Don’t you think we have enough experience now? Dunne, Cook, Field, Chair. Then you’ve got Frey, Smyth, JCS.
More than experience we need to add some physical strength and pace to the squad, we are far too small and lightweight at times especially the attacking players

Yeah, I still don’t think we have enough experience. If we lose Fox and Colback, who is coming to to replace and prove that balance.
But as Dave said, it’s really physicality we lack. Cook, Morrison, Dunne, Field, Frey…they are your hairy bollocks in this squad. You could argue JCS if he ever gets on the pitch, and Varane if he is in one of those moods…but is it enough for a whole squad for a whole season? I don’t think so. Cold night in Stoke and all that. Preston at home in November. Blackburn away in February.
Some of those will be injured and unavailable at times. We’ve been known as a soft touch in this league for years. It needs addressing.

Actual pace. Imagining our options being Poku, Saito, Dembele, Chair, Madsen, Vale plus Paul Smyth to keep the 'he works hard' brigade happy. Just need to sort some defenders...well and Saito actually joining.

Yeah ok, physical side I agree on. And also some pace. I do think we have some decent foundations so don’t believe massive recruitment is needed.

I disagree.
Frey is at the right level but will only play 30 games. Kelman and Celar are unproved at this level and questionable as the 9 in one up top system. Kolli is not a centre forward. He’s not a 9. He’s an inverted full back. He’s most like Chair, albeit it not as good.
Extremely high risk to go in with that group for the season, in my opinion.
At left back, Larkeche has always only been see as a back up. The Brazilian lad looks decent in the youth team, but what level is that mostly? L2? He could be anything but it’s way too early to be confident. Vale? He’s played one season at left back. Prior to that and all the way through the Chelsea set up, he played midfielder or wide midfield. I don’t think we signed him to play left back, and I doubt he came here to play left back.
In my opinion we do not have a starting, first choice left back. We have CBs of the level and a RB, but not a LB. It is an obvious weakness.

Dunne Cook JCS ???? Varane Field Vale Smyth Chair Frey
You have Dembele to back up Smyth. Morgan in the mix with Vale, and possibly Colback or his replacement. Morrison covering the CB.
Left back is the obvious weakness in a first choice, all fit, XI.
Once again you hit nail directly on head espiceally about our strikers. Some posters say we have 5 and should be ok but like you Huntergoop I am not convinced we have even 3 at championship level and we CANNOT do what we did last year again. We need proven scorers or clinical poachers (Austin fit this mold right time right place most times) who can take advantage of our set up talent. No point in bombarding oppenents with crosses if we cannot get on them or we will find ourselves watching Chair do his 9 moves and shooot or worse Smyth pull it across to his left leg someone will get killed high up in the loft in critical times We look decent so far and if we stay healthy hopefully tough to beat but our massive flaw is getting back even and winning matches late and you need good strikers for that

Very good point. Currently our options at right wing are Smyth and Dembele. Smyth works hard but has no end product. Dembele has end product but doesn’t work hard enough and is probably better playing through the middle
This is an unbelievable signing if we pull this off. And credit to the club. A player who can contribute develop and add potentially have a big sell on value. Plus our team doesn’t have a problem with height. Look at our set piece record that proves it doesn’t have a problem. But it does have a problem with lack of pace and this helps towards fixing that
Ah, the old Nourry line. It’s not so much height and set pieces. It’s physicality. You can see it with your eyes if you know football and watch it. The Championship is an ugly, physical league. You need to be able to hold your own physically. Some games we did that. Some games we didn’t. But the squad wasn’t balanced. Take Cook and Field out and we looked a soft touch.
Poku looks a great signing, mind. Would be a great deal and give us lots of options (although surely means Saito isn’t returning). However, the issue above does need addressing, especially if Colback and Fox leave…and even they were physically on the slide in terms of pace and strength.

By and large, I disagree with your assessment. But, if we can find, and afford, better LBs than Larkeche/Esquerdinha and a better striker than the 5 we have then we should go for it. I don't think we can. If that means using unproven Celar/Kelman as backup to Frey or using Kolli as a lone striker then so be it? I do think Kolli is better as an attacking midfielder than as a lone striker. I suspect that 1 of the 5 I mentioned will be moved on. Whether that is selling Celar or Kelman or sending Lloyd out on loan is another dilemma for a Head Coach, should we ever get one.
