I’m concerned that I have just watched Sints and Tyler Morris trudge all the way across the pitch and off towards the main building only for Tyler to have to walk all the way back again when he realises he has left the camera on!
Genuinely painful to watch the last 15 minutes of lose possession - shot - goal kick - piss ball - lose possession - repeat

Without a decent centre forward it will be nigh on impossible to build any decent attacking play from the back. Every time the ball went forward it inevitably came back in the form if another Cardiff attack.
Do that in the championship matches and QPR will be falling two goals down ..... .... so nothing new from last season.!!

At least this game wasn’t between 2 teams lol n the same strip and the pitch looked perfect, nice to see where the cash I chipped in to that bond went.
Some positives there.

Definitely best for one's mental health to not take that game too seriously. It was just a behind doors kickabout.
But...passing out from the back looked EXACTLY like it has done for the last 2 years (no observable new patterns or movement from Marti's time, desperate to go backwards, very easily pressed), defensive work rate and intensity way behind Cardiff's leading to them looking extremely comfortable on the ball, defensively outfoxed by the most basic of movement and one-two's by them.
Plenty of work to be done. Onwards.

Stephan's systems still need time to bed in, but there's not a lot of time left. At least today squad players and youngsters got some game time.
I'm hoping the QPR that beat Toulouse turn up on Saturday.
His systems didn't look much different from Cifuentes' or many other coaches who seem to think that every attack has to start from the goalkeeper and 5 or 6 passes inside their own penalty area.

I do fear for people's mental health when the season starts if we're all losing our shit over pre-season friendlies with line-ups that are not going to closely resemble competitive game starting line-ups.
Didn't see it. Sounds like there was a lack of effort.
Am debating whether to go on Saturday but with zero strikers in the squad, what's the point in attending. You cant really learn anything from these run outs ie you cant test out your systems.

wouldn't say lack of effort, just not great without the ball, similar to a lot of games last season and a danger to ourselves when trying to play out from a goal kick

Did not see the game, but its fascinating that every pre-season and 1st month of the season Sam Field absolutely stinks the place out with his performances but come late September/ October he's the first name on the team sheet.

The situation with strikers and fullbacks at this club for the last decade or so has been nothing short of an absolute joke.
Is what it is I suppose.
Lot's of reading between the lines though and clearly certain players will be off. I'll be really sad to see both Varane and Kolli leave if the 2+2=4 comes to be true.
Back to this game... 'suppose if you are going to look at players in a mad set up then a behind closed doors friendly is the time to do it.

Glad I didn't watch it. Saturday's game should give us a better picture of what to expect v PNE. Just seen the weather forecast for the PNE game - day-long sun and 30 degrees or more and I sit in SA Road stand with no shade. Thank you Lord.

I guess I may as well do the manager's post-match interview for him and get my fabled disappointment in early. To go out on a crazy limb, I think it just might go something like this.
Tyler: So, Julien, how do you sum that up? Julien: I mean, evidemment, obviosleee, eet's not ze result we wanted. And zat's disaapointing for all of uz! Tyler: You mention the result. So it's fair to say that affects everyone's mood even before the season's started? Julien: I mean, I'm sorry for ze expression, but I don't care about ze reesult in pre-season. It's za process. Za process. As Morcheeba put it back in ze ninetees, 'it's all part of za process . . .' [turns on a geriatric Walkman] Tyler: Sank you - I mean, thank you, that make things a lot clearer. To start with, we seemed to have difficulty playing the ball out from the back. Julien: I mean, oui, sometimes we make some wrong choices. Short balls. Not long balls. Or long balls. Not short. And we have lots of young, young players. Tres, tres young. Some bebes who shit zer nappies. Tyler: Also, we seem to lack creativity in midfield. Where was our playmaking? Julien: Ahh, Monsieur Chair was in the nautee chair. He threw a rock at me getting on ze autobus and gave me a massive mal a la tete. Without 'im, zat is zat. Personne. C'est cela. As Monsieur Sartre once said, ze 'ell is ozer people. Surtout when you don't have any ozer people. Tyler: And we don't have a striker . . . Julien: Helas, zat problem is, how do you say, siecles old. From before when I wuz 'ere. Before any of us wuz 'ere. Before la vie was 'ere. Tyler: So, apart from the fact we can't pass the ball out from the back, keep it in midfield, create anything, and can't score goals, it's all good? Julien: Exactement. It's za process. Not za ree-sult. Not za performance. Not ziz 'looking after ze ballon'. Ze voyage, not za destination. Tyler: So there you have, it, it's going to be a super dupa hoopsa season. I can't wait. And here's Andy Sinton. Andy, what do you make of it all? Andy S: [makes long deflated noise like he's pushing out a massive jobby] Tyler: Come on you Rs etc. Muffled voices: Quelle horreur, Sacre Bleu etc. etc.
Read nothing into the game especially how shocking we were in the opening 15.
HOWEVER, not being able to name a single fit striker two weeks before the season sums the fragility of this squad up. It is pathetic as it was pathetic to think the four we had last season were anywhere near "adequate".
Am I overreacting? Possibly, But we are playing almost all of the Dev Squad and they do not have a 9 who is match ready. Five strikers in the entire club, one wants to leave, two who are never fit or available, one who has to go on loan and one who can generously be called mediocre and is scared of his own shadow.
The full backs are alarming, but at least we have bodies there although Larkeche looks a downgrade on Paal, which I did not think was possible...
As ever 4 signings and 6 players to return from injuries short of a passable team...
