My concern with the Thorup appointment would not necessarily be his ability or performance at Norwich - my problem would be that we are supposedly now working to a football system, which would suggest that in the event of a manager moving on - whether that be from being head hunted or sacked - shouldn't the hierarchy have already identified the successors months ago? If we are to believe that Marti 's appointment was part of this plan, then surely his successor has been on a shortlist that we would now pursue, rather than us scurrying around which ever manager has recently lost his job? The situation at present is wrong on so many levels...

So if you look at a job advert, ring them up and ask them what the salary is, does that mean you've been interviewed for the job?
It clearly shows you are intent on/willing to consider leaving your current employment which would be enough to make a potential new employer question wether you’d need to pay compo to the current employer.
Especially if you arranged to have it leaked to a National paper and not the Hounslow Herald thereby broadcasting to as wide an audience as possible

Why do you think he wouldn't get a job this summer?
Because I don’t think Norwich, Hull or West Brom will hire him and he wants to stay in the lucrative English football merry go round. He could take a new job tomorrow but it wouldn’t be in England.

Sorry Dave, you are wrong on this one.

DM: The suggestion that he's spoken or his representatives are in talks of another club would definitely come from QPR and would be some kind of retaliation if you like in the game that's now unfolding.

I mean the idea that his agent was sneaking around behind the clubs back is a bit naive, not least because he shares an agency with several of the clubs players and backroom staff and the chairman has been in the game a long time and has links everywhere in what’s a small world.
It would also be hypocritical to criticise his agent for checking in with other clubs when QPR will have checked in with others managers’ agents and others clubs’ players’ agents throughout the season.

Just checking the latest odds, and Thorup has gone from odds on earlier today back to evens.
Some bloke called Stephen Robinson in at 4/1. No idea who he is tbh
He's the current St. Mirren manager. Well thought of up there and rumoured to be in the frame for a number of Championship jobs (as they all are at this time of the year, of course).

Surely the club would have a number of managers/head coaches on their shortlist at all times which would be constantly under review. At the point the club actually need to employ someone some of those on their shortlist may be out of work: perhaps Thorup falls into this category?

We must be listening to 2 different things
He's talking about how it is percived that it's come from QPR, he then follows that up by saying QPR do not gain from that coming out as it could stop us getting compensation
Dave doesn't actually say who leaked the story he just says who gains from the story being out there which in his view was Marti. He even talks about there being a way back for him if he doesn't get offered a job
Should say this came out before he was put on Gardening leave

I’ve literally pulled the transcript Dave.
Do you not think that the club leaked Marti’s interest in WBA? Why would he do it?

An employer is not under any contract whereas an employee is.
Not entirely true. A contract of employment is a contract between two parties: the employer and employee. Clauses in there put obligations on both parties. An employer is also bound by employment law, which is all designed to protect the employee. To terminate an employee’s employment in a way that contravenes employment law requires a settlement agreement, which means paying more than the notice. Speaking (just speaking) to other employers is not, to my knowledge, a breach of any employment contract, because it would be against employment law to prevent it, I believe.

I've no idea if they leaked it or not to be honest
Dave explains it in the link you put up mate, he never says in that podcast what actually happens he just offers an explination as to why leaking it was not in QPR's interests, doesn't mean they didn't do it of course

It was leaked the day after a pres sconference which marti made a few comments which didn’t show the club in a good light I’d say, the comments about changes needing to be made , our absent fitness person , can’t imagine nourry and the rest of the gang of three were to happy about those comments being made public . And less than 24 hours later sky news couldn’t stop repeating that contact had been allegedly made with West Brom . Can’t imagine marti leaking the news somehow.
The clubs fecked up by sticking him on gardening leave , no compo and best they can hope for is to some sort of part on ur contracts been paid up to leave .
Judging by a lot of reactions to our new victim in charge mine included he’s. A dea d man walking already .
And to those who say about agents being spoken to while managers are employed ,we have done it twice with marti first time we was told the compo was to much 1 million next time we got hi for half that . It’s a regular football thing players and managers. Seeing what is around , that’s how agents get paid .

An employer is not under any contract whereas an employee is.
It’s not really true though is it. An employer has the expectation to undertake and terminate (if necessary) an employment in a legal and good faith manner, hence the laws that protect employees from employers using redundancy as a tool for swapping them out for someone they fancy a bit more - not that this isn’t still used of course.
Ultimately as said, the idea that Cifuentes had broken any sort of rule, let alone any unspoken rule by his agent checking in with potential other employers is farcical, not least because as stated, every player and manager in the game is regularly in touch with potential new employers via their agents but also because the executives of the club were in touch with Cifuentes’ agent whilst still employing Gareth Ainsworth with an eye to making a change.
He is on gardening leave and being paid now to enjoy a nice family vacation is for one reason only which is that they can’t sack him and are hoping someone will come in and offer him an attractive enough job that he will agree to go without a payoff.

Well, he seems quite leaky anyway, if you believe what someone has been posting on this forum, and I do. I would go as far as to say that alone made his position pretty untenable. It may well have been a play against Nourry, we may well be in a better position if that play had worked, but....
If the club put him on gardening leave without being certain he was in breach of contract, they've messed up 2 ways, 1. They are unlikely to get compensation from any other employer 2. They may have to pay for 2 Head Coaches simultaneously, or pay off Marti.
