line potential to be out of a quite crazy box.

He's a huge character and he plays on the edge. He must be terrifying to play against and he's actually quite skilful in a Bambi on ice kind of way. You can see how extravert and positive he is off the field in training and away from the games. He's the Duracell Bunny really. Yes he will be a liability but I actually think that very edge that he plays on will be coached out of him a bit in terms of his role as a team player. He is very much a team player. Just need to keep him on the pitch. Although he was a much more serious character I remember Gavin Maguire being a similar type of player, tackling right on the edge. Unfortunately Gavin struggled with injuries but whenever he did play we had a lot more metal on the pitch.

By the way, the tackle on Ben Pearson should have been a straight red. Astonished it wasn't and I am sure Stephan will have a word with Mbengue to make sure that doesn't happen again.

The impact of which is exacerbated by the involvement of Ligma

I haven’t seen a replay but I thought it was a fair 50/50 challenge and Pearson tried to con the ref into a sending off. It was the one decision the ref got right all afternoon.

It was a yellow for the Pearson foul all day.
He is crackers in that Taye Taiwo sort of way.

He will get sent off if hes not careful though. Best he sorts it out now while he has been lucky.

zzzzzzzzzz

I love his game. Yes, he is going to pick up cards and wll get his marching orders, but that is risk that is worth taking to get us out of jail at times. Additionally, these days you organise a team so that if you go down to ten then you shoud still be able to get whatever points you have got on the board at that stage of the game.

We've needed a character like him for years A genuine nutter who'll spill blood for the club. Love him. No one's taking liberties with us anymore and I'm all for it

Has anyone seen a replay? Sky Sports didn't seem to think it warranted inclusion in the highlights. There's a photo online which could photo shopped for all we know.

Until I see it again, in real time and then slow motion, it's hard to know how bad it was. The ref also seemed well placed and reassured Jimmy that no action was going to be needed.

He’s only been sent off once in his career so it suggests he knows to play on the edge or to rein it in when needed.

He'll see red for sure on occasions but it's worth it for what he's bringing to this team both in ability and spirit. A quality nutter.

Myke, have a day off FFS

He is full on, totally committed and an athlete who is prepared to give his all.

Due diligence was done and that is why is is a QPR Player, the type we need.

Mbengue is definitely a character and much like diakete moments of brilliance and reckless ness in equal measures. He will defo get sent off at some stage or give away some penalties,
but we have cover now so enjoy the ride gents.

I watched the stream, and saw the replay.. many times! I thought it was a red, and he was lucky not to even get a yellow! Even Tyler and Cookie on comms were shocked by the non decision/card.

He/we were VERY lucky. No doubt about it!

Just checked.

1 red in 142 games!

Maybe they are slipping him something in his tea

Only sw it live half a pitch away, but I was convinced that a) he got the ball and b) that he'd still be sent off for the follow through.

Listen, back in the day those were the tackles to live for, but not now. Whether people like it or not, the gameme has changed and that was violent conduct, so he should have gone.

The ref made yet another bizarre decision- drop ball, for that? Either foul and stop the game or play on. Then he bought both captains over for a chat - why? We lucked out there.

On the yellow he did get, another truly baffling decision on my one sighting at the game. Attacker initiates contact when the ball was nowhere near by backing in to the defender and turning him. Yes Amadou pulls him back, but after he's been pushed in to being the wrong side.

As I say, for a Premier League ref, Robinson was awful.

Can we go out yet?
