Getting in very early on this one. I only started one match thread last season and we won 4-0 so here’s hoping my luck continues especially as it’s such a huge fixture. Not just because it’s the first game of the season or because it’s the first game for JS, not just because the pressure is on us to beat a team, at home, that many have tipped to be relegated but because this team needs to win for its fragile confidence. To get its supporters to forget about gardening leave and divided opinions. My anxiety levels are way higher than normal for this game and with the injuries we’ve accumulated so early in the season I don’t think they’re going to drop, especially if Dunne and Cook are unavailable.

You wait for months for the season to start and this is what you get; a knot in the pit of your stomach.

I’m going for a rollercoaster 3-2 win. Chair with the first.

C’mon you soooopahhooooopsah.

Mixed feelings about that. Thought we were very decent in the first half, lots of positives across the team but particularly from Mbengue, Poku and Dembele. Second half we just kind of withered, heads dropped after giving away a cheap goal, allowed Preston to bully us, turned into your typical lower-midtable Championship slop. Has to count as two points dropped given our position at half-time, and how dreadful Preston were.

Lots to work on, but also some very promising signs. If we can consistently play to the level we were at first half, we’ll be alright.

2 teenagers at full back, centre backs were 22 and 23. Of course we still had that defensive moment of madness and I think we'll need 'club dad' Steve Cook quite a bit this season as well as Jimmy's experience. But I think that is positive. Mbengue is a proper player isn't he?

Positives:

- Didn’t think we were bullied as widely expected
- Debutants all looked assured. Esquerdinha especially looked like he’d played this league all his life.
- Looks like we have some attacking intent

Negatives

- Disconnected at times
- Lots of fitness issues
- A few individual mistakes. Walsh needs to get these wobbles out of his game.

Not sure we really learnt a lot from that.

Need a LB
Need a CM
Need a ST
Nothing new really.

2 things, though:
We didn't look fit
And why were we letting the ball bounce so much from their aimless punts forward?

Poll: How is Nourry cooking so far ? 🤣

Agree about ‘Club Dad’ but don’t think Nourry does.

He’s a professional, but personally I’d be less inclined if they took the captaincy away.

Agree with every word on Burrell

Looks like a real weapon.

It's funny how people see the game.

I thought Burrell and Celar both looked good, but because Burrell runs around a lot more compared to Celar, to some, it simply means Celar is crap. It reminds me of my father in law, who when watching games on the TV, simply shouts 'leg it" every time someone gets the ball....

Celar held the ball up well first half, and brought Dembele, Chair and Poku into the game well. That side of his game goes unnoticed.

Either way, less negativity and more positivity required. This is a young team and we're finally working towards a sustainable football model.

Patience is needed.

If you play with what may as well be no striker for an hour you're not going to score, which we didn't.

But some decent performances considering how threadbare the starting line up looked and something to build on. We were lucky to be up against such poor opposition though.

Really liked the look of Mbengue today. Very solid and I think we might get a goal or two off his long throw.

He gets caught out by movement which is a concern.

The goal conceded was dreadful

I didn’t think that the goal was Mbengue’s fault, as he was up for the corner. It was down to whoever was meant to be staying back to watch the Preston forward.

Feels like a long season ahead. Decent enough in the first half but the equaliser was one of the worst goals I have seen us concede (and there are plenty of contenders). Only one team was going to win it, which is worrying considering this was Preston at home. Burrell actually chased down the ball when he came on so I hope he starts next week.

A draw at home to Preston is two points dropped, so a poor result.

Some positive signs, though:

1) I thought we looked well drilled in the first half - shape good, lots of movement for the man in possession, nice tempo, attacking intent.
2) Good performances in particular from Morrison, Mbengue, Poku and Chair.

Main negative:

1) Thought we looked tired in the second half, and we've added Poku and Dembelé to the injury list. Shambolic stuff.

Totally this. Was Celar "great"? No. He was good. A decent 6/10. But he wasnt a ghost and wasnt as awful as some people make out. Our forward play got worse after he went off.

To me, the worry was Walsh. Dodgy kicking, lucky to get away with a fumble.

Guys, not one mention of our injury list! A team cobbled together did well in the first half especially. Dunne, Varanne were really missed , let's judge things when the full squad are back!

Madson was very good today ..

Must have been the first half...it wasn't the second half I watched. Then again, there were others just as bad. For what we paid for him...I'm going to take a lot of convincing he is worth a starting place in the side.

Knob End Match Fred on 18:14 - Aug 9 with 1479 viewsdead_ott

In fairness, it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. Mbengue was really good I thought. Dunno what that goal kick routine is all about, seems to just put us under pressure. We should've have won that one, but at least we didn't lose

Big plus that they have Poretti on the bars rather than just Calsberg. But the bars were so under staffed and the staff were clueless. Surely for the 1st game of the season you get as many bar staff as possible!!

Good God

What a fricking miserable bunch qpr fans on here truly are.

From nearly all on here you would think we are doomed for relegation.

Makes me wonder as to keep posting on here.

Today for me, was a decent start..

We were undone by a sucker punch but its hardly signs we are heading for the starts of the past couple of seasons.

Pace and muscle has been added which was good to see.

And couple of key players out, possibly could have tipped the balance in our favour.

And its the first game.

What a load of miserable buggers, we have on here. Likely am guessing people that watch from their armchairs

Personally i think there was some promise and also was key to at least secure the draw....

Several first teamers out and several performances of note from new players.

If we play like we did in the first half this will be a good season, if we play like we did in the second it will be long and painful. Thought everyone did well today, much brighter than the pre-season stuff. Field can’t play that far forward, his control and touch let him down too often, he struggled more than most today.

Ref spoilt the afternoon, had no feel for the match. Way too many mistakes and inconsistency to be allowed anywhere near a whistle. Lindsay should have been a red and as for pulling back the quick throw near the end, that looked like he was playing as an extra defender. Pr1ck as someone else has said.

What happened there? Chair went to take it, then the lino said something to him, he walked off looking annoyed and Dembele took it.

Agree that with a full compliment to pick from, we should improve. But that's the "elephant in the room" - getting players fit and staying fit seems beyond us. Still too many fragile sick notes in the he medical room. We've played one game...and the list has increased🤔
