Taylor Richards gone…thank god. on 23:07 - Sep 1 by LazyFan | He got injured in the calf and came off in a pre-season friendly. I suspect we did not pay it all up, probably just up to the end of January. This way, he gets released early and can find an L2 club that offers a pay-as-you-play option, which he will storm, of course, so they offer him, or someone else, a better long-term contract in L1. Upon which he will get injured again! |
It’ll be interesting to see if any club is stupid enough to take him on.

Hard to understand then, how we found ourselves top after 16 games !!! I agree with what you are saying, but looking back, it was incredibly weird, given what we know now, about the manager then and many of the players, that we were top after more than a third of a season in terms of games played !!! Hard to explain that stat !!!

We were three points off the play-offs last season. We were three points off the play-offs under Steve McClaren. Most teams have a good run in a season. TBF we did burn extra hot that season. But it soon catches up with you.

Rightly and understandably we don't know what TR's 'issues' were and/or are, but if they're organic in nature then I wish the lad well in his battle to overcome them. However, if he's either compounded and/or brought them upon himself by poor lifestyle choices, well then it's on him and on your way! The project moves on...

Pay as you play isn't allowed in the EFL. A contracted player must receive minimum wages along with anything else in the contract signed. Appearance fees are permitted though, along with any other match related performance bonuses. https://www.efl.com/documents/efl-handbook.pdf

PAY AS YOU PLAY KLAXON. Well it was a gamble (no idea if an expensive one) and it didn't work out. As usual with this player plenty of posters shouting the odds on him being a wrong 'un, does anyone actually know that for certain? Or did he have personal/mental health issues? Again I don't know anyone on here who can say for certain. It didn't work out, we shake hands and wish him the best for the future. We move on.

Taylor Richards gone…thank god. on 00:38 - Sep 2 by NewcastleHoop | Taylor's crime was being brought in by Mick Beale and not being very good. That's it. Most of the million football players in England aren't very good. Fair play to Brighton, they rinsed us for a League Two player. He gets pelters for his availability from people who would have complained about him being in the side if he WAS available, so he couldn't win. |
I think that is being very generous towards Mr Richards. Never appeared to attempt to get fit, dicked around on loan, 183 different minor muscular injuries and general attitude appears to be appalling. If he'd played, put in a shift, but just wasn't very good, then the feelings towards him might be very different he may have mental health issues but given his contract, salary and supposed love of the club he has done very little to endear himself to anyone associated with the club

Agree with this. Kakay was an example of a player who clearly wasn't going to be a long-term first choice in his position, but gave his all, showed commitment, inevitably did good things as well as bad. And ultimately was appreciated by the fans for that, in general. (bar the rumor of him refusing to go out on loan). At least he gave himself a chance to have a future in football after QPR. Richards did none of that. [Post edited 2 Sep 9:14]

To quote Boyle from Brooklyn Nine-Nine, I think you may be only 99% right this time. Richards - crap. Balogun - let's go with crap even though we were disappointed he left us for Big Rangers. Roberts - renovation project that didn't work out, missed the Wales World Cup squad with genuine injury, Leeds couldn't get him healthy either. Paal - played at QPR level or slightly better for 2½ years, meant we didn't have to worry about left-back. Iroegbunam - did fine, now a Premier League player on merit. Laird - first-team regular, victim of four-four-f******-two, now a first-team regular for probably a better side than us. JCS - "So, you take him on, and you put medical staff around him to try and get more minutes out of him. Enter Ben Williams, and Clarke-Salter is probably his biggest success story to date."

From memory numpty, we just about edged games that could easily have gone the other way. This was largely due to Willock having a purple patch. It soon fell apart in the last five or six matches before Beale walked out.

I guess it sort of exists. Its just a rubbish basic with everything loaded on appearances (either a max or a per game). The sort of deal we offered Nedum, which he thought was an insult (but weirdly couldn't get better than so ended up in Canada)...
Taylor Richards gone…thank god. on 13:21 - Sep 2 with 2108 views | NorthantsHoop | All too good to be true with Richards when we signed him 3 years ago from Brighton on a loan and option to buy at £700k or something like that, let's face it Brighton were selling players for millions and to let a prospect go for peanuts really should have set alarm bells ringing, but then again it was at the time we were gaslighted by Mr Beale.

Laird went from looking like the best right back since the Bard to the most disengaged footballer since Zaha at Man Utd. As bad as Richards in some ways.

Is there any mystery left outside of this just being a bad transfer? Not sure what the club would be allowed to do or what would be in it’s best interests to disclose.

Laird had a lovely smile though didn't he? Never got tired of Roberts exasperated hand gestures when the ball wasn't played exactly into him in the way he wanted, when he wanted. Quality times. Don't think I ever saw three players sit down on the grass as much as they did in that season. Who was it who stopped to tie their laces during the match, while it literally went on five feet away?
