As they have already started, we need a thread. Suspect most of these will be wrong/clickbait sites, but lets store them in one place.

What are the laws on subbing a player that's just been arrested on the pitch?

That would be a novel approach

I think people may be reading too much into what I read as a throwaway comment about how difficult it can be for someone who has a very well paid job lined up to move to the country, in a time of mass immigration.

Must we always imagine the worst of each other?

Rumarn Burrell’s contract is for 5 years. It’s on the Insta page of his agent!

Surely not. So if he turns out to be pony, stuck with him for 5 years!

And if he turns out to be mustard we will get decent money for him when we sell him.

Why didn’t he feature in Saturday’s game? Have we been told/read it on his agent’s instagram page?

I think because he has such a long contract that we are trying to sell him to Charlton as well.

Never knowingly right.

My Twitter using friend is insistent that we're going to reveal a left back today (rumoured to be Lowe) and that we're in the running against Leicester for Koné.

I can't see that anywhere else but he's certain 😅

We seem to like handing out the occasional 5 year contract. Perhaps a reason for Nourry's closed communication strategy.

Might also be a reflection of how close we are to ffp perimeters

Maybe it’s with the option of a two year extension.

Is there anything in the Max Lowe rumours?? I've heard we are after him and feels like he's perfect for what we need. Replacement for fox but definitely an upgrade.

Good move if it happens but he won't be short of offers.

Agent not got Nourry memo about contract lengths then? Who’d have thunk info would get out anyway?

Indeed. Clubs can amortise( get you, using big words) any transfer fee over the contract length. I think 5 years is now the maximum. After dodgy accounting from the North Battersea mob.

I am hoping so but I think he will have quite a big choice of clubs after him. Feels perfect for us because he can play the defensive midfield role too.

Never knowingly right.

Nerdish question of the year (maybe someone like Croydon with accounting expertise can answer): can you amortise a contract over 5 years if, for eg, it is for 3 yrs but with a 2 year option?

Good question. I suspect that you can't. If it is a one sided option from the club then there may be a case for it. If it is two way then I can't see how they could get that past the Auditors.

Our normal these days seems to be a one year option on the clubs side. So let's say Burrell is a four year deal with one year option available from the clubs side. You could arguably spread that cost over 5 years (at say £300k per annum if he cost £1.5m) but if you get to the end of year 4 and don't take up the option you will have a double hit in that years accounts. General rule of depreciation/amortisation is to match the cost of an asset over it's useful economic life with the benefits of that asset.

That's come from some twitter account called Wycombe Whispers, saying it's been us, Swansea, and Leicester sniffing around, trying to drive a bit of a bidding war, holding out for about £5m. Surely nonsense, and even if we were, why on earth is he choosing us over a Leicester? Would take Celar and Eze both being sold. Fantasy, surely.

Unpleasant and unnecessary.

I assume you're ralking about Lowe here, in which case only very stupid clubs would look to outbid each other and pay a fee for a player who has purportedly handed his notice in following non-payment of wages.
