As they have already started, we need a thread. Suspect most of these will be wrong/clickbait sites, but lets store them in one place.

Hang on. We're discussing this Kone signing as if it were imminent. I've not seen this rumor anywhere, not even on the usual clickbait sites. Have I missed something?

Considering he was playing for Athletic Newham a little over 18 months ago, I’d imagine signing for QPR doesn’t seem so bad.

Keiffer Moore going to Wrexham for 2m. That's a cracking deal. Yet we are stumping up 500k and have spent 1.3m on burrell. Ba cant even get a work permit and we need someone like yesterday!!! Why are we so slow to get a striker in?? 3m on celar vs 2m on Moore??

It's a no brainer

Considering Moore’s wages purported around £25k per week and Wrexham offering £30kor more, no way happening for us

Celar wages is around £8k

Signing 31/32 year old journeyman on massive contracts is exactly why we’re in the position we’re in. It is a no brainer - but in the opposite sense of your point.

It seems to be circulating on Twitter, which is why I prefaced it with "my friend who's on twitter said". He also mentioned a LB signing that was supposed to be announced today so I'd take it with a couple of kilos of salt.

I’ve no idea mate but I’m not fussed about Keiffer Moore. Decent player in his day I guess but looked way off it end of last season.

Have to disagree with you there. We need a target man. An outball. Granted the wages are a big thing in putting together a deal but you get what you pay for. Celar for 3m and look what hes done in 12 months.

We need a presence and I still think Moore would have been a good deal. Wrexham obviously think so. I get tye age is a factor but look at what Dunne, Nelson and rangel did at 35 years old. It's not all about 25 year olds with potential.

Dunne was signed during crazy spending era and part of very expensive squad. Nelson was signed in premier league. Not sure what Rangel wages would have been but doubt anywhere near the 30k rumoured here. We don’t have income to support that type of wage. We have to stick to a wage structure and not just bin it when we feel like it.

Just to put those numbers into context, assuming both are 3 years deals, that's £4.7M in wages for Moore and £1.2M in wages for Celar - assuming both are true

So £2M + £4.7M = £6.7M for Moore
£3M + £1.2M = £4.2M for Celar

Neither looks great honestly, but shows how much difference the wages make to the comparisons when you start to add them in.

I get the idea that you can’t just look at long term deals at the expense of short term success. But every penny of the money Wrexham are paying for Moore will never be recouped. Sheff United will be delighted to get a fee that high for him. This is a good example of how player trading has completely changed since Covid - everything is about resell value, even for the elite clubs. It’s why Kelman could go for nearly double Moore with add ons despite having never scored a goal in the league.

Ultimately, Wrexham can afford to pay money that they will not get a penny back on. We cannot. Style/tactics/player profiles are beside the point.

For that reason - it’s a no brainer for a club like us to make punts that might not work (Celar, Burrell, Ba whoever else), not spend dead money on 32 year olds.

Edit: should clarify all of the above is on the premise you’re paying a fee. Frees and loans are a different story

I'd love to see Wrexham ploughing loads of money into ticket subsidies, community work, and stadium / training facilities but that's not how corporate football works is it.

Maybe they are and I don't know about it because I avoid it because I find it all a bit obnoxious.

That aside I hope the pre circus fans get a go in the sun. I think they are the only championship not to have been in the top flight? Is that right?

He might even be a Free Transfer

And there’s a reason for that…..

One day; in my lifetime; we will have an actual fully fit, working and functioning, real life, goal scoring …. Striker.

(Maybe)

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Lyndon was a hard-working, decent fella.

I just like my strikers to occasionally, you know... score.

Agree with you about the target man, disagree about Moore. As others have said, we need resale value unfortunately which means we need to take a punt on a Kone, Nkada or some other 9 if we want a centre forward.

im the same issue we have is we dont have one who can actually play more than one game a month due to various fitness issues and lets be honest he wouldnt be a downgrade on what we presently have scoring wise

Exactly what I was thinking. If we somehow sign Kone, that changes to things substantially! That will make our forward line serviceable for the season.

You’d think that such a signing would take almost all the budget up and we wouldn’t be picking up a CM or LB, not a remotely good/expensive one anyway.

Very interested to understand how we comply with FFP for such a signing. If Eze is sold, it makes sense. If he is not, could we have done a deal with Palace and sold them the clause?

If we are signing Kone for c. £5m plus wages, it must put us close on FFP. We won’t find out for 18 months, mind.

I really don't understand any more how sports finances work.

I thought we were skint? Yes? No?

Then you look at the likes of ManUre who supposedly are cost-cutting but still chucking millions at average players.

Yours, confused.

u cant have a squad when every player has a possible resale value , just cant be done you need some been thewre seen it players at the end of there careers as well, thi is the issue and indeed last season the balls deep approach that every player is a
Baller
has to be resold for profit at a later date
even with some late comers coming in at the end of the window this squad is weak , very very weak , we havent named a striker in the last 3 friendlies and the strikers we do have couldnt handle the workload last season and so far we have bought burnell in to change that problem who may or may not be a good purchace

we wont pay the money wycombe want for kone thats if we even ave it in the first place , nkada like many brought in no idea if any good or will he be another celar ?

As Moore turned us down a few seasons back as Cardiff offered him (far) more in wages than us, what was the chance that we could outpay other clubs now?

I understand your arguement for an experienced target man, but Moore was never a realistic possibility.

How long does it take to sort Ba's visa? It's beginning to look like one of two scenarios: Either the deal has gone south or he is here with the past fortnight and the club will announce it at half-time on Saturday.
