The QPR summer transfer rumours thread on 12:20 - May 28 by SW_Ranger | If Christian Nourry was saying that we’d be shooting him down in flames or crying out to burn him at the stake!! |
whos bringing the matches ?thing is every word is the truth yes hes had a stellar sesson at 23 if he was a youth player he would be long gone under the present way of doing things we also dont play the way he was playing at orient , same for celar so chances are nether will work in our first team

Leyton Orient mostly play 4-2-3-1, the exact same system QPR are meant to mostly play. They sometimes deviate from that depending on the match or injuries - as QPR do - but typically Orient play the exact same set-up as QPR, either 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3. (which is possibly why Kelman only touched the ball five times in the first half of the play-off final). Celar and Kelman are very similar, and in the club's 'game model' theory should be competing for the 9 to play between the width of the penalty areas inside and in front of three penetrating, quick, skilful attacking midfielders (eg, Saito/Chair/Dembele, swap in Smyth/Kolli/Sutton as you prefer). I'm not saying I like/dislike the system, but it's the same. Leyton Orient are for that reason the perfect club for QPR to loan first-team adjacent players to: I'm sure QPR were secretly pleased they were not promoted. I'd also be very surprised if Nourry and co did not make overtures to Richie Wellens for that same reason.

Can't say I follow Orient so I don't know which formation they use but this tweet from QPR Analytics saying Kelman wouldn't have suited our style this season stuck in my mind. He's basically saying Orient used a high press which was the opposite of what we were doing

The QPR summer transfer rumours thread on 13:03 - May 28 by kernowhoop | If I were Charlie Kelman, before making any commitment, I would want to know how QPR is to be run in 2025-2026 and by whom. |
As Cifuentes didn’t play him I bet he’s glad there’ll be a new head coach.

I live around the corner from Os and go from time to time. They play a very, very similar style to the one Nourry says he wants the club to play: 4-2-3-1. He's right he wouldn't have suited our system this season - but that's a reason Nourry had it in for Marti. (Worth noting that sometimes Os also play a mid block. Nobody's perfect, Christian) The high press/mid-block thing: I think if we'd have kept Chair, Dembele, Kolli, Celar fit for longer we'd have pressed higher, Field would've joined the four attackers in retrieving the ball up the pitch too, along with Morgan when he was promoted. But because so many players were injured for so long, and because often the best midfield for avoiding relegation involved Varane and Colback, and because Cifuentes is a pragmatic and smart coach who needed to get results often without a striker and with his back to the wall...we defended deeper. I bet they rowed big time about that.

I mean it’s demonstrably not true - he featured 9 times in Cifuentes’ first six weeks in the job, was a bit crap unfortunately with the low point him starting at home to Plymouth in a huge relegation scrap and hitting the post from 3 yards when Stevie Wonder would’ve scored with his legs tied together.

Thought he was only played in the wide role, which isn’t his position

The QPR summer transfer rumours thread on 11:24 - May 28 by wombat | how many seasons has kelman been with us ? hes had a connor washigton season in a league which suits him , yep give him another deal just in case and then when he dosnt score 30 goals why we wasting money on him ? id take the money for him |
Kelman's loan spell has pretty much gone as well as anyone could possibly hope. What sort of message would QPR be sending to young players who might like to play for us - and their agents - if a player who has smashed their loan is immediately sold? That suggests that QPR loaning you out is basically a one way trip to the departure lounge. [Post edited 29 May 14:18]

I know accuracy is not your strong point but tell me how many starts as a striker he got under Cifuentes?

Yeah his comment was ridiculous. I thought he was doing what my kids do and tell me things that they say are true and I think I’m losing my mind! I checked and he started once. I remember that game and he started in the Smyth role. He had 5 further appearances from the bench. 4 of those were after 80 minutes.

Genuine question as I dont know the answer , but I remember Kelman starting up front away at Rotherham . Was that under Warburton? He must have been very young

A rather desperate attempt to change your incorrect statement Ned, but even so, Cifuentes started him in that 6 pointer with Plymouth, where he was crap and LFW subsequently got a several page thread asking why he had been given a new contract before going to Wigan. Whichever way you want to try and dig yourself out, Cifuentes turned to him in 8 games in 6 weeks, decided he wasn’t up to it and moved him on, which is rather different to ‘didn’t play him’ [Post edited 28 May 20:03]

Sorry James but you’re wrong. Cifuentes used him vs Rotherham, Bristol City, Norwich, Stoke, Preston, Hul, Plymouth and Southampton.

Kelman came on as a 90th minute sub in that Rotherham game under Cifuentes: https://www.transfermarkt.com/rotherham-united_queens-park-rangers/index/spielbe And that was to replace another sub (Adomah) who was injured.

Ok, I missed 2. But both of those he came on after 90 minutes. You also said Kelman was a bit crap in those 8 games. 5 of them he came on after 90 minutes! And 2 after 80 minites. And when he started in that 1 game, he was out of position. I didn’t rate Kelman then either but your point was that Marti gave him a chance. That’s nonsense. It’s pretty clear he wasn’t given a chance by Marti. Whether that was right or not at the time, who knows.

To be honest, I only checked details on last season as was pretty certain he hardly played. I had a quick check now and he’s started 4 games for QPR. And 1 of them under Marti was on the wing. Think he was attacking midfield in the 4 nil loss to Watford under Ainsworth. So, be fair to say that we as a club haven’t given him a good crack. Now is the time. He’s gone away and done well. Either sell him or start him in the first 10 games next season as centre forward. Let’s not mess about anymore with him and give him the odd minute off the bench or play him on the wing or midfield.

I know you have some kind of weird connection to Cifuentes mate but your implication that he gave Kelman every chance to prove himself during his brief selections mainly as a very late sub is errant nonsense.
The QPR summer transfer rumours thread on 21:56 - May 28 with 995 views | Loft1979 | Implanting my 2cents. I think we are probably fortunate. I reference Clive's recent write up as evidence. Ala many, many players Kelman has emerged and right now is a player who is asked about. A far cry from 12 months ago. I also believe that (unlike Bonne) he has put it together...and his utilization of Dallas Cowboys resources could be the magic spice in that recipe. Whether he stays or goes, I look forward to seeing how he does next year.

Those figures include 23/24, since when they will have received parachute payments and played a season in front of 25,000 Gates. Sure, they may have to sell some stars, e.g. Hamer, but that will still leave them far wealthier than us.
