The QPR summer transfer rumours thread on 21:59 - Aug 6 by wombat | There was a rumour going round that we offered kelman less money than he was on for his new contract , kelman funnily enough said go forth and multiply allegedly , |
I think FA rules state that any new offer must be at least as good as previous contract. "Any Offer of Re-engagement must be on the same or not less favourable terms as the player’s current contract (including all guaranteed payments, bonuses and benefits in kind – excluding once-only signing-on fees). "

The QPR summer transfer rumours thread on 17:54 - Aug 6 by Rsole | You could also question why we sent a player out on loan knowing that he only had a year to go when he returned. Might have been an idea to extend before sending him on loan to cover the bases and then we’d have either got more money or he could have stayed and probably would have started on Saturday. Now we face the possibility of starting the first game of the season without a striker. At best, it’ll be a striker that hasn’t had much of a preseason or a completely new striker that didn’t even get 15mins last weekend. Failing that, it’s Bennie or the XXS squad. |
We did extend Kelman's contract in January last year. The loan at Orient went better than anyone expected. He came back, probably believing that his value, in terms of salary, had increased substantially and that he needed to start regularly.

Let’s not just post nonsense. Why would we offer less money than we offered him 1 year ago after the season he had? It’s either no offer or the same / better. What you’re saying makes no sense at all.

The QPR summer transfer rumours thread on 08:22 - Aug 7 by EuroRanger | Agreed. Need a couple of signings / loans and to get our first team fit. Bit worrying that our squad is quite small and a lot of players don't appear to be fit, but the squad also has plenty of promise in players like Poku, Adamson and Burrell. We won't know until the season really gets going, but I'm not getting too 'realistic' until at least 10 games in. |
I was not optimistic but relatively relaxed about this season. But the first games are “good” ones, we need to start well, in case it turns out like last year. And it’s practically impossible for the new manager to do so with all these injuries and the amount of youth players he needs to play and bring into the squad. I saw that 17 development players were with 1st team, that sounds great but it’s a huge concern that our first team squad is injury prone.

That is mental - how on earth does that work in practice?! Surely if a player is declining in value and influence, you should be permitted to offer them a reduced contract commensurate to their output!

I think they learnt their lesson this summer that the best ability is availability. It’s concerning that a lot of the 24/25 intake continue to be injury prone, exacerbating the obvious issues of recruitment since Warburtons final year. Going forwards this regime should be prioritising fitness above all other traits. We’ve been plagued for too long and with a low budget in this league you’re always going to struggle with squad depth.

Not during their existing contract period. That would be illegal.

To get round FFP, it's a known tactic to offer less money but more years. It could be that. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

For older players maybe not a lad who has come off his best season ever. I heard a rumour he was offered more but rejected it.

I heard he wasn't guaranteed a starting place so asked to leave. Rumours are dangerous.

I like to think I’m neither. Nor do I think that split or talking about it like that is helpful. But I’m sure I’d be viewed a pro Nourry. I’m probably at lowest view on Nourry this week given the squad our manager has to pick from.

Agreed, but at the point of contract expiry and renewal which is what we're talking about here? Excerpt below from the FA's website which indicates that this applies following contract expiry and a new offer, if I'm reading it right? If a player’s contract is due to expire at the end of the current season and the Club wishes to make an Offer of Re-engagement, this must be on the same or not less favourable terms overall than those which applied during the initial period of employment (or the option period, if applicable).

So this would explain why, if the club were looking at someone like Jack Colback and thinking he would be good to keep for another season but on a lower wage, they actually have to let the contract expire before they can even discuss things?? It sounds like it would be illegal to even suggest to him that we are interested but not at your current wages.
| "Remember to listen to me but look at her. Don't get it the wrong way round. That would be hideous." |

The QPR summer transfer rumours thread on 12:22 - Aug 7 with 2450 views | RBlock | Ron Walker from Sky saying Wycombe have dropped up-front asking price for Kone to £3m + add-ons, which has probably attracted everyone and their mums. Don't know what Leicester's FFP position is but they're meant to be all over it, having just sold Ndidi to Besiktas.

Weren't Luton willing to pay £7m-8m for this guy in January? Wycombe have ballsed that up if so.

Must be panicking if this is true as I Think they turned down £3m from PNE a few weeks ago. Maybe he’ll be playing against us Saturday!

It is a stretch to blame Nourry for all of the injuries though mate

True to a degree but to get so many injuries there must be something wrong in how we train and recover and how they prepare for match days. He hires the people responsible. And also this is on the back of a season where our injury record was terrible. I would have thought a the most important priority would have been to make sure we improve that area. But we’ve got worse. Also - it’s been how long since we were told anything about injuries? 3 weeks? We are made to guess and make assumptions based on photos and videos of training uploaded. Dunne is the captain. Think it’s reasonable to have an update on him at least. It’s Thursday……

Maybe, but don't think it's too much to ask that at the start of the year, before any of the wear and tear of the season actually starts, that we have a squad deep and balanced enough to put out a championship level team even accounting for injuries. If this is an injury crisis in December, after transfer window has closed and a bunch of 3 game weeks has taken their toll then that's another issue.

It's the way it is for the financially strapped. We have to wait and pick up the bargains (sales and loans) near the end of the window. Be nice to have it sorted early but it hasn't been for a long time.

Yet half the Championship had a worse injury records than us. If it were that easy then everyone would be fit. Personally I blame the match schedule.
