Just announced on the Whatsapp. Personally I don't care if this was done ages ago and Nourry is gaming it for maximum PR value - I'm just delighted he's staying

That isnt a bad mid-table core we could have for a couple of years. Although JCS injuries are the main obvious concern.
I love Frey but dont think he has the volume of games in his legs required for a true number 1 striker. Kellman has the obvious unknown about ability and contract so may not be here.
Not sold on Dembele yet and Smyth is a backup if we want to be above the relegation fight. Chair needs a strong comeback too.
Superb news for me, it's making the decision to renew my season ticket a lot easier, I know the inevitable was going to happen anyway but at least I do it with some enthusiasm.

Glad we don't have to add a Dunne-shaped heading, kicking, pirouetting, and general thunderblasting hole to this summer's furtive transfer business. Good to see.

You get great, solid and dependable players in the Championship
Then you get players with that and bags of character, club commitment and leadership and those types are like hens teeth. When you get 'em you need to cherish them.
James of the Dunne Dynasty.... I salute you Sir.
Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Am about the only one on here that always felt he was staying.
I couldn't see where he could go, other than sideways.
I am pleased obviously as think he is a tremendous asset to our club and we get him 110%, which other clubs might not.
Fantastic that he stays here though, but blatant dripfeeding of news at opportune moments, even if its brilliant news such as this, I find so condescending and patronising.
And the lack of detail in these announcements ie contract lengths etc is also galling. We, at least, wish to know the reasoning behind it, other than it's strategic which it clearly is not..

But the news itself, Brilliant!!

Sideways for more money is what a lot of our players have done in the recent past.I’m delighted that JD has decided to buck that trend.

Nice to have some good news and hear some happy fans posting positively.
However, I’m with ‘dmm’ really disappointed in the instant coffee. Poor choice Jimmy. All that new money and you’re drinking fùcking instant coffee!!! Where’s your standards lad?? Geez!

Now, I am going to admit, I often go on walks after games and pretend I'm being interviewed by press or recording a podcast, or some such (Iknow, I know), and have stated in said fictitious 'media engagements' that I am not aligned with the furore over big Jame's new contract, as I believe there is "better out there", but fcccccking cmon..... I am so pleased

He talks so well: really gets the club and the fans. Doubt we’ll make a more important player signing this summer.
Yeh it's vital not only because he's a good right back, leading the division in all sorts of stats, and we lack height etc. But also because of that connection, character, leadership. We're losing a lot of that as people like Colback and Cook age out of the squad, you can't just bleed it all out for analystics signings under 24.
What was interesting last summer about Sunderland, which feels very much like the model we're looking at especially with the new manager appointment, is having gone exclusively for under 24s and almost exclusively Europeans they then had a season where the team collapsed, and last summer they made a few Alan Browne type signings who, even if they didn't play that much, were vital to the group dynamic.
We wouldn't be able to find a person like Jimmy Dunne on our budget, never mind whether people rate him as a player.
