and I'm no expert but it seems that pushing the full backs high up the field, in this formation, which they are not used to, gave them space in the wide areas to exploit and cause havoc in our defence.

Never has there been a greater example as to why 4-4-2 went out of the modern game, just outnumbered everywhere and no actual strikers. Tactics in the previous game seemed smart and clever switching from 4-3-3 defending to 3-4-3 attacking. We were just lost in this against a smart press and a team with good passing and movement. The positives have to be it really showed up the deficiencies we have up front and at full back that need to be addressed. Positives if there are any are the three young players Tuck, Esquerdhina, Akindeleni and perhaps Richards as well

Agree

Tuck, Morgan, Akindileni, Richards, Poku all had a few promising moments.

Nardi must be number one.

Bennie, Celar would move on for me as soon as.

Arm around the shoulder for Walsh. See how he comes back next game.

Yes I would agree. Many seem to think Larkeche is going to be an ok, left back, I still have my reservations.

Looks exactly the same player before he left. The young Brazilian is streets ahead of him

2nd half much better.

Liked the look of Morgan and Tuck in CM, much more effective than Field and Vale. Expect the CM to be Varane, Morgan and Vale at the start of the season. I honestly can't see Field starting.
Akindileni looks a real prospect at CB.

Need a fit striker.
Bennie is not a RB and was hung out to dry by Dembele.

Drop Field? Definitely a big No for me. The likes of Field and Dunne step it up when it matters.

Was clear before but really obvious after being torn apart by this lot - you cannot go into the season with this set of fullbacks.

...or those strikers
...or those central midfielders
...or those goalkeepers

How comes it is the "first choice" players (Frey, Madsen, Kolli, Kelman, Varane, Cook, JCS) that are unfit and none of the fringe players?

Gonna be a long. long season if this is what we are going to have to choose from...

Can we go out yet?

Field is one of the first names on the team sheet.

A midfield of Varane, Morgan and Vale gifts Preston three points unless they are a poor side.

Very good question.

And from what I’m reading the highlights were a few second string or newbies. Hoping the tools aren’t being downed already.

6-0 against a side that finished virtually same position, same points in same type of league is alarming, irrespective of whether they’re just back.

Vale has virtually no Championship experience, he needs time to play himself in not be thrown in the deep end.

That was an eye opener if a pre season friendly.

Where is Kolli? I read that Frey Madsen and Kelman were going to miss the game, but should join the squad in midweek, but nothing about Kolli.

Perhaps the club are looking to sell him.

What today showed is that QPR need a new centre forward and maybe full backs, although Adamson might prove to be OK next up against Toulouse.

On this showing they also need to sign Saito because unlike Dembele he does provide support for the left back.

Kolli was in a leg brace at the end of the Under 21s cup final 6-7 weeks ago so would suspect he is injured. Sat on the bench watching the game for the first pre-season

Always enjoy how quickly we go from great signings, brilliant who has re-signed, excellent new manager, gonna be a good season, to.....everyone's crap, manager's clueless.

45 minutes of a pre-season friendly, in fact. Love it.

So we won last years 1st pre season game 9-0 I think. TBH would rather have a reality check now than after the season started. Also Varane not playing is tough, might make Jack Colback ‘s situation interesting. Only saw 1st half luckily

I thought it was noticeable how much more the ball went forward with Morgan and Tuck.
This issue with the CM not passing forward is not a new one, and it needs to be addressed at some point. If not we will have exactly the same problems as before and that 1st half proved it

Not that many extremes out there I don't think.

Unknown manager with potential, like Marti.

Jimmy was a very important signing.

Both Mbengue and Poku have great potential given the reaction of the Reading and Peterborough fans to losing them.

Next season is as worrying as the last few. We need signings all over the pitch and if Arsenal don't pull the trigger we are going to struggle to recruit quality.

Still a question mark over players being fit and available.

True but 3 main issues overall

1) The passing out from the back. Same as last season. We insist on doing it but causes us far more problems than any benefits.
2) Full backs. Gave far too much space to wingers. Bennie was played out of position and hung out to dry.
3) Failure to retain ball, by most but in particular the forward 3-4 players. Lose it and it comes back and out of defensive shape.

Kolli is currently not available through injury. Wasn't he injured in training along with Frey?
