The QPR summer transfer rumours thread on 14:14 - Jun 6 by PlanetHonneywood | Said the self same thing the other day. This type of thing should almost be a footnote, not being treated as the club giving us the winning lottery numbers. There's so much between here and them making it, that we've really got nothing to see here, just yet. Can't help thinking that most players are going to hold off until they know who the manager is. Which is down to Kim Jung/QPR...again! |
So your looking at this from your angle, if ( and i wish) I was signing a new contract etc and my club put me in the preverbial front page that would add to my sense of being wanted, importance and motivation. Especially with the endorsement of the CEO. It’s not as if they get an interview like Varane or Chair but i think this is a great thing ( wait for the knocking). Maybe it’s because it was how I led my teams with relative success so am biased

The DS is our future. We’ve been shocking at this for ages and now we seem to be doing something right in that area, it gets criticised. A “footnote” and “nothing to see here”, find that attitude incredible given this is future of our football club.

I agree that there seems to be more emphasis on the DS and, if the recent PL Cup win is an indicator, there is a considerable improvement in quality. All hail CN et al. However, it remains no substitute for improvements to the First team. Especially as we'll be lucky if 1 of the 4 announcement this last week end up as 1st team regulars.

The QPR summer transfer rumours thread on 13:03 - Jun 6 by 89_50 | I was wondering the other day whether this was a possibility. He's only got a year left at Chelsea, has the same agent has Harvey Vale, and crucially plays in a position where we desperately need a solution. |
Apparently loan with view to a permanent. Will replace Dunne. If this is true, then that would a good bit of business.

"..So your looking at this from your angle,.." Odd thing to say. Aren'twe all espousing our views?. No, I wouldn't be putting them on the 'front page' they're kids, done nothing, signed for potential, totally unknown entities, and yes, I think it looks a bit Mickey 'fcking'Mouse!! And having a bloke a few years older than them spouting Nourryspeak adds what? They probably think he sounds a plum like half this board. Do other clubs herald the signing of kids as much? I've no idea. For me, when they've done something more worthy of the QPR 'front page' then yes, print and be damned. In fact, make a hoo-har then might act as more of an incentive to others. Listen, good luck to them. Good luck to the coaches and development programme to deliver up a supply of quality players. It really doesn't need you or others to state the obvious significance of the DS working; the majority of us have been discussing the point for decades.

Fella, we all know the development of talent has been woeful for decades. It doesn't need restating! My point: before we all get excited, then let's at least wait for something tangible. I'm all for following the development of players and praising the set-up when it delivers. Indeed, the DS win was the best £3 spent following the Rangers, but as I replied to another poster, signing kids for the DS shouldn't be 'front page' in my view; there's such a way to go between there and the First XI. I also asked the other bloke: Do other clubs make such a splash signing DS players? Maybe they do. As with the DS Cup win and a few players breaking into the starting XI, when there's something to shout about then, by all means: shout, shout, let it all out!

The QPR summer transfer rumours thread on 18:14 - Jun 6 with 2810 views | francisbowles | The front page of the app is for the latest club news. If there is something to say about the first team, it's gets posted. Most days after the end of the season there is nothing to say. It's a much better site if the front page is constantly updated, hence the news on DS signings and the Women's team. The current situation with a lack of a working manager is far from ideal and is making it far more difficult to sign up new and existing out of contract players. However, the amount of app and website updates is one of the things the club are getting right. It's encouraging more clicks so that has to be a positive.

Simple disagreement I think signing for QPR or 1st professional contract is an achievement

The thing is we have been here before. Wasn't that long ago the Development squad had Eze, Chair, Manning, Smyth, Lumley and Bright in it who were all signed for the development/under 23's and all got into the first team, we were signing players for that team likes of Oteh, Owens and later Armstrong but ultimatley a lot of those we signed didn't turn out to be good enough whilst some of them left for decent money Like everyone I hope it's different this time and some of the kids in that team look exciting but signing a lot of potential in that age group isn't a new thing, it's what you do with that potential that is important and the coaches invovled at that level are the same people who were here before Nourry

I think we are 1) much more active recruiting at the 18-20 year old age level and 2) being a bit more ruthless with youth players within. There just seems to be a change and more focus on this age group. But time will tell I guess

Seasons over. Pre-season hasn’t started. It’s going to be quiet. There’s no other news. How should the club release it more subtly on a website?
The QPR summer transfer rumours thread on 18:59 - Jun 6 with 2468 views | dmm | It appears that DS players making it through to play in senior games - Kolli, Lloyd, Morgan, Bennie, and Sutton - plus training with the senior squad is a significant attraction to young players coming in. Most mention the 'pathway' to the first team.

A series of clues, each more devious than the last, shall lead you to the initials of the first signing. Or will they...?

I would question if we really *are* being ruthless. Murphy obviously got released after a good season but he had already done a preseason with the first team and not even been given a squad number by Cifuentes so I don’t think there was any shock he is leaving. Talla is now 21 and another nowhere near first team level yet not released, Aoraha is 22 now and just spent the second half of the season in and out of the Ebbsfleet side that finished way adrift at the bottom of the Conference so is again not going to make it, but apparently wasn’t released. Petrie another who is 21, never looked anywhere near making it but has been offered a new deal. Of course it’s easy to say online and we still need to be able to put out a DS side, but I’d have been binning off that 3 be honestly probably the same again of the squad who aren’t going to make it at this level.

I just think we were doing that before but not making as big thing of it, completly get why the club are making noise about it as that is the hope people are clinging to and hopefully it will lead to sucsess I'm just a bit cautious about getting carried away with it after seeing how quickly it can go wrong before

I agree. But (you knew this was coming 😂), I’m not sure you can just bin everyone, has to be gradual change. Main reason, you can’t change recruit enough players of that standard. It’s a gradual process.

I won’t get carried away until we start to see results in first team. But I wanted us to recruit players of this profile. I don’t recall it being same as now but let’s see what happens.

Yeah as I say I appreciate you have to still be able to turn out a DS squad, and while results don’t matter so much as the matchtime, shape etc., putting in 18 year olds and getting dicked every week won’t help anyone so keeping a couple of older players around to add some experience really isn’t a big deal. At the risk of being a stuck record once again though, if the club had simply said that they wanted to be more ruthless with youngsters and focus on those who had a chance then I think even we boring bastards would struggle to find anything to talk about. Instead they gave a defined new rule of being around the first team squad at 21 or needing to go, and then didn’t do that at the first opportunity. Of course its completely inconsequential, but just another small unforced error that they walked right into.

‘the DS Cup win and a few players breaking into the starting XI’ are definitely things to shout about compared to our record with youth in the last few decades aren’t they? 1st team signings are obviously on hold until the new head coach is appointed so why not give new youth signings their own news release: what’s the harm and it’s hardly a negative thing.

I don't think the club has made any comment on Aoraha or Talla. I do wonder if they still might be let go or at least farmed out for the season somewhere. Also, I thought discussions were still ongoing with Petrie, and the same with Sheppard.

It implies both Talla and Aoraha signed 2 year deals, or more, last summer.

You wouldn't necessarily bin off 2/3 older DS players. They can be used to make up the team whilst allowing younger players with more potential to go out on loan. It becomes a problem when those older players are either blocking the development of a younger player or are actually expected to step up to the first team. There has been no announcement on Talla or Aoraha yet or if one will even be coming, so not sure what your point is?
