Charlie Kelman’s Leyton Orient 12:00 - Feb 8 with 142872 viewsDannyPaddox

Up against Man City in the FFS that was offside FA Cup. I prepare to stand corrected but I think Charlie is still our player but as I take as much interest in modern football players contracts and transfers as I do in mobile phone contracts I could be wrong. Either way seems like a good lad and having a decent season with a club I like so up the O’s!

Up against a central defender today in Ruben Dias who’s worth approx £75 mil … would love to see Charlie meg him.

You'd imagine Charlton will have to much for Orient if they get past Wycombe.
Hope the O's do it. Much rather do an away day there than Charlton... again

Yeh Orient didn't look like they had much left in their legs last night to me, particularly our boy.

Stockport missed two absolute sitters in the last minutes of normal and extra time.

Not if you saw any of the first match between those two!

It made our home game against Cardiff look like the most thrilling ever and full of scintillating football!

Crystal Palace v West Ham 2004.

A teenage Wayne Routledge, Mikele Legsofwood and Andy Johnson on the winning side for Palace. Ben Watson and Dougie Freedman were unused subs and Iain Dowie was Manager.

Bob Z on the losing side for a change had one chalked off for offside for West Ham with Steve Lomas also starting. Rufus Brevett was on the bench

Watford v Palace is not a London derby. There’s been only 2 previous London derby play-off finals - both Championship. West Ham v Palace as mentioned previously by Cate LB and in 2020 Fulham v Brentford. There’s never been a Lg 1 or Lg 2 all London final.

Verging on hate speech associating Watford with Londoners.

We can hope that one day we will see a Watford v Hitchin Town play-off Final but as yet Watford have never been involved in a derby in one of these finals

Hitchin supporters wouldn't regard Watford as a derby, and vice versa probably. Luton would be the Yeller Boys big local duel.

Southampton urged to pursue Kelman.

Normally Orient v Charlton I wouldn't mind either way. But Nathan Jones is an absolute weapon, the way he was playing to the camera at the end of the game last night.

Yep. Swapping a future England centre back for a bloke with one good goalscoring season in League 1. I like Kelman, I hope he starts the season with us, there is no way Southampton would be that daft.

You forget, Soton signed a chancer who had never played a pro game in his life back in the day. They have form.
The (Short) Story Of Ali Dia And The Greatest Con In Premier League History

At 31, Ali Dia fooled Southampton into his first appearance in the Premier League. He had never played a professional game before and he definitely wasn’t George Weah’s cousin.

Our story starts in 1996, when Graeme Souness managed Galatasaray.

After winning the Turkish Cup final, Souness grabbed his team’s flag and planted it in the centre of Fenerbahce’s home field.

Angry “moustached” men chased him down the tunnel and Souness was met with a clamp to the head by a home fan.

It was at that moment that Souness decided to return home and have another crack at managing in the Premier League. This time, at Southampton.

At the time of his arrival, Premier League clubs were receiving calls from a mystery man.

“I keep getting phone calls at the training ground from a guy called ‘Georgie Weah’,” West Ham manager Harry Redknapp recalls. “Lovely George, you wanna play for West Ham?”

“No, I have another player for you. My cousin, Ali Dia.”

“This is a wind-up.” Redknapp hangs up.

On the same day, Gillingham manager, Tony Pulis took the bait: “I was shocked to receive a call from someone claiming to be George Weah, recommending his cousin.”

“...we gave the lad a trial and he was rubbish.”

Dia failed to impress in his trials at Rotherham, Bournemouth and Gillingham. He decided to head south and try his luck with Southampton.

Things weren't going to plan for Souness. So when he received a call from 'George Weah' introducing his 'cousin', he thought his luck had changed.

“He has played with George Weah at Paris Saint-Germain. When someone like that gives you a recommendation you sit up and take notice,” Souness said.

Dia’s luck also began to take a turn. Despite scepticism around who this mystery man was, Dia impressed at his trials.

Southampton decided to take a punt and offered him a one-month trial.

Dia made his break-through into the squad against Leeds in November 1996. His moment came after 32-minutes, when club-legend Matt Le Tissier came off injured.

While chasing a two-nil lead, Souness subbed on ‘George Weah’s’ cousin to change their fate.

“Graeme put him on and he was f**king hopeless,” remembers Le Tissier. “We were like: ‘What’s this geezer doing?"

The 31-year-old Senegalese played 53 minutes in the top-flight and achieved a remarkable 100% shot accuracy.

They lost two goals to nil.

“He came in for treatment on Sunday morning. He was told to report again on Monday, and he did a runner.” Le Tisser concludes.
