Anyone watching? Just about to kick off

Poll: Moses Odubajo - Stick or Twist?

I look back to those happy days when we were pumping Stevenage 5-0 and I feel a little tearful about how far we've fallen since then.

Poll: Who is your player of the season?

While I'm on one, Celar not looking really on it as he plays himself back to fitness in a behind closed doors friendly after a serious injury is really not that surprising .

I mean he never really looked on it when he was fit either.

Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore.

So we won last years 1st pre season game 9-0 I think. TBH would rather have a reality check now than after the season started. Also Varane not playing is tough, might make Jack Colback ‘s situation interesting. Only saw 1st half luckily

Most posters do not realise how important Colback is to the team, thought we would have heard what is happening/happened with his future.

You told me it was all looking good for a top 10 finish this morning

Tell me about it Norf........still think, like last season, that we have a decent squad who are working together. Yesterday I cannot understand the first 11 he picked, as I said 6 will not be starting, it wasn't like that in my day, best 11 started, make changes in the 2nd half. Now we put a reserve side out in the first half. And replace everyone at half time.

I like the squad, some good players. Shocked we have not signed a striker, what we got is very limited indeed.

The new manager (coach) is under instructions who to play and when to play them. Same as the old manager (coach). It’s one of the reasons marti is not here anymore.

As an example. Cook played so much last year, that he triggered an auto-extension. That would not have happened if it were up to “the club”. That was Marti.

So if you are wondering why Bennie is selected at RB (he played there for Oz u20s) or why dev squad members have been called up to the first team squad tour, or why Kolli was ostracised early last season, it is “the club”.

This will never be Julian Stephans side. It is the clubs side, coached by Stephan.

How do you know all this stuff?? If it was factual then we would not be getting a Team Coach/Manager - who is going to work under those conditions & restrictions??

If we go in with these full backs, this central midfield and these strikers we’ll be in the sht.
Everybody you’d expect to be injured again is injured again.
Lots of the summer left thankfully but also lots to do.

I think his ongoing desperation to try and two foot me perhaps shone through a little bit there. It always does in the end.

2 footed is marginally better than one fisting….in prison, at least.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

Full backs are a big part of the game now & probably always have been. Dunne is very important for us at RB, he will start there against PNE. Need to see the LB play again but he is not a 'patch' on Paal. We need a new forward because what we got is not good enough unless Kelman proves good which I am not sure he will. Yesterday will be a real headache for the Manager and his Team, the players will be mortified - a bit like we are. 6-0 beating by a team of less statue than us is not good, even if it was a PSF and contrary to what the Manager had to say after the game.

I am surprised by the first 11 he played yesterday and the positions they played.....don't understand it, we need wins and good performances in these friendlies to give the entire squad positive stuff in their brain boxes, loosing 6-0 will do the exact opposite.

Yes we will be in trouble, big trouble. We need a striker Norf, none of our current strikers are good enough although Frey may be able to do a job. Injuries already, I do not understand it!!!!

Your post about MC knowing his squad has taken him two seasons, we have a new Manager and new Team with him coaching the players......it will take time but they need to hurry up, the season starts in a few weeks.

What do you mean by “this midfield”? I think Varane and Field plus maybe a Vale could be decent in the league.

The passing out from the back is an issue, as last season, but Stephane mentioned that in his interview after ie. we don’t always need to go short.

The full backs are also a major issue but if Dunne is on the right, it’s the left back we need to worry about.

Also, what I would say is that they wanted it much more than us. And the effort is something you can’t really judge in a pre-season. I’ve no idea what the fitness guy has told them but it looked like we had very little energy. Someone like a Field needs to be at 100%, he plays at 80% is half the player.

Terrible result. Poor performance. But better to play a good side (they were good) and learn now than August. I still think we have some good individuals in the squad.

Few things that struck me from that performance.

If Castellon are a lower level side why were they able to play out from the back and how can they afford players who are able to do so?

When they pressed us they pressed to win the ball (harry and tackle) when we pressed them we pressed for a mistake (close and stand off).

We may have lined up 4231 but appeared to be trying some form of 442, Celar and Pearman then Richards and Sutton as the front men.

Well Spanish sides are a lot better than English sides at passing out from back and retaining possession. That’s why I get frustrated with the need to be “Man City light”. Mix it up. Not saying going long all the time but vary it.

This has absolutely no relevance to the post it’s replying to at all. Laughably so in fact.

The playing out from the back and two man midfield issues have been present here for years, under several managers. Stephan will come to learn it like many of his predecessors.

I quoted you in error. It was BAWHoops post that immediately preceded yours that he said:

"For all the Nourry lovers on X this should be a wake up call (it isn't, it's Smyth and Field's fault).
If we'd lost 2-0 and played like that it would be just as concerning"

I just scrolled up and clicked your post by accident as it was next to it. I was talking to BAWHoops

Now the fitness guy is back in the house are we going back to starting the season 80% fit and building towards 100% in the opening games again?

Looking at both half teams, it is not a stretch to say that 4 of the first half team should be considered "good" Championship players and 4 from the second half team. Just 8 fckn players up to scratch and 14-15 "hangers on" or kids.

At least 5 new players needed, but seeing as Nourry has already said outs before ins, we are unlikely to get anymore than 3.

Really could do with a good start for a change, but we always seem undercooked when each season starts. This one likely tobe no different...

Can we go out yet?

Nourry might just be softening us up ahead of the "reluctant" decision to sell Varane and/or Kelman to enable some essential squad reinforcement.

Making it look like his hand was forced gives him an easy out if his judgement is questioned further down the line.

To be fair to Nourry we all know that we're a selling club. Any good offers that come in for Varane and Kelman should be considered on their own merits.
