Castellon Friendly on 11:16 - Jul 13 by Mr_Beef | To be fair to Nourry we all know that we're a selling club. Any good offers that come in for Varane and Kelman should be considered on their own merits. |
That's the opinion of a wise old head posted on a grumpy old gits forum (and I am including myself in that demographic). The youngsters over on Twitter won't like it if we sell Varane and Kelman, and that's where Nourry has most of his fanboys.

Castellon Friendly on 09:52 - Jul 13 by hoopedmonkey | Few things that struck me from that performance. If Castellon are a lower level side why were they able to play out from the back and how can they afford players who are able to do so? When they pressed us they pressed to win the ball (harry and tackle) when we pressed them we pressed for a mistake (close and stand off). We may have lined up 4231 but appeared to be trying some form of 442, Celar and Pearman then Richards and Sutton as the front men. |
They are not lower level, they are the same level as us they came 16th in the Spanish 2nd division sandwiched between Deportivo and Malaga and were one win off 11th They were joint 3rd highest scorers in the division last season

Castellon Friendly on 17:53 - Jul 12 by rbee | Our manager who says he is not worried by todays result. I presume that is one for the media. Been thinking the same about Colback. Unless he is looking for a three year deal or a 30% pay increase then we should be signing him. The vast majority of Championship teams haven't got the quality to pass out from the back. |
"The vast majority of Championship teams haven't got the quality to pass out from the back." But, most teams are able to play short passes more accurately than long ones. Trouble is, if you are planning to play a long ball from the back, you need a) defenders that can play a long ball accurately and b) another type of skill further up the pitch - the ability to win a (usually) high ball and, under pressure, hold on to it. The players with that ability seem to be rare.

Castellon Friendly on 11:02 - Jul 13 by davman | Looking at both half teams, it is not a stretch to say that 4 of the first half team should be considered "good" Championship players and 4 from the second half team. Just 8 fckn players up to scratch and 14-15 "hangers on" or kids. At least 5 new players needed, but seeing as Nourry has already said outs before ins, we are unlikely to get anymore than 3. Really could do with a good start for a change, but we always seem undercooked when each season starts. This one likely tobe no different... |
I'm in the different camp.....I believe that we assembled a decent squad overall. The main issue that we hav , that I can see, is we need a striker. Frey is the only one that I believe is 'about' up to scratch.....the others are not good enough despite me being a bit harsh about Kelman who 'fair play' to him done quite well in the 1st Division. Keep fit, add a striker and we should be ok & better. Sign Colback and I would be very happy indeed.

Castellon Friendly on 09:33 - Jul 13 by JamesB1979 | What do you mean by “this midfield”? I think Varane and Field plus maybe a Vale could be decent in the league. The passing out from the back is an issue, as last season, but Stephane mentioned that in his interview after ie. we don’t always need to go short. The full backs are also a major issue but if Dunne is on the right, it’s the left back we need to worry about. Also, what I would say is that they wanted it much more than us. And the effort is something you can’t really judge in a pre-season. I’ve no idea what the fitness guy has told them but it looked like we had very little energy. Someone like a Field needs to be at 100%, he plays at 80% is half the player. Terrible result. Poor performance. But better to play a good side (they were good) and learn now than August. I still think we have some good individuals in the squad. |
Yeah, Varane and Field were fantastic last season. 70 odd appearances, 4 goals, and 2 assists between them. That is f@cking abysmal. We can sign whoever we want in every other position, but if you don't win the midfield, it is all pointless. Field was awful yesterday, pretty average against Stevenage. He can't pass forward, and if the club want to progress, they can't rely on players like this. I don't think he'll be starting come PNE.

Castellon Friendly on 16:54 - Jul 12 by Northernr | One of the disadvantages of changing manager is he’s going to have to learn stuff about us that Cifuentes learned over a couple of years and we all know… 1 - I know passing out from the back is trendy and game model and develops players to sell, but we don’t have the players to do it. We get caught out every time. On our budget we can’t afford players who are capable of doing that. It’s why Ronnie Edwards looked like a fcking God in our team. 2 - every time we try and play 2 central midfielders we get out numbered, out fought, swamped. You have to stodge that bit of the pitch up with 3, and with some legs, and with some hard nosed experience or we get walked through. If Colback isn’t sticking around he’s going to need replacing, he’s important to us. We say it all the time on here but in this league, in our situation, on our budget, you need to be pragmatic. If we think we’re doing this season with 2 in central midfield, Larkeche at LB and Adamson on the right we’ll get destroyed. |
"One of the disadvantages of changing manager is he’s going to have to learn stuff about us that Cifuentes learned over a couple of years and we all know…" I think you are spot on with this. But it raises a serious question. All along we have been told that the DoF / coaching "philosophy" model ensures continuity. So why is every new Head Coach coming in and making exactly the same mistakes as their predecessor? They shouldn't need that learning curve. The lessons should already have been learned and absorbed into our whole model. The new Head Coach should just be picking up where the old one left off. N'est-ce pas? [Post edited 13 Jul 13:28]

Castellon Friendly on 22:18 - Jul 12 by Beans | Dave McIntyre says Nourry took the steps needed to protect the club and ensure we get compensation. And now with the Leicester deal that's proving true it seems But you are presenting things as if Marti was realistically going to be here next season and criticising Nourry for him now being at Leicester. So can you fill us in on what it is makes you so confident that Dave McIntyre is wrong? |
Clive has constantly stated that things went awry between Cifuentes & nourry last summer & that there no possibility of Cifuentes being here this season. I would be interested in how he has presented that he could realistically be here this season. Perhaps you can explain? I've also yet to see a word that has criticised Nourry for Cifuentes "now being at Leicester". Maybe our perception of posts is very different? EDIT I've now seen that Beans has answered these questions [Post edited 13 Jul 13:34]

Isn't there some crazy stat on how many games we have won without Field in the team? I think one of the problems last year when we had just Varane and Field in the midfield is that we lacked creativity. I don't have a problem with those two there but you can't simply tackle and then lose the ball - you need to counter. I would like us to play 4-4-2 but realistically you'd have to have a Holloway and a Wilkins to do that - at the moment they are two Holloways. So then you have to go to one up top, which only works if you have Frey to hold it up.

It was BAWHoops post that immediately preceded yours that he said: "For all the Nourry lovers on X this should be a wake up call (it isn't, it's Smyth and Field's fault). If we'd lost 2-0 and played like that it would be just as concerning" I just scrolled up and clicked your post by accident as it was next to it. I was talking to BAWHoops |
Haha, hilarious attempt to cover your mistake just makes it worse! Bawhoops' post didn't even mention Marti or Leicester and your 'reply' was solely on that subject. You've been caught out again. You are sooooo bad at this. I'm sensing some gardening leave is just around the corner.

And I agree with you agreeing with Gaza. So the only player of note we have lost is Paal, not many on this forum rated him ( not me tbh) and have gained Poku , Mbengue , Vale and Kelman back from a stellar season. So the squad has to be stronger than last season. Yesterday was very poor but showed how key Varane and dare I say Steve Cook is and the obvious option of playing your best starting 11. Get the buggers fit for August please.
