Charlie Kelman’s Leyton Orient 12:00 - Feb 8 with 143075 viewsDannyPaddox

Up against Man City in the FFS that was offside FA Cup. I prepare to stand corrected but I think Charlie is still our player but as I take as much interest in modern football players contracts and transfers as I do in mobile phone contracts I could be wrong. Either way seems like a good lad and having a decent season with a club I like so up the O’s!

Up against a central defender today in Ruben Dias who’s worth approx £75 mil … would love to see Charlie meg him.

What was your point then? If it wasn’t about anyone at the club having any time to assess Kelman it was therefore just an attempt to shoehorn in another dig at the inexperienced DOF.

It was a very simple one, actually. Waiting until the season starts isn't a smart thing to do because if he starts poorly then his price will have fallen. Hence the need to make that decision now. I don't know about you, but I want qualified, competent people making these decisions.

It’s odd because Celar and Kelman are very similar in style , build , speed and attributes. Both really don’t want to get involved too much until the ball is played into the box .

Both completely different to the striker our style of play has required , not just in the first team but watching a little of the Dev squad too.
So do we adjust our way of playing slightly to get the best out of a pair of strikers who have potential to know where the goal is at this level, or will we just watch them flounder and seem uninterested according to the club’s ‘methodology’ and be calling them both useless ( I know I was ) after 3 games of next season ?

Hate to go over old ground but it brings into question again why Celar was brought in knowing how we were going to play and set up and who made that disjointed decision ?

Our main priority for me if affordable, is a big, strong, hold-up type traditional striker who can feed balls into space in the box for the likes of Kelman, Celar, Koli maybe and can score a few himself. He'd need to have some pace, an upgrade on Dykes if you like with Frey as back-up if he's staying for next season. But as you say that would need a "tweak" to the favoured methodology.

It's not all about the goals he has scored though. We have to bring him in at the start of pre-season and evaluate him. He may work out, he may not. I do not profess to have seen too much of him this season, but I have watched a couple of games including today's one and I just don't see much there that would endear him to me.

Yes, the goals are really important and the tally is massively impressive, but he doesn't seem to be involved enough in the game. Not a big presser, not a target man as he doesn't seem to hold up particularly well and isn't any presence defensively.

But. The. Goals.

Got to try him, got to have everything crossed that I am wrong, but from what I have seen, it is no shoe in that he will solve our long standing goalscoring issues.

I can think of 23 reasons, and counting, why he should be given his chance next season. He has clearly acquired the knack to score goals by getting himself into dangerous scoring areas through his improved anticipation.

Nobody held Ryan Hardie in high regard before Plymouth's promotion. Yet he went on to score 13 and 10 league goals, respectively, in his two seasons at championship level. Kelman has scored more goals than Hardie did when he last played in division one. The portents are promising, he's earned the right to be given a proper opportunity next season.

We need to try and extend his contract very soon to increase his valuation. If he only has a year left then it will be much lower.

We spent a transfer fee on this guy, and four years of wages.
We sent him out on a development loan, he's developed.
Your other strikers are absolute fcking toilet.
Very excited to see what we do next.

Needs to be playing for us next year and have a manager who says your playing in your natural position for at least 5 games straight no matter what
The poor lad has never been given a real run of games here and I can’t see a BOS / Manning situation this time next year

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

I didn't catch the pre-match interview but saw mentioned that Wellens said a deal for Kelman would be sorted un the next week. Would be odd if we sold to Orient as can't imagine they'd be paying what has been touted on here - I'm in the keep and see how he goes camp but couldn't begrudge him wanting to move after four years here though a shame to not see if he could now cut it in the Champ after such a strong season.

Maybe a part of the loan deal for Kelman was that a fee was set for his transfer if he achieved his targets or if Orient wanted to sign him? as we did for our star player Taylor Richards & for Dembele.

I have no idea if this would be the case, but I can envisage that it's possible.

Ha ha, that would be bloody typical, although given Kelmans career to date and contract situation, understandable.

"Very excited to see what we do next".

With a great fanfare, we'll bring him back.

Then play him in goal, or as a wingback

So it’s looking, after 24 pages of opinions, very likely that Orient have an option to sign Kelman when his loan finishes. No wonder HQ has been all quiet about his achievements of late. Without knowing the details, we may have lost our best prospect on the cheap.

Watch Orient then sell him on for a massive profit! Nowhere else!

We don't know this for a fact, do we? And Kelman's goals, to be fair, have been all over QPR official socials.

They've stepped up his coverage massively on socials recently so I don't get this. Where is the information on a buy option also?

This is a perfect example of why we need an experienced, and qualified, DoF running the show.

If you think he's strictly a L1 player on a hot streak, or that you could better use the money generated elsewhere, then you sell him while the price is high. If you think he's going to get a dozen goals for you next season then you don't.

Whatever decision you come to, there isn't time to give the new coach a chance to assess him, because if you wait and he has a poor start to the season then you miss your window and his value falls.

A 24 page thread on our loan striker scoring 27 goals eventually being spun into Nourry comments. That wasn't predictable at all

LOLZ!

FFS 24 pages on this.

Look forward to him coming back next season and either being good or toilet, with accompanying 'I told you so' thread across 50 pages.

I had a nose on the Bristol City forum at the weekend and there’s a thread suggesting that they should have signed Charlie and not Armstrong.

Ok it’s just one bloke and he didn’t get much support for the suggestion, but I had to laugh. Safe to say they’ve run out of patience with Sinclair down there.

Easy tiger. Some folk reading this can't tell the difference between speculation and fact. It'll be in the LFW Glossary soon.

I believe Leyton Orient's record transfer is something like £115k from back in the early 90s. Would have to have a very sudden change of budget to suddenly afford Kelman

Nowhere else? You might want to take a look at Chelsea's recent record on that count.

Charlie's playing tonight. 2-2 from the first leg - winner stays on. Donley, on loan from Spurs, is also getting rave reviews. It's not like we need another '10' but people rate him.
