Poll: Moses Odubajo - Stick or Twist?

Sunderland Match Thread on 15:32 - May 3 with 2904 viewsdm97

Given him a lot of stick this season, as have many of us, and rightly so. But he’s ended the season well and looks like he might not be the lost cause we all thought he was. Fair play to him and hope to see a continuation of this next season. Well done Madsen

What are we then?

We've won one trophy in our entire history, a new trophy not every club took seriously and that was nearly sixty years ago. We were runners up once in the top division.

In the last 25 years we've spent a total of three seasons in the top flight and the same in L1. We play in one of the smallest and oldest grounds in the division we've spent most of the last 50 years in.

Delusions of grandeur don't have any practical benefit.

Well, yes, but don't forget the play off final victory at Wembley.

Madsen: touch of a Rolls Royce, engine of a Morris Minor.

Needs a good old fashioned pre-season of fitness work and bulking up.

The loss of Edward’s and Dunne will be massive. Both fantastic today.

Oi…I had a Moggie (Morris Minor).

Anyone miss Paal today ?
No me neither

I’m being mischievous and I know some are fans of his. Has his good games but not too often .
But we can do so much better over the course of a season . So many goals come from our left .

I’m not sure it’s a fitness issue. Certainly an application issue which seems to have been tentatively addressed. What he does seem to need, and Frey is the same is a prolonged session with physios to loosen their bodies up. They’re both as stiff as feck when running.

Also, I’m still not convinced Dunne is off. He was Capt today if I’m not mistaken.

Pleased with the win today as I claimed a few weeks back that if we needed to win at Sunderland they would be playing within themselves to be fit for the play offs so here was our chance to finally beat them. I was reasonably confident we would win until the Burnley and manager debacles and then thought we would lose. A feeling brought on by Sunderland losing four on the bounce so this was made for our charity to end that run. I certainly didn't expect Madsen to score the winner with probably our only shot on target.

Sometimes we look like a team away and a rabble at home. No sense in us winning 2-1 on aggregate in two games at Turf Moor and losing 8-0 in two home meetings with Burnley. Whoever is next in the hotseat has to solve our home woes.

Not so sure about Jimmy. I think if there was any good news such as Jimmy or Saito signing we would have heard it this week.

A doughty win in a dead rubber is all well and good, but I feeel frankly anesthetised and exhausted after the season we've had. And I've no clear idea where the club goes, or should go, from here. The club has really crumpled up my enjoyment, and, good as Clive's writing can be, the usual suspects (read bullies and abusers) here haven't exactly helped.

The recruitment issue and the outcome with the coach/manager are clearly intxtricably linked. We retain the likes of Dunne, Saito, I guess Varane, and, who knows, even Edwards; and move on/upgrade Frey, Madsen (despite today's showing) and possibly Colback; and I guess we may have a credible and sustainable nucleus if we can add some Champ-seasoned graft and heft.

I suppose anything could happen next season - and, knowing us, probably will.

Oi…I had a Moggie (Morris Minor).

And me. They're lovely, super-reliable, vintage vehicles.

We need a few more Morris Minors in the team.

Dembele makes me think of a Triumph Stag - snazzily sporty over a few yards, but with a tendency to blow up in your face.

Do any other posters have witty or amusing comparsions to draw between the current squad and motor transport?

We’re winning? Happy with toothless, though Frey and Madsen booked so not totally toothless.

Even if we draw am looking forward to the negative comments because where it matters this has been a good week and I’m a Marti fan.

My point being that we will never break this cycle until we do more up front.

However, great win. Really happy with that.

How long until preseason starts? 😇

I'd be signing Ashby if possible. I know a lot on here are not fans, but he can play multiple positions and appears to be able to keep fit.
And again, when he has gotten a run in the side he has improved, like Madsen.

The Stag had a reputation for blowing head gaskets - bit like a certain football club…

I’d sign him as well as long as it’s free/low fee and affordable wages.
He has definitely improved since getting back in the team.
He was very good today.

if you were out of contract and didn't know who the manager will be next season I reckon you'd be a bit of a mug to sign a new contract unless it was a ludicrous offer wages wise

I don't know how much players really worry about managerial merry-go-rounds - most, I suspect, are more self-centred than that. Drop a nice juicy contract in their lap, and it's thanks very much.

For a young lad, his improvement since his Leicester nightmare has been excellent. It takes a lot of character and bottle to overcome that, and he's done it without letting his head drop. That's the sort of young player we should be going after if you ask me!

Agree

But ( and sorry I am always looking for positives) we only scored 5 less than Sunderland over the season and over 20 players on the scoresheet. Not the worst but could do with that mythical unicorn.

I am being serious in saying Paal cost us more than any other player in the squad and should be moved out tonight.
Countless goals down his side and the amount of chances created even more he checked out when QPR tried to move him last summer .
Obviously Marti liked him but his set piece deliveries on top of his defending shockin poor really .
Thanks for the good games but shove him on to his next team
