Rest of the Championship thread 11:07 - Aug 10 with 338046 views | Hunterhoop | Toyed with this idea last season. Shall we have a thread to discuss, comment on, cover the rest of the league? A place to discuss other teams’ results, performances, financial implosions, etc? For example, last night, anyone catch either of the first two games? I didn’t. But somewhat surprised/worried Blackburn scored 4 given how they are meant to struggle. Was it Derby being utter sh*te? Sounds like Preston are continuing in the same vein of being incredibly dull. Clive, what do you think? Worth making a sticky? Might reduce the number of threads to manage.

We've got little chance of competing with them, really. Nor do many others. But if they persist in their hiring policy of ageing, bigger names - they will, with any luck, come unstuck in the higher divisions. Maybe.

How can ffp allow them to spend that sort of money on one player? They must’ve spent a fortune last season getting promoted,so they must be overspending their income.

I think I read somewhere their income will be bigger than all Championship clubs other than relegated ones - sponsors, shirts, US....

Per Companies House, their turnover in 2023/24 was basically the same as ours, with them playing in League Two. A loss of £2m compared to our £13m. Very likely that's gone up in the meantime. The celebrity owners are throwing money at it, but as you say, it also helps with the kind of income generation from sponsorships and shirt sales that QPR could only dream of. Can't see United Airlines and Meta/Facebook queueing up to sponsor us.

You wouldn't want to be a tea cup in the Sheffield United dressing room when Wilder trudges in! Sunderland are promoted.

Yet one day their Hollywood owners will walk away. Just because you spend the most on wages, signing players and basically throwing your cash around doesn't guarantee success. What other clubs have tried that...............
