No. Certain terms of a contract can still be binding even after termination. Or new terms can be agreed as part of any settlement. NDAs are the obvious example. But restraint of trade can also be binding for a certain period of time so QPR can prevent MC taking another job (particularly with a direct rival) unless there is payment of compensation.

We sacked him basically for having the temerity to sound out about another job and now he cant move anywhere unless we are paid compensation by his new club thereby limiting his future opportunities. I appreciate this may get us money in the long run but what a way to treat an employee that on the whole did a very decent job I could not be at the level Nourry is, because wouldn't have the heart to treat a previously decent employee in such a way. In the long run, that could help us financially but what a dreadful way to operate for me. No room for Mr Nice Guy... No winners in love and war !!!!

I find your view frankly bizarre and perverse (no offence). So our ex-manager, who was always telling how much he loved us/the club etc., sounds out alternative employment (either directly or through his representatives) and the club/our CEO is supposed to suck it up (instead of, rightly, feeling upset/ bewildered/ dishonoured)? Instead, you somehow spin it into more evidence of CN's supposed industrial psychopathy, while bleating 'poor Marti' to anyone who'll listen! Bizarre, as I say! Are you working for him or something?

My interpretation of the WLS article is that Marti and QPR parted ways by "mutual consent," with his contract being paid up but with the club retaining a compensation clause should he get another job in football within a specified time limit. Just my interpretation ....

Yes you are correct as always Stainrod. Marti is a client and I represent him as my agent. I was just against the way it was dealt with as for me, it could have been dealt with more cleanly. If he was going to get rid of him and yes there could well have been reasons, never suggested otherwise, but the prolonged mess of putting him on the naughty step whether it was deserved or not, Sent out a bad message about how things were sometimes not always done here. I disagree with the process that did it. If you going to get rid of someone, what's the point in adding to it, by prolonging the drama and punishing them more on top. And he did a decent job, saved us after Ainsworth literally was leading us into league one. But was saying I could not do Nourrys job. Personally wouldn't treat a previously decent employee in such a way but admire Nourry, in that he probably getting the club money. That's why I am not DoF / CeO of QPR. Clearly Nourry and Cifuentes did not work well together. Both have done good things here, but neither has been without fault, but for me the process and extras on top was clumsy at best. Yes Cifuentes has given me my pocket money and I have bought two wagon wheels but I have one left. It's yours, if you can reply in a friendly manner !!! 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗 [Post edited 9 Jul 0:12]

Isn't it true that a large % of CEOs are psychopaths? Lack of empathy, etc, that's why they can do the job. Personally, I'd be worried sick what people thought of me. So MCs payout will be covered by the compensation, pretty clever considering how much we have lost hiring and firing managers over the past 10 years.

Yeah that’s how I read it and the compo is counting against him when up against people like O’Neil. You’d think if MC was who they really wanted it would be easy enough for MC to hand back the dough and Leicester would give him some sort of signing bonus. Great opportunity for him if it does happen, which I don’t think it will.

This would also be my interpretation of the settlement - with the onus being on MC rather than the contracting club paying back the compensation. As you point out, then it would be down to the contracting club to offer MC some sort signing on fee - unless of course MC foregoes the fee to be gainfully employed. One would expect Leicester to have a bigger budget than ourselves for a management position, so he might just accept the position and pay back the mutual compensation package from us. Definitely not ITK, so obviously just speculating.
