You can pretty much make stats prove anything depending on how you measure them. What does 85% availibility actually mean? 85% of the whole squad (including devs and u21s) wasn't injured? Or 85% of the first team? Or maybe everyone was available but for only 85% of the time.
Exactly. By what metric are the injuries being measured. Number of injuries? Games missed per first team player?
Not enough questions from the floor and a bunch of cherry picked rubbish.
Its actually very disrespectful to the people that turn upto these things, to pick out questions like "what does my son need to do to be a professional footballer".

like most stats it's being measured to support the argument they want to make that injuries were not an issue last season and it was the managers fault for not rotating the squad well enough

That isn’t what they said tonight. They said that we had a lot higher number of non-muscular injuries.

Not a criticism, because I was quite impressed by the responses to questions, but our Christian did remind me of Di Caprio in Wolf of Wall Street, his sweaty brow, dead pan gaze and rolled up shirt gave off those vybes.
It does always fascinate me that people say things that are so easily disproven, and seemingly don't care or think people won't check.
Quite a few examples of white lies or nonsense claims - particularly at these forums - that are completely unnecessary.
Some of the comments from Ben Williams also shows a lack of accountability, which is a particular bugbear of mine. It's fine to make mistakes or get things wrong! Learning from them is what matters!
Not taking sides here but I guess it’s possible to make mistakes, learn from them and then pretend they didn’t happen afterwards ;)

Proof of the injuries and the reason given will pan out this season, but another season where lots of players are unavailable and Ben Williams will be replaced. I do believe his reasoning, but his acumen is to be tested this season.
Nourry definitely came across as a hard working, extremely intelligent man and for me, i am impressed by the structure that is in place and the immense detail that is being tested and tried out and looking at successful teams at trying to replicate their models with the right team of people behind them sounds promising.
The model of buy young, sell at optimum level is sound, however it wont excite those who want it all and they want it now.
Obviously data is relevant today and stats that say fitness programmes and time of playing are linked to certain levels to ensure we have less injuries and that we get the highest possible availability is sensible. The fact that Ben Williams quoted that compared to 15 years ago, players cover in sprints 50% more than that time ago, hence why numbers of injuries per squad per season have massively increased nationwide.
Numbers i didnt disbelieve but it hasn't seemed like it at games i have attended.
The role of Bould is interesting. So we are told the standard of defending has deteriorated. And from our experience, no one wants to be a full back.
Betsy giving weekly individual training goals and assessments and the plan for younger players to learn the system, so they can seamlessly transition up the age levels and into the pro ranks is a good idea in theory.
Scouts focussing on one position alone at all levels is sound too. Ie would become the experts on that role and use of personality, mentality and talent all key.
I did feel like i had been in a team meeting and was yearning for my tea break and my tuna salad sandwich.
Happy to see where this regime takes us.
The issue of Christian Nourrys age isnt a worry for me having seen this though.
He clearly wants to succeeed, has a plan, all people are in place, and now its time to execute the ideas.
If it all goes south very early, who knows.
Regards Stephan though, i had very good early signs that he could be fun and also a positive progressive appointment.
If he fails here, a career in comedy cabarat awaits......

Of course they won't say that but in recent interviews and again tonight that is what is implied that injuries were not as big a prolem as was made out

I think the biggest takeaway from this is that Nourry was ok with Stephan being on the panel tonight as he obviously wouldn’t trust Marti to go off message. Probably a good thing in the long run that he and the head coach are aligned.

Really surprised by the negativity and cynicism here. I listened and was impressed. Before I’m accused of being a Nourry plant I attempted to take one such poster to task earlier in the week. But on this thread I see slightly selective or partially inaccurate quoting, and then attacking Nourry or another speaker. This just comes across to me as if a FEW posters were almost looking for something to criticise.
We are going down a very particular path (data, science, development) and have put a big infrastructure in place (relative to our budget). It will probably take two or three more years before we have any kind of steer on how successful it is. But it sounded carefully thought out to me, and at least there is a plan which will also evolve by watching and learning what else is going on in football. Surely that’s tentatively positive?
While it is easy to snipe at details I haven’t heard any over-arching alternative strategy for getting the club out of its current predicament. Absolutely fine to hold snr executives to account (and I have criticised Nourry myself for everything from the Marti debacle to the signing of players like Madsen); but for balance surely we should acknowledge that at least we have an intelligent (if inexperienced) man at the helm who does seem to be learning from certain mistakes, who did come across as a little more human than in some of his press releases and who was able to justify most things put to him. Just one small example: some fans have criticised the Kelman sale, but I thought he made an interesting point (that I wasn’t aware of) that big transfers are typically being spent on ever younger players; the buying club is also increasingly thinking about what they can later sell that player for.
EDIT: with my fat thumbs I accidentally quoted another poster which makes it look like I am criticising this particular post. I am not so apologies for giving that impression.

Agree very much with this. I think the negativity could just be a sign of the times where every statement is forensically analysed and compared against previous statements to find angles that may never have been intended.
Very impressed by the team being assembled on and off the pitch. Lined the consistency could be our edge approach. Definitely is in the championship where you don’t have to be that good just consistently average and the playoffs are on

That could explain some of the recruitment…

Don't know how you could sit through all that. Got very bored after a while, mainly because I can't get the thought out of my head that although on the one hand some things seem promising, and on paper the signings seem good - we all know that these same things can be proved to be awful after the first couple of months on the pitch. I am going to reserve my judgement until late September on all of them, I just have a really bad feeling. Hope I am wrong, as per usual.
I was pleased to hear from the first question that the safe standing seems likely to be expanded. Why so long before we do it though? Apart from annoying the family stand stalwarts (hi Dave :-)) surely making the whole of the loft safe standing is something that should have been done as soon as possible? Why wait for another season?
Although, having said that, there were a few incidents of ordinary behaviour last season in the safe standing, even in the DS final, so if / when it does happen the stewarding really needs to be improved. Or even just introduced, to be honest. I'm not talking about behaviour involved with being a fan, watching the match, but behaviour that actually ruins the day for fellow R's fans and that has to be stamped out.

Nourry said that there was very little capital expenditure available for the ground this year, hence waiting until next year to make more changes. The magic money tree is bare.

There are certainly some positives. I really like the coaching approach to development, bringing in specialists like Bould and Betsy, in theory that should be a big help to achieve things,
Ultimatley it's all stuff we heard before but with a different voice, developing players, picking them up from other clubs, pathways to the first team, fans being patient and the aim is to be sustainable not win the league. We heard it all from les, Ramsey and so really it's just a new voice saying the same things in a different way.
Whether it goes better or not remains to be seen. Lets hope it does

If you do make the whole lower loft rail seating you have to anounce that well in advance of season tickets for it to work so people can be moved if they want to. I think we might see that happen next summer with an announcement in January

While I do admit thats it good that we are trying to stick to a specific path (data, science, development), I dont accept that this is anything new. The development line was being troped out for years under Ferdinand and Ramsay and they were the ones that started the DS.
We have also been using Andy Belks data for 10 years now, except now he has managed to wangle his way into a job where he is "more empowered".
So yes its good that the message is clear and consistent, but I just dont like the messaging that CN is reinventing the wheel.

How do you know? To make an obvious counter-point, which has been raised before, it's entirely likely that Marti himself chose not to attend.

Your are right it’s not new.
The problem comes when a board member gets impatient, intervenes, and installs a Ainsworth or signs an Austin.
The future stability of this club relies on locking the board in a cupboard.

Only speaking for myself, but my own cynicism comes from how people are treated , be it fans , staff..head coaches ? Not the decisions taken but how they are done and the smoke and mirrors used to tell us that our own eyes don’t see reality alot of the time .
As most people here have said , there are positives of course . The plans that are in place or have been tweaked, are setting us up pretty well . Even Christian looks a little easier and relaxed in front of the fans although he soothed himself with the sound of his own voice for the first 40 minutes. I would even say I’ve warmed to him slightly after the last few weeks .
But one of his closing statements last night he said (paraphrasing slightly) “ ..and most all it’s important to be open”. Does he not see the hypocrisy in this statement ? It crept under the radar but I spat my beer out watching the feed. He has never been ‘open’ with us and it’s the route of the division between sets of fans.
Ultimately, yes we are setting up the club well to produce young players to sell to make us more sustainable and competitive , but are we sacrificing , be it deliberate or not ,this season and maybe next ? Still reading people say “ I’m Impressed with the squad being built “.
Yes, for the 2027/28 season. This squad now is weak , injury prone and unbalanced and will circle the drain again unless added to in important areas. Only my thoughts . Expect people to disagree, but that’s not moaning for moaning sake . Just real fears for the season ahead .
