Yates is no stand-out striker, yet he still managed to score 10 goals in the championship last season. One fewer than Burrell in league one with similar traits in other facets of the game but honed in the championship.
I'm not necessarily saying that we shouldn't have signed Burrell, but I'd much rather Yates over some of the names currently being linked to us as possible forward options, none of whom has any experience of the championship and are unproven in terms of their ability to score goals at this level.
Yates has scored 15, 9 and 10 in his three seasons in the championship for struggling teams in two of those terms. At present, I can only see us struggling to stay in this league next season and that kind of experience might have helped. [Post edited 2 Aug 8:16]

I imagine that the club will have looked at Yates' age and height and said no. We also don't know how much Luton are paying him or what they paid, though it's rumoured to be a similar price to what we paid for Burrell.
I would guess that the club went with Burrell on the basis that being younger he might have more sell-on value in the future? Though I agree that more experience in the here and now would be nice, especially with a player who's more proven in English football. I remain to be convinced about the Ba signing (if it ever happens?) and the Nkada rumours have all gone quiet. | | | |
