We should not be loosing 6-0 to a club of this statue, pre-season friendly or not. Contrary to firm believe by many on this MB, PSF are not just for match fitness exercises, it is a lot more than that, a lot more. Shocking result.
In saying that I would suggest that 6 of the starting line up today will be nowhere near the side that starts/plays against PNE......hopefully the Manager already knew that but wanted a first hand look at the players against reasonable opposition.
I look forward to seeing the highlights in order that I can formulate my own opinion of the players performances & system(s) that we played.
You told me it was all looking good for a top 10 finish this morning

It's a shocking result. We've been gubbed 6-0 a team in a league that's a worse standard than ours. It's a damning indictment of the so called 'ballers' in our development squad as well. Walsh, Bennie, Larkeche, Tuck, Morgan, Pearman, Sutton all unable to lay a glove on players they will be hoping to be at the level of this season or next. As for the so called senior pros, my word. Field had a stinker, Celar wouldn't know a press if it smacked him in the face, Dembele offered next to no protection down the right.
Suddenly we are relying on Varane wanting to stay and continuing his improvement, Kelman wanting to stay and translating his form to the level above, JCS and Cook to miraculously remain fit.
For all the Nourry lovers on X this should be a wake up call (it isn't, it's Smyth and Field's fault). If we'd lost 2-0 and played like that it would be just as concerning

One of the disadvantages of changing manager is he’s going to have to learn stuff about us that Cifuentes learned over a couple of years and we all know…
1 - I know passing out from the back is trendy and game model and develops players to sell, but we don’t have the players to do it. We get caught out every time. On our budget we can’t afford players who are capable of doing that. It’s why Ronnie Edwards looked like a fcking God in our team.
2 - every time we try and play 2 central midfielders we get out numbered, out fought, swamped. You have to stodge that bit of the pitch up with 3, and with some legs, and with some hard nosed experience or we get walked through. If Colback isn’t sticking around he’s going to need replacing, he’s important to us.
We say it all the time on here but in this league, in our situation, on our budget, you need to be pragmatic. If we think we’re doing this season with 2 in central midfield, Larkeche at LB and Adamson on the right we’ll get destroyed.

Thankfully Dunne will be at right back, but I didn't think any of our centre halves looked anywhere like good enough today. I'm sure that will change though.
We definitely don't have the players to play 4-4-2!

Yeah those two are in our DNA by now.
Also Daniel Bennie at right back, WTF? Jimmy Dunne wants to go back to CB Julie, do not listen to him. He loves Chiswick and will do whatever you tell him to stay living there.

Our manager who says he is not worried by todays result. I presume that is one for the media.
Been thinking the same about Colback. Unless he is looking for a three year deal or a 30% pay increase then we should be signing him.
The vast majority of Championship teams haven't got the quality to pass out from the back.

I wouldn't disagree but on point 2, our problem wasn't so much through the centre than down the right hand side. Bennie should never have been thrown in as a RB and Castellon had the run of the park down that side, particularly in the first half, and scored several goals as a result.
We, of course, thought we'd chuck one in ourselves for Castellon and that was from CM.
I thought we lined up in a 4231 formation.

I know I am a miserable old so and so, but I hope you were being ironic. Who actually gives a shite about the performance of the development squad, the women's team or any of the age groups?
There is only one thing that matters - first team results. Yes, it's a nice distraction to beat Brentford in a cup final, but unless three or four of that lot are first team ready NOW or at least by next year, it is of limited true value. I see a number of promising kids coming in to the club, but none of them look capable of pushing out 30 good games in the first team.
That, and the fact that our senior first teamers also can't put out more than 30 games, is a cause for worry.
Yes it's all a month away, but optimism already waning.
...and btw Winchester City is my local club these days, so I'll be there for the Dev Squad game next week...
Outside of the top, established Premier League Clubs you will struggle to find clubs who regulary produce young talent through their youth system. It's a numbers game really.
Whatever Dario Gradi did at Crewe was pretty unique.

Exactly what I was thinking Clive , that's why I think the start of the season might be a bit Sketchy ....the new boss will be trying to look at all our players to give them a chance when us lot know a few just ain't good enough for championship football and by the time he sorts his squad and formations we could be 10 games into the season.
AND WHEN I DREAM , I DREAM ABOUT YOU AND WHEN I SCREAM I SCREAM ABOUT YOU!!!!!

That wouldn’t be ideal the way our fixtures have fallen.

And in a different era where top flight clubs didn’t hoover up everything that could kick a ball. The two big Manchester clubs have decimated that region.

Gaffer not happy but not suicidal yet either. He will go grey very quickly though.
So he's 'disappointed' by the score, but he also 'doesn't care about the result in pre-season' as it's a 'process'? If we'd won 6-0, I'm fairly sure it wouldn't have been a 'process'. Perhaps he doesn't care about the performance either - in which case, why play the game at all? Either way, the interviewer was so unwilling to press him he might as well have been Jan Celar!
With coherence, pride and clarity like that, my buckles are well and truly swashed!

Didn't Julien say that he watched all of last seasons games? He would have been well prepped before his announcemnent, existing coaching staff bringing him up to speed.
We have to hit the ground running next season and take advantage of the early opportunities to put points on the board.

Marti’s gone to Leicester now, you are safe here.
Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?
