I think at one point they worked out that defenders were under priced in the market (or something) so went big on them as they believed they would have a lot more resale value later on.
Seemed to work as they sold a few for fairly decent money (Ben White etc.)
Maybe they've identified keepers in the same vein.
I also read somewhere that they looked at testing out renting out their analytics systems to other teams, and used Ipswich as a test house when they were in League One? And they had to stop doing that when Ipswich made it to the Premier League? | | | |

Sheppard is a 'Discussions Ongoing' player. At the moment then that's 7 keepers in the first team and DS. A bit overstocked in that dept. |
I think Sheppard serves quite a niche role as someone who is exclusively a DS keeper with no real expectation of progressing to the first team. That's quite helpful, providing a bit of experience to the U21s while allowing the other younger keepers to get out on loan and get minutes. |  | | |
