The QPR summer transfer rumours thread on 13:14 - Jun 2 by kensalriser | Note for glossary: First sightings of 'next year will be the toughest ever in the Championship' can be expected in early June. First sightings of 'the standard of the Championship this season is terrible' can be expected in mid September. |
When can we expect the first sightings of "the standard of refereeing in the Championship this season is terrible"?

Anyone heard how Bennie is after his injury in the final?

But if you sell Varane while he's in demand, and make a 4M profit - that the model. Obviously you hold onto Madsen and you hope the green shoots at the end of the season continue into next, that he becomes saleable in 12 months time - then you don't lose out on him financially. There are risks to this model, especially in the initial phases, because the quality of player is lesser/unknown. This risk is reduced as you can afford to spend a little more on better quality players as you go through phase two, three and so on, of the model. Our problem is that we are still on phase one, which, as I said, is the riskiest element of the model. The reason for this is because we have refused to sell our best players at the peak of their value. Chair and Willock are the two most recent examples of this, but there have been numerous others; BOS, Austin (first time around) and so on. This problem is acerbated by us throwing money at players with no re-sale value every so often as we get a sniff of promotion. I don't know (m)any fans who are happy to wallow in the Championship. But it has to be done properly and not dash off script the first time we win three games in a row.
The QPR summer transfer rumours thread on 13:39 - Jun 3 with 5045 views | HAYESBOY | IMO unless the offer is nearer 10 m then we should keep him for at least another year. This is only due to the fact he has signed an extension so no need to panic.

But you are missing the point Hayesboy. You are falling into the trap that we always fall into. How on earth would a player who cost us less than 400 k suddenly be worth 10M after an at best 'ok' season? This time next year he could just as easily be worth 400k again , or injured and unsaleable. When are we going to learn from our past mistakes? If we have actually being offered 5M - sell him NOW

Is Jobe Bellingham "worth" £25Mill? Nope Prices are what the market dictates and what clubs think they can get away with. Slumberland just landed in £225mill of dosh.... clubs now know they have to highball to get their players, conversely, players, clubs and Agents will be looking to scrape the cream off of Slumberlands dish they've just landed. The game is all about money, brinkmanship, contacts, nepotism and keeping the gravy train rolling. I stick by my gins that Varanne will be a £10mill player in six months if he maintains upward trajectory. I also think that if Morgan get's his mojo back start of the campaign he could be looked at as a £5mill player. Let's not drop our drawers at the first bit of eyelash fluttering but accept the fact that the owners have sacked off any Promotion ambitions and are looking at us as a development model medium term with any play off circling a bonus. My fear is we'll sell, cods up all the new buys and have the buckets out in league one. We'll see

They are paying £5m for the player and a £20m premium for the name Bellingham there!

The QPR summer transfer rumours thread on 22:41 - Jun 3 with 4191 views | Gus_iom | The two things we don't know, are what's in Varane's contract over approaches from other clubs, and how keen he is on leaving. I hope he stays, there's a really good player in there, and it's not far from the surface. I wouldn't swap him for Jobe Bellingham.

The QPR summer transfer rumours thread on 16:29 - Jun 5 with 3481 views | derbyhoop | It's all very well announcing new contracts for players in the DS, but it's the First team on which any success or failure will be judged. So far this week, we've announced Akindileni Dyke McCann Halliday Nothing against any of them but it would be better if we had an announcement about the 1st team. Little things like a Head Coach or the players out of contract would be closer to what the fans want to hear. Nobody is going to celebrate if the DS win their league by 10 points but the First Team get relegated. [Post edited 6 Jun 12:06]

I was wondering the other day whether this was a possibility. He's only got a year left at Chelsea, has the same agent has Harvey Vale, and crucially plays in a position where we desperately need a solution.

Nope, I think my point stands. I said nearer 10m and also there is no need to panic. If his trajectory keeps rising, as it has in his first season, why wouldn't he be worth more in a years time?

Those appearances for Sheff might have saved his career. Otherwise he could be yet another 21 year old with only a handful of professional games to his name. These young footballers need to play competitive league games. This is another reason I hate Chelsea with their rack 'em and stack 'em attitude to kids. Surely this hurts development having hundreds of kids in ea year group, when realistically only 1 or 2 will have a career anywhere like the top of the game

Said the self same thing the other day. This type of thing should almost be a footnote, not being treated as the club giving us the winning lottery numbers. There's so much between here and them making it, that we've really got nothing to see here, just yet. Can't help thinking that most players are going to hold off until they know who the manager is. Which is down to Kim Jung/QPR...again!
