Getting in very early on this one. I only started one match thread last season and we won 4-0 so here’s hoping my luck continues especially as it’s such a huge fixture. Not just because it’s the first game of the season or because it’s the first game for JS, not just because the pressure is on us to beat a team, at home, that many have tipped to be relegated but because this team needs to win for its fragile confidence. To get its supporters to forget about gardening leave and divided opinions. My anxiety levels are way higher than normal for this game and with the injuries we’ve accumulated so early in the season I don’t think they’re going to drop, especially if Dunne and Cook are unavailable.
You wait for months for the season to start and this is what you get; a knot in the pit of your stomach.
I’m going for a rollercoaster 3-2 win. Chair with the first.

Celar has not been nearly as bad as some of you are suggesting. Some good bits of hold up play, the goal literally comes from this. |
Yes he held up two passes, that is part of the job. The rest of his job is to be an attacking threat in the box. How many crosses went in with Celar no where to be found? Has he gotten his foot or head on anything in the attacking 3rd? Even the commentators were saying someone needs to be there. It is like we don't have a 9 out there, it is all Chair/Dembele/Poku. What's Esquerdinha like? |
He was my standout player from the PL Cup final. I did say some weeks ago I wouldn't be surprised to see him start at LB. He's being targeted by Preston with long, diagonal balls but so far has held his own against a very lively Small. He also had decent snapshot from range where he showed good technique to cut across the ball. If memory serves he can cross so I'd like to see him get forward a little more and overlap. |  | | |

Much much better than I expected / feared. We look sharp on the ball, loads of attacking movement, bit lucky with the OG but it was no more than we deserved. Morgan and Esquerdinha looking tidy despite their lack of experience, particularly Esquerdinha’s combinations down the left with Dembele. I agree Celar hasn’t been great but he at least looks engaged and hungry, lots of pretty thankless running the channels. | | | |

I'm with everyone who thinks Celar has had a good game. He's held the ball up well, battled, and been in and around the box. The right ball and he might put it away, looks hungry.
I don't think we can ask much more from a number 9 than that. |

Madsen is not a player (more ofnthe same sh1t he offered up last season). Get rid asap.
Walsh looks very suspect indeed, but we'll have to wait and see how that goes over the next few months if Nardi is leaving I guess
