Have we found our new Grant Holt? He couldn’t resist keeping the referee busy and while Mani isn’t a player who kicks opponents as much as Holt he just finds ways to get booked.
Personally I was surprised he hadn’t been subbed by the time he was booked. But that is probably my Dale supporter living in Southend syndrome kicking in a full week ahead. But the lad should be professional enough to avoid a booking. Poor tbh.
A team isn’t one player and there is now an opportunity for someone to step. Here is hoping. Still can’t weight to be back at Spotland next week. |

I'd say Altrincham, Sutton and Braintree, plus Truro ( don't see why they can't be included) where we were under a significant amount of pressure in the second half.
Add to that the Brackley experiment and I understand why some feel we could go up a gear in the second half.
Of course, the very important counter to that view is to point to the league table. We have done really well in winning games when not at our best so far....something we have struggled with recently. | | | |

I watched the Southend game at Wealdstone last week, after we beat the Stones comfortably the week before. They outplayed Southend and the 3-2 score flattered them with a late goal. We shouldn`t need to go into our shell against them.
More of a worry is the usual absence of goals from midfield, 3 goals ,including 2 from McBride, who does seem to know where the net is, continues the dearth of midfield goals from last season. Surely East and Gilmour and Tobi A-R should be able to contribute something to the goals required for a team who has aspirations for promotion.

The game was poor and no disrespect to Truro, but they are a poor side, who we made them look good in the second half by our negative pass it backwards walking football. We looked disjointed and disorganised at times, and Manni's yellow card was disappointing,
I don't know if the performance was due to the Dale flying down, if I correct on the Saturday or McNulty tactical decisions and preferred football style. At least it was a win and points on the board.
With Manni missing, I would start with Hendo up front with Rodney, having said that McBride did okay when he came on. [Post edited 14 Sep 15:31]

Played 8 and won 7.. the biggest stat of all.
Played 8 and scored 16 so an average of 2 a game. If we can score 2 goals and be defensively mean then we have a recipe for success.
3 huge Saturdays coming up - Rat a tat tat... Southend / Carlisle / FGR....
We will know a lot more about our promotion credentials after these 3 x Saturdays.

This is where BJ’s game management coping with opposition tactics will really be needed, given the way we lost in the playoffs to Southend, i think it’s good we are playing them first up of the big guns.

I guess there is a feeling from last season that when we went up against the teams who threatened the play off / promotion places, we mostly bottled it. There was a lack of character when under that sort of pressure and "clout" was unfortunately used as an excuse which wasn't believed. We were weak in those contests and the finger pointed at the manager.
We'll see over the next few games how the character / bottle / game management of what is a far better quality team as a whole holds up to such challenges. I hope our current fantastic start to the season (bar one aberration) proves we have the kahunas to succeed in games to come. Over to you, Jim. |  | | |

Mani and Rodney were well controlled throughout. Tobi and Allarackia produced nothing worthwhile, the defence held out well particularly against the wind in the last half hour.
Where was the passing game, esp in the first half?
The only players passing forward were EEL and Whatmuff. Ryan East ???
When the subs came on-too late- they showed some life.

My thoughts entirely re the way Southend play using Scott-Morris. We all remember the shambolic defending down the left hand side when they last played at Spotland.
To be fair to BJ I think he realised the ongoing weakness down that flank hence the signing of Pritchard.
And in the absence of the latter Kevin Berkoe will be a welcome addition to the squad. | | | |

The 'Big 5' are us, FG, Carlisle, Southend and York imo. The games against those teams are huge but it's the points dropped against everyone else that could cost teams and Brackley aside we're doing well at not dropping points against those teams. | | | |
