Charlie Kelman’s Leyton Orient 12:00 - Feb 8 with 143417 viewsDannyPaddox

Up against Man City in the FFS that was offside FA Cup. I prepare to stand corrected but I think Charlie is still our player but as I take as much interest in modern football players contracts and transfers as I do in mobile phone contracts I could be wrong. Either way seems like a good lad and having a decent season with a club I like so up the O’s!

Up against a central defender today in Ruben Dias who’s worth approx £75 mil … would love to see Charlie meg him.

All opinions aside the new head coach will want to take a look at him. If his improvement is deemed good enough and fits the style of play, he’ll stay. If either of those aren’t true, they’ll likely sell him and use the money for another statistically-sound-non-proven-in-the-championship-foreign-player.

I agree though the new head coach may be hamstrung by Charlie's current contract situation. Even if he likes him there's no guarantee that the club are willing to offer a contract extension or that the player is interested in signing one. If neither the club nor the player is interested in extending then the smart play is to sell whilst Kelman's stock is high.

Given our dearth of options up front and Charlie's clear improvement, I think he's worth a contract extension. However, this club and its board works in mysterious ways.

Madsen £4m now. At this rate he'll have cost us £10m by August.

Always fascinates me this. Was £2 million according to WLS when we first signed him. Since then he's been £3 million mostly, occasionally £3.5 million. I suppose 4 is the natural progression

Four million euros was the figure banded around when he signed I think. Maybe it's fluctuating with the exchange rate?

problem might be him not wanting to sign a new contract, he won't be short of offers now but well worth giving him a chance next season

Strange situation: If he wasn't already a signed QPR player, we'd be delighted to be linked with signing him. It's quite possible a player can improve once he's found his confidence. I think of Les Ferdinand out on loan at Turkey. Did anyone think then, he'd become possibly the greatest player to pull on the shirt?

We spent a transfer fee on this guy, and four years of wages.
We sent him out on a development loan, he's developed.
Your other strikers are absolute fcking toilet.
Very excited to see what we do next.

A dozen goals! That’s a high bar Nadera, our top scorer this season only has 8; our second highest has 5 and he’s out of contract and likely leaving.

CK may not be good enough for the Championship but, if he turns out to be a 1 in 4 striker, at our level, that would be more than acceptable

Que him being sold 🤣

The cardinal skill Kelman's acquired at Orient — and it's one every successful striker has to have — is to know where to be before the ball arrives. It sounds simple, stupid even, but it isn't. Charlie Austin had that ability, Lyndon Dykes never did. You don't see Kelman running around futilely chasing lost causes very often, at least not in the few games I've watched him in this season.

Pheeeewwww....ok. He has been far better than I expected him to be this season playing for Os and surely has had an excellent season but i cant help it that i do have this nagging feeling and what i ve seen of him that he wont do it in championship. I hope im wrong and eventually we do make a hefty load of cash selling him.
Time will tell.

I posted this a month ago. Nothing since had made me change my mind. In fact I am even stronger in this view.

'We should offer him a new contract. If he signs it will increase his value and give us a chance to have a look and make a decision in time for the January window.

If he won't sign we should look for the highest offer this summer and then decide to stick, knowing he will eventually leave for nothing, or sell.'

Kelman is going to be at Orient for at least another week: bit premature to be moaning about assessing him yet. We then have all summer to assess him as the transfer window doesn’t close until September.

You couldn't have missed the point more if you'd tried.

All depends if we can play to his strengths and fits in with whatever style we are playing.

Definitely worth keeping in my opinion, every player develops at different ages. Look at Vardy, 27 and went on to have a fantastic career.

We'd definitely would have a thread saying we should look to buy if he wasn't our player. He is, let's see what he can do.

Unless we get a ridiculously high offer for him.

Hard to say out strikers are toilet. Improvement needed? Yea, but Celar has been injured half the season, Frey has been fine but still rusty, kolli is more a forward, Lloyd needs developing

Even if he can't hack it at this level, he's a bloody valuable asset in League One, where he will fetch decent offers.

I find it easy. Prior to his injury Celar was poor in every game bar Cardiff. Frey isn't rusty, he's injury prone. Lloyd is very raw and should be out on loan instead of Kelman. Kolli has shown some promise and is probably the only one I'm excited to see develop.

If potentially he can score close to the number of goals for us next season as he has for Orient this, it's not inconceivable that we adapt our our style of play to fit his strengths.

That would be 11/12 goals for the season, so as good a goals to games ratio as any striker we've had since Austin 10 years ago.

Interestingly, Frey is slightly better than that this season at 1 in 3.5 games.

I'm yet to be convinced that Kelman or Frey - or Celar for that matter - are the answers to our long-standing striker problem, but unless there's an Eze sale this summer, they will probably be the best we can hope for.

He must have been signed on a contract with add-on's.
So, 3 assists and a goal late on added another million.
Apparently the next add-on is triggered by him sprinting, which is why he was told not to until next year.
Similar thing with Celar, the next outgoing on him is triggered by his third goal, so we told him to play dead for the rest of the season.

'Cardinal skill' - we were hoping the Vatican were going to make a bid. I actually thought they had when I heard about the nationality of the new incumbent.
Was worried we'd do a direct swap. Still haunted by the Sinclair transfer.

I didn't catch the pre-match interview but saw mentioned that Wellens said a deal for Kelman would be sorted un the next week. Would be odd if we sold to Orient as can't imagine they'd be paying what has been touted on here - I'm in the keep and see how he goes camp but couldn't begrudge him wanting to move after four years here though a shame to not see if he could now cut it in the Champ after such a strong season.

It’s odd because Celar and Kelman are very similar in style , build , speed and attributes. Both really don’t want to get involved too much until the ball is played into the box .

Both completely different to the striker our style of play has required , not just in the first team but watching a little of the Dev squad too.
So do we adjust our way of playing slightly to get the best out of a pair of strikers who have potential to know where the goal is at this level, or will we just watch them flounder and seem uninterested according to the club’s ‘methodology’ and be calling them both useless ( I know I was ) after 3 games of next season ?

Hate to go over old ground but it brings into question again why Celar was brought in knowing how we were going to play and set up and who made that disjointed decision ?

What was your point then? If it wasn’t about anyone at the club having any time to assess Kelman it was therefore just an attempt to shoehorn in another dig at the inexperienced DOF.
