The QPR summer transfer rumours thread on 11:29 - Jun 24 by Hunterhoop
What are you talking about, man?!
I actually praised the change to focusing on EFL experience in that post. Just find it slightly bizarre that all the rumours relate to Posh or Reading players. Was a light hearted comment. No need to get so defensive.
I would like to see is sign a wily old pro or two this summer too, and not just stick to under 24s. There needs to be balance in the squad.
Left back and centre forward surely the priorities at present though, no?
I'm glad we're on the same page!
Maybe there's an opportunity for an older player, but with the resignings/extensions of Cook, Field, Dunne, Chair, Frey you could argue that we are starting to achieve an experienced core by ourselves. I wouldn't be opposed to the extension of Colback either FYI

We have Larkeche, Esquerdinha and, based on previous loan, Vale, to play LB. We've been playing 1 up front and we have 5 strikers. Bigger priority has to be defence. Who covers for Dunne? Hevertton? If Fox gets released, we've got Cook, JCS and Morrison, who probably won't play 80 games between them.

I agree with this also. If the Adamson, Mbengue transfers are pulled off that's some cover for CB, RB.
With Frey, Celar, Kelman, Kolli I'd have another striker pretty low down in my priorities of building this squad.
Wingers, defensive depth, maybe another central midfielder to compete with Varane, Field, Morgan. That's all

Why are we paying PUFC comp when Poke is on a free?
Because of his age Posh are due a compensation fee. Bit of a result for them because they’d have got less if he’d gone to Rangers as the international compensation would have been less.

Last time we hijacked a deal? Good question. In extracts from his as yet unreleased autobiography, The PowerPoint & The Glory, Micky Beale says he was all set to manage Sporting Thamesmead when the Argentinian football association asked him if he’d like to run the national team. After a 2-hour long call with Lionel M. he was all packed and ready to go to Buenos Aires. Then an unbelievable offer came in from QPR. The rest is history. The stuff before it b*llsh*t.
No mention of coming up through the ranks with Young Boyz Plumstead …

I like the sound of this Poku kid. Similar profile to the Dembele signing, decent amount of goals and assists over a full season in L1. Did I read he had hamstring issues along the way ? After releasing Anderson and presumably not resigning Saito, he should be able to slot into a similar role and at the same time provide some return on investment as long as his recent progression continues.

£3.2m? Who is estimating that?
No way Soton would let him go for that, unless there was huge sell ons etc, which would kinda kill the point for us.
Yeah, Soton probably has to pay sell-on to Peterborugh also, so probably need to sell him for something close to 4m just to break even. They would only be interested in such a deal if they don't see him as a future prospect/asset and want to get rid of him, which would be mad.
So, no way handsome Ron is going anywhere shortly unless a significant amount is offered.

Did they not buy Edwards for £5m anyway?
Also, his wages at Saints will be mega, more than we can afford, even if some Eze sealed netted us £5m to spend on him (which I would).
Zero chance of him coming here or I shall eat my words :P

Their fans are blaming his agent. We're absolutely not spending more money than either of them teams can spend
He's also absolutely not a 10, definitely a winger as below. And 5'10 I wouldn't say is small for the position?
As mentioned I few posts ago, I think it's understated how weak we are in the winger positions. The only natural wingers we have are Smyth and Sutton.
I'm still not sure we'll be able to get Poku but would be amazing if we could
Very good point. Currently our options at right wing are Smyth and Dembele. Smyth works hard but has no end product. Dembele has end product but doesn’t work hard enough and is probably better playing through the middle
This is an unbelievable signing if we pull this off. And credit to the club. A player who can contribute develop and add potentially have a big sell on value. Plus our team doesn’t have a problem with height. Look at our set piece record that proves it doesn’t have a problem. But it does have a problem with lack of pace and this helps towards fixing that

Funny title of a video of him supposedly going to Grangers
Pros: Has pace with the ball Can go past a man on either side Cross with the left foot is quite good but not amazing
Cons: Can only cross with his left foot Shooting is wayward Shows the ball to the defenders too near them, in some clips you can see him getting caught with that and also when under pressure so, top Champ tacklers like Field will have him, if he continues to play the ball too close to them.
Looks okay but nothing amazing.
What he does give us though is options. Now Dembele can play in the middle as an AMC No 10 which is his better position and this could free up space for Poku in a 1:1 situation on the right. And we have Smyth who can play as a sub on the right for cover but also as we know on the left for Chair in case he's out. It also means Madsen will now be under more pressure to deliver or he won't play at all if Demeble stays fit and does the business in the middle as he can do.

A really good signing on paper if they pull this one off although quite similar to Dembele so not sure where he will fit in now but from what I've seen of him he'll improve us on the right.
Certainly looks a lot more promising for next season than it did a month ago

I think a lot of the work done this Summer looks promising. Can't argue with the departures of Paal and Andersen. We've extended contracts for Frey, Walsh, Cooper, Cook and Dunne. The latter being both unexpected and important. The recruits to the DS look decent, as well. There's still work to be done to the playing squad. IMO, a backup for Dunne and another CB, assuming Fox leaves. Mbengue sounds ideal.
The 2 downsides are the delay in replacing Cifuentes, ignoring the need to do so; and the poor communications with the fans.
I'm sure there will be surprises between now and August 9th, but so far, I feel optimistic.

I disagree.
Frey is at the right level but will only play 30 games. Kelman and Celar are unproved at this level and questionable as the 9 in one up top system. Kolli is not a centre forward. He’s not a 9. He’s an inverted full back. He’s most like Chair, albeit it not as good.
Extremely high risk to go in with that group for the season, in my opinion.
At left back, Larkeche has always only been see as a back up. The Brazilian lad looks decent in the youth team, but what level is that mostly? L2? He could be anything but it’s way too early to be confident. Vale? He’s played one season at left back. Prior to that and all the way through the Chelsea set up, he played midfielder or wide midfield. I don’t think we signed him to play left back, and I doubt he came here to play left back.
In my opinion we do not have a starting, first choice left back. We have CBs of the level and a RB, but not a LB. It is an obvious weakness.
Nardi
Dunne Cook JCS ???? Varane Field Vale Smyth Chair Frey
You have Dembele to back up Smyth. Morgan in the mix with Vale, and possibly Colback or his replacement. Morrison covering the CB.
Left back is the obvious weakness in a first choice, all fit, XI.

A starting left back is definitely the biggest priority.
On the strikers, Kelman played in lone striker role last season. He’s unproven but we either have to sell him or give him say 10 games as the main striker and see how he does. No point keeping him on the bench.

Another vertically challenged player.....
He’s about the same height as Les Ferdinand (1.79m to Les’s 1.80m). That’s good enough for me.
Is he quick enough is the biggest thing i think. We have a few players such as Chair, Dembele and Kolli who are mobile enough but lack the speed to get ahead and keep ahead of defences. Only Smyth has any real pace up there.
